  • Welcome to the most unexplored ecosystem in the ocean, the dark depths of the DEEP SEA and importantly, exploring the towering giants that are HYDROTHERMAL VENTS.
Did you know that the discovery of hydrothermal vents in the deep sea revolutionised our understanding of life? Incredibly, they were only discovered 44 years ago!
⚫️ What is a hydrothermal vent and where can you find them?
⚫️ How does life thrive in the extreme conditions found here?
⚫️ What are the biggest threats to the deep sea?
⚫️ What can we do to help conserve it?
This video deep dives into the unknown, exploring the mysteries of a landscape that covers a mind-blowing 65% of the earth’s surface! In a world with no light and temperatures that can soar to 400 °C, you’d think the chances of life are pretty slim, but the biomass at these vents can match tropical rainforests!
Learn about the abundance of life that THRIVES at these depths, the critical role that hydrothermal vents play in supporting life found in every corner of the ocean, and the saddening threats that human activity is already having on an ecosystem which remains 95% unexplored.
