It is so fun to watch peoples facial expressions as there brain tries to process it all . Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend and KING of the hammer ons . I was lucky enough to catch Van Halen twice live in the 80,s and they were SO good ! Just awesome to see younger generations discover this man and his many talents .. RIP Eddie you will be missed Sir ! Great reaction !
I never get tired of watching people react to this video. Your reaction was fabulous. When Van Halen's debut album came out, I was a sophomore in high school. It blew us all away.
And rest assured, Eddie Van Halen knew every one of the millions of sounds his guitar could make. His pick was the paint brush, his Frankenstrat the canvas, and the music his own personal Sistine Chapel.
Eddie was one of the best rhythm players too, his pocket was incredible. And he was a killer songwriter. Over all, his musicality was next level. (Not all guitar heroes got past being mere finger athletes and into the actual art of music. That’s where Eddie stands head and shoulders above all the rest).
And just think: This was midway through the show. He's still got another half of a concert to play...and he did this in pretty much every show the band played live, for over 15 years.
This entire live concert (Live Without a Net) is out of bounds from start to finish. I highly recommend it. So much energy and talent on display from all the guys it's astounding.
When I first heard Eruption on the radio in 1978, I stopped what I was doing and went directly to Sounds of Upper Darby and bought the record. Amazing never heard anything like it back then.
His father was a big band musician from Holland. After WWI they came to America on a ship with a piano. He couldn't speak English. You can tell his style of playing was based around piano and horns and all the old instruments. A truly great gift of playing
Edward(Eddie) Van Halen on guitar. Eddie was soo on fire that even Michael Jacksons camp asked if he would play the solo on Michaels hit song ' Beat it ' and he did it :) How about reacting to something from their debut Cd?? Listen to Eddies studio sound on -Ain't talking bout love or Jamies crying ?? The debut Cd dropped jaws all over the World. I just subscribed and Eddie was blowing Smoke rings :)
Seen this video maybe 30 times… still as awesome as the first and the smoke rings are bad ass. Almost every reaction is the same..BLOWN AWAY !!! Your video is great hope you ck put more from VanHalen
Ed admitted he was drunk off his ass for this solo. That said he was also a classically trained pianist. He played his guitar similar to how he played the piano. Ironically he admits he couldn’t read sheet music. To this day he is the most influential guitarist of the 70s and 80s. Ed was the thee guitar god of our generation.
Eddie is the greatest guitarist that there has ever been. You need to listen to their earlier songs like "Mean Streets " & "Running with the devil " and their later songs like "Poundcake " and any of their songs from their 5150 album and OU812. Absolutely incredible 😱😱😱!!!!!!!
The 1st thing he played is called 3-16 and he wrote it for and played it to his unborn son Wolfgang. The rest of this solo is mostly pieces of songs that weren't played during the concert.
Eddie Van Halen is one of the original members of the rock band Van Halen that thare his name with along with his brother Alex who plays the drums in the band. You need to understand that Eddie was self taught and never took a single guitar lesson in his life. He and his brother were taught to play the piano when they were children but Eddie never learned to read music and just played by ear and copied what he saw the other people playing when he was playing in piano competition's as a young boy. He took his piano playing to the way that he played the guitar and made a completely new type of music and they had to create a new way of writing music to describe how and what he did when he was playing the guitar. And because of that he is considered by most people to be the greatest guitarist that has ever lived. When he died the whole world cried because they had lost the last of the great musical geniuses. We miss you KING EDWARD!!!!!
I got to see them in concert June 17th 1984. My girlfriend and I was in the very front and Eddie sat right in front of us and did his guitar solo. It was amazing
