Bolero has taken over because Tata has stopped producing cars like Sumo. Now they want to produce Curvy, Bloated Hatchbacks and call them SUVs because its in trend.
I visited Sikkim last month, and this car is a very popular taxi car there. The taxi guys fit 10 passengers in the car in 2+4+4 configuration, all super cramped and uncomfortable and drive like complete madlad.
Here in jk they make a person sit with them on driving seat as well So its basically 4+4+4 people including driver. Kinda scary though, reason for lot of accidents.

This SUV is an absolute workhorse. If you visit Darjeeling hills, you will see 90% of SUVs are SUMO GOLD ruling the himalayas even after discontinuation.

Good to see you review this legend vehicle, i used to own sumo gold, after it has done 2.2 lakhs km i sold it but now i regret it, it was a hardcore adventure vehicle for me, with that famous tata 3.0 dicor bs4 engine (refined in its time), it has raw pulling power with massive 300mm diameter clutch, it handles every jungle trail, mountain obstacles i have gone through, it has zero turbo lag, at just 1000rpm, full 250nm torque is unleashed. I'd say, Sumo Gold cr4 was the best sumo ever, not even Grande comes close to this, Victa however is not as impressive because of that smaller Peugeot sourced engine. If you can get your hands on sumo gold cr4, it would be interesting to see a review, because it is a completely different animal altogether.

In Taxi market Tavera is the rival not Bolero. Tavera is cheaper to maintain, fuel efficient & rides better when compared to Sumo. Sumo is OHC with rubber timing belt & Tavera is OHV. So some Taxi owners in my area exchanged their Sumo for Tavera. Faisal bro review a Tavera.
These diesel engines dont like to be revved harder.. Most of them offer good low end torque and they do move like locomotive.. Revved hard = fu*ked up something ( timing belt, turbo , valves) 🤣
We have Sumo victa 2008 model. This car is love. We have 2008 model still running awesome. Traveled across many states in India. Still going great 9 people sit comfortably best view.
Same here dude. We have a 2006 sumo victa and that car is legendary. No engine problems till now and works perfectly fine. The engine gives the real feel of a SUV with the grunt of it. A perfect car.
Old Tata cars was better in almost every regard than its rivals at their time - Price, value for money, feature loaded, decent engines, strong built. The mistake was that Tata never updated their cars time to time. They launched new cars and never updated the old ones

Hey Faisal, this Tata Sumo is turbocharged as the intake manifold is linked to the intercooler via the red rubber/silicon joint.
There's a helmet right there - even with highest safest car manufacturer tata motors promoting safety.
