    Hi, Cloud. I've not heard it before, but it sounds better than the average Phil demo. It bounces along nicely with some stabs of guitar and Phil's vocal to lend it distinction. I think I'm developing some sort of allergy to Ricky Warwick's voice by this point. The second he opens his mouth my mood drops quicker than an elevator in freefall.

    I thought the BSR song was terrible, probably the worst I have heard.
    Concidering BSR was supposed to be Thin Lizzy MRK2 I think Phil would have been seriously upset about this effort.
    Regarding Still Alive, I actually have a very great fondness of the song.
    Weirdly I didn't discover it until the last 10 years or so, but it strangely takes me back to the mid 80's when it was recorded.
    It's a bit like a long lost song you never heard, but should have been a big hit.
    I think it deserved to be a single, but obviously following Phil's untimely death would have seemed an inappropriate title.
    But I have always felt this was the hit that never was.
    God how much talent did Phil have???
    God bless Phil and Thin Lizzy Thursdays ❤

      Still Alive is great. I definitely could see it on a Back to the Future soundtrack. Great little tune. Cheers mate!

      @@gregtroyan I totally agree. I'm praying one day it gets an official release along with the songs Phil was working on just before he left us.
      His talent never seems to stop surprising me. Such an under rated talent.

    Obviously a Huey song that he thought Phil would do a better vocal on when they recorded it in '85. Phil's vocal is the best part.
    Can't Get Away was also recorded in that session, a Grand Slam song. Can't Get Away is a much better song.
    Still Alive does have some value to me because it is among some of the last things Philip ever recorded.😢

      Nah, this song is great.

      @@gregtroyanIt's Meh. I did edit out the part about it being possibly the worst song Phil was ever involved with. It's in D rank for me though.

    I’m with you Greg. Never heard it before, but I liked it. You said it’s a demo, but it didn’t sound like a demo to me. Seemed like a fully completed song, but what do I know?

    • @gregtroyan
      @gregtroyan  14 дней назад

      Demo quality can vary pretty greatly. A lot of demo tracks sound like fully finished songs.

      There is a rough demo where Huey sings the lead vocal. Thank god he handed it to Phil to make the vocal respectable.
      Some of us wish Greg would have handed the Lipstick vocals off to someone else to make them respectable. Just playing...well, kinda.😌

      @@Michael----- I've often said Lipstick should have had a different singer. I think what I should have done is gone full Jim Steinman and handed vocals off to somebody else. The problem was I wrote songs that were very singer-songwriter/y in terms of how specific they were to my life, and I couldn't find someone who was as good of a frontman to sing them. What I probably should have done if I was the singer was adjust the melodies to fit better in my range and focus more on Americana.

      @@gregtroyanYeah, Fight Back would not have been near as powerful if someone else had done the vocal. There is a compliment in there in case you missed it.😏

      @gregtroyan  14 дней назад

      @@Michael----- Oh, there's certain songs where I kill it and nail the vocal (Fight Back being the best example). I think I really needed an actual producer instead of trying to produce it myself. Billy and Steve were great but they weren't able to guide me vocally, and I failed to guide myself.

    Greg stops torturing you at 4:40
    Only Greg would admit a BSR song is total garbage and then make you listen to even more of it.😵‍💫

      I had to see WHY the track was 7 minutes.