The "holder" for the cigarette is just tucking it in between the strings because between the nut and the tuning pegs up there in that headstock area on some guitars they are very close and sometimes they are just at the right height to wedge your cigarette butt in there and it's a perfect holder. But I think was hilarious however is that, it had been a long time since he had taken a drag, any finishes out a little flourish with motions that take his hand all the way down to the end of the fretboard at the nut leaving it perfectly positioned to immediately extend his index finger in his thumb and fuck that cigarette out of their hit it real quick and then delicately but quickly and precisely put it right back there. It just shows how comfortable he was in his element and he was a hero to an awful many Rock Fans.
I got to see Van Halen 4 times in concert (Twice at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, MS and twice at the UNO Lakefront arena in New Orleans, LA). For their "5150" album tour, I was standing stageside front row and center stage with Eddie playing this guitar solo right in front of me. And let me just say this, to call him a master is an insult. This dude is a GOD!!! He could do things on guitar that has never been duplicated before or after, and inspired other guitarists to follow his lead. RIP to Mr. Eddie Van Halen.
If you do more Van Halen reactions, start with the first record Van Halen I from 1978. In 1978 Disco was king, it was great then to see a kick ass rock band put Disco to bed.
Only a handful of guitarists ever lived that could solo like Eddie! Stevie ray Vaughn, Dimebag Daryl, Dave Mustaine, Kirk Hammet, Kerry King, and although his style is crazy probably have to add Tom Morello. Sure others will know more, that’s all I could think of atm?
Hi Ashley. Its wonderful to see your reaction to seeing Eddie do his thing as it reminds me of how it charged me up the first time I heard it. I remember way back when it first started playing on the radio as my jaw dropped just like everybody's did thinking "What in the F**K is that?"' during the lowest points of my life I could put Van Halen's music on and feel GOOD! That guitar TALKED to me! He was a blessing and I cried like a baby when he passed. I'll continue to watch your posts. keep it up! Love Johnny B
Love your soulful and honest reaction Ashley. Find VH’s album “Fair Warning,” and crank it on your car. The first 6 albums are 100% inspired by 1960s Rock, R&B, 1970s funk and disco all mashed together in the way only Van Halen could do…
Eddie van halen the world's best guitar player, he invented and created his own sound and technical style. Sounds like no one else, what a genius from another planet, I love Eric Clapton, Jeff beck, Stevie Ray, hendrix, ect, they kind of all sound the same, Eddie's one of a kind!!
Imagining someone just learning to play guitar and struggling with this note or that note or trying to get your fingers to notes fast enough and then seeing this. It is other worldly.
She is only, hearing a "small sampling ". of what the man could do.... She was correct, ....its an eruption of sound period. She is amazing herself. ❤❤
Eddie is einstine of guitar playing and he broke all the rules and open the door on giutareststhe way they play today r I p in peace sir king Edward vanhalen❤
Great reactions! Here are the best versions of some incredible songs to react to: Queen Somebody to Love Live, Who Wants to Live Forever Live; Elvis Pressley Suspicious Minds Live, Love Me Tender Live, How Great Thou Art Live: Jimi Hendrix Purple Haze Live in Atlanta and Hey Joe at Monterey Pop Festival. Joe Cocker You Are So Beautiful Live, Dire Straits Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live-much better version.) You deserve the best recommendations. Thank you.
The first part is a different song called 3:16 his sons’s birthday. He use to lay an acoustic guitar on bus wife’s belly while she was pregnant and play that.
If you listen to Van Halen recordings, you will realize this 15 min solo is a montage of solo from singles strung together. The riff you are hearing at around 11:40 of your video is called "Cathedral" from the album Diver Down.
This may have already been stated: He was a child prodigy. His father hoped it would be classical piano but he chose his medium - guitar. Every time I see him play it’s like he’s proving something to his father
It is so fun to watch peoples facial expressions as there brain tries to process it all . Eddie was the first at many new things and a true legend and KING of the hammer ons . Amen
THAT is a ROCK SHOW, my dear!!!!
U stuck with it the whole 13 minutes. I love u for that.
Eddie was one of the best rhythm players too, his pocket was incredible. And he was a killer songwriter. Over all, his musicality was next level. (Not all guitar heroes got past being mere finger athletes and into the actual art of music. That’s where Eddie stands head and shoulders above all the rest).

You're smoooooth Ashley!!!
RIP Eddie, thanks for making my teenage years great
And just think: This was midway through the show. He's still got another half of a concert to play...and he did this in pretty much every show the band played live, for over 15 years.
and he was usually drunk and high on coke 😎
Also he was pretty drunk for this show solo
Congrats! You just got to experience the GOAT! RIP Eddie
Another great reaction, that was great.
This entire live concert (Live Without a Net) is out of bounds from start to finish. I highly recommend it. So much energy and talent on display from all the guys it's astounding.

Welcome to the Van Halen Club!
When I first heard Eruption on the radio in 1978, I stopped what I was doing and went directly to Sounds of Upper Darby and bought the record.
Amazing never heard anything like it back then.
Long live THE KING!!!
The greatest Guitarist of all time. He invented technicians that everyone else has been using for decades.
The Guitarist is Eddy Van Halen. It's his band. His brother is the drummer. Saw them once live and they give a hell of a concert.....awesome
The late great Eddie Van Halen 🎸
His father was a big band musician from Holland. After WWI they came to America on a ship with a piano. He couldn't speak English. You can tell his style of playing was based around piano and horns and all the old instruments. A truly great gift of playing
Oh...watch the whole concert.....Live without a Net....great show.... Peace....again...!

@@tragicdeyz2641 uh yes. No one decides for me who I believe is the best. So yeah.
Eddie decided it for you Punk
I’m 51; first time to finally get to see VH live was on this tour; 5150, in 1986. Such a great moment in time to be a teenager.
Thank you for appreciating this MAN for who he is
In a later interview, he said that he was so drunk, that he didn't even remember this concert. He did this literally blackout drunk.
The 1st thing he played is called 3-16 and he wrote it for and played it to his unborn son Wolfgang. The rest of this solo is mostly pieces of songs that weren't played during the concert.

Van, Mr. Halen. Too cute!! ❤ Eddie was the best ever, sweet tart. Loved your soft speak and adorable amazement.

Witness a master at his craft. If you notice. His eyes are closed thru most of it.
I saw them live 1986. Eddie was his name. Great reaction!! He is timeless like no other.
Best guitar solo of all time!!!!!!!
Loved Eddie. He wished he didn’t start smoking when he got cancer. RIP

Jimi Hendricks, Chicago's Terry Kath, and Jeff Healy, who was blind. Watch Jeff Healy and Stevie Ray Vaughn play together... amazing!
Great reaction! “HAMMER PANTS”?? No one knows who Hammer is yet when Eddy played this, check the dates! 😊
Hi Ashley. Its wonderful to see your reaction to seeing Eddie do his thing as it reminds me of how it charged me up the first time I heard it. Alex's drum set is no joke too. By the way Alex's and Eddie Brothers. RIP Eddie. 😢. Listen to some Rush. RIP Neil Peart! 😢
Eddie Van Halen was the guy that played the lead solo on Micheal Jackson's "Beat It"!!!!
When asked in an interview, "How many sounds he could make on a guitar" he answered, "All of them".
Try another mind blowing guitar solo Gary Richraft flying turkey trot live REO Speed wagon best ever
The cigarette is in between the strings and the head of the guitar, it was a makeshift holding place for a lot of guitarist of his generation
All of “Van Halen” is the last name(it’s Dutch)…he’s Edward (Eddie)…along with his brother Alex on drums.
Yes Eddie van Halen is one of the best ever. And great person as well ❤

He used know peddle his guitar that he made himself makes those awesome sounds.
The guitar is a custom built stratocaster known has the Frankenstrat, Eddie created it. RIP
That was the 5150 Kramer 1986 model. Ed specifically designed the pups and the high bleed treble. Straight wired to the volume knob.
Eddie is the guitar God of our generation
of ANY generation.... including the buffoons who choose Hendrix ;)
Imagining someone just learning to play guitar and struggling with this note or that note or trying to get your fingers to notes fast enough and then seeing this. It is other worldly.
The guitar Eddie was playing sold at a Sotheby's auction last month (April 2023) for 3.9 million dollars.
Not the same one. A replica

This may have already been stated: He was a child prodigy. His father hoped it would be classical piano but he chose his medium - guitar. Every time I see him play it’s like he’s proving something to his father
The drummer is his brother and he's just as talented on the drums
RIP Eddie😢❤🎸
Queen Bohemian Rhapsody. Ac/DC thunder struck. The black crows. Are the bands you should check out
Hear the 3 different instruments in his guitar? THE Oboe, the violin & the bongos.
He "changes the pitch" using the tremelo arm or "Whammy bar".
