They need to patch this part of the game. A DD would never sail at 3Knts and roll depth charges in 20 meters of water. They would break their own hull doing that. You never want a charge going off almost directly below you. The ships in WWII would speed up to roll then clear the area, turn to get their screw noise out of the passive sonar, slow and wait for U-boat noise. I'm not an expert in coastal shallow water defense but exploding a huge explosive under your own screws doesn't sound like it would pay off.
Hiding strat just out of "down periscope"! :D The better part is that you used the enemy own destroyer instead of an oblivious tanker to make your escape, that was pure madness, even more that it paid off! xD
I tried this mission like ten times now and my mouse nearly made friends with my wall countless times. This misson os just mad in every way I could think of
i managed to escape thru the southern mined opening as i was encircled there. had a good 15 meter deep water gap on the right side with no mines and just slid thru
i tried this mission 4 times, the first 3 times i went in sneaky sneaky and failed miserably. the 4th time i said f it and went in like there were no destroyers at all. the 4th time was the charm lol. i even had to make 2 attacks since her didnt sink after taking 4 eels. i never went silent running to escape or anything, just sailed in, made my calculations, fires the torpedoes, went in a second time to finish it off, and then i just sailed out seeing the destroyers dropping waterbombs everywhere ecept the place i was:P my advice: just stay on periscope depth and shoot from a distance.
I used U-4 for this mission. It took multiple attempts. I ended up sinking the destroyer and aircraft carrier first then returning with a full complement of torpedoes for the Scapa Flow. I ran primarily on the electric motors until I got close in order to conserve fuel. Only recharging the batteries at lower speeds. Obviously making sure they were fully charged before I ended up entering the harbor at night.
intresting that you did it in 1941 Im still in my U48 and its 1939 it sank but mein gott what a pain but thx to your travel guide it i could do it without taking any damage German Stock is nice
"Close the bulkhead." No, the bulkheads are the walls, the hatches are the doors. And on submarines, the verb is "shut" not "close" because "close" can sound like "blow" in a crisis situation. Just FWIW.
Question to Taff: I use a very aggressive tactic. Going into battleship and carrier convoys to make sure that my eels will destroy them. Yet, when I try to do that, all of the escorts around me are (of course) trying to find out where I am and drop depth charges which I can avoid by diving further. But now it seems that they have another weapon. Some bright flashes. I used the outside camera to see if they are depth charges. they are not. What is it and how can I avoid losing my ship and crew to the sharks? It's best to see in the night, it's like thunder flashes. They always kill me, I go now from further distance but that of course also means that the chances of hitting my targets is very much decreasing. Just to be sure, this is in SH5, in the Med, close to Gibraltar (as I said, I like to use a very agressive tactic. Often I align my boat straight with the corvette and just hit her right in front, only need one eel in that way :-D
Yes you can promote and arrange your crew as well as some people will prove like weak willed or have heart problems and you remove them until you get a better crew you can also hire new officers and promote normal sea man as well as there are medal ceremonies when you get back from patrol
If you poke a wasps' nest, don't be surprised if you get stung. But the u-47 sailed into the wasps' nest 2 years earlier, during which time there were not so many ships in it. Holm Sound is way too wide in the game and where are the blocking ships?
Minimize flooding my butt also there is no way to go undetected unless you go through the minefield in the south in which case you need enough repairs for the entry and exile mine hits
lol, the point of scapa flow was that the english didn't see it coming, no point in it if there are hundereds of destroyers there. Stuff like that, the torpedo shooting, the periscope and the physics (boats being able to slow down and speed up like cars) that make this game so unimmersive. I always come back to give it a try, but even now it's still just good on paper.... Just not fun yet, hope they get it fixed, but am doubtful. Whenever someone comes up with a game in the genre it's either buggy as hell or just bad, like ww2 submarine games are cursed...

That sounded better than Tom Clancy. 👍
Taff: sets firing parameters while paused
His crew, watching the captain set parameters at high speed: mein gott
Yo this man on 4 pervitins
19:27 Got a chuckle out of me. That's some Looney Tunes level hiding antics.
That destroyer captain must have been a German sleeper agent, shielding your escape after your attack 🙂
Thank God they didn´t use hedgehogs.
@@foreverpinkf.7603 : Hedgehogs didn’t exist in 1941.

Crikey Taff! You really poked the British bulldog, this time! Amazing that you managed to get out of the kennel with your knackers still intact!
Watched and 👍 Liked

Taff you madman! Going into that anchorage in daylight? Crazy!
Congratulations skipper. Imagine what it must have been like for real.
Outrageous!!!!!

Nice... Grinding under the Corvette
Had to keep it rubbing the bottom so not to loose the conning tower, so shallow in those entrances

Great atmospheric videos. Thanks
Wish I could get uboat to run this good on my pc. Gg scapa mission!

That fog is ridiculous
Not uncommon for northern or eastern Scotland.
Captain you did such a great job we want you to go back👍
Bro seeing you do this attack during the day makes me panic XD
Good one today I loved it.
Excellent playthrough
Getting a snorkel in 41' is a bit far fetched from what I have read, still though...good times.
RIP Gunther Prien and all WW2 Kriegsmarine.
Exciting vid.
Thx
Nice
13:30 on the right of you on the map, I think two destroyers collide, lol. One disappears off the map.
This is by far...the hardest ever mission for a single uboat 😮🥺

Old comment I know, but I believe it’s the DD’S firings their star shells to illuminate the area. They get me too 😢
Hi Taff! Great video! Can you promote and arrange your crew like in Silent Hunter 3? I also entered Scapa Flow in that game and sank a battleship😀

Good Gawd, im still in harbor trying to leave for mission one and the thing wont move and you are snorkeling into scapa flow lol
Now I know why my boat fills up in an instant, with such holes lol.
Its like you took a selfie with the "royal oak" and tag royal navy guess who has a sinking battleship?
Sorry to say U-96, but U-47 beat you to the punch by about two years.
So you’re Gunther Prien for this mission.
I want to like this game but after a few missions I just keep coming back to an invisible La Rochelle and I'm stuck. :((
Yes this games is way way to easy and mainstream
Are you using the B131 patch?
Did you know about the u boat net gap before starting the mission ?
…no…
No thought I was dead meat on the return, not something highlighted in the headquarters recon mission
@@TaffinExile Well played
man nelson sunk quick, imagine being trapped inside :/
is this game modable to be simulation?
May I ask on which simulator/crew managment difficulty are you playing on?
Too bad you didn't pop a couple of those pesky destroyers with your rear tubes Taff
16:43 what is this song?
Is it my imagination or are Lambs Holm and Glimps Holm missing from the map?
10:38 the Bermuda Triangle?

cross gibralter lol
I’ll let the crew have a break after that one

Or old as fuck like the silent hunter series
Um, Scapa Flow was a fleet base. That most of the fleet was out during the attack was sheer coincidence.
@@greenfingernaildirt356 : Take your pick - crap graphics and realistic gameplay, or realistic gameplay and crap graphics.
Silent hunter 3 whit mods was good back in the days. but now all sub sim games are just shitty and to mainstream in gameplay
Silent Hunter 3 with the GWX and Widescreen mods is pretty good. Stable and reasonably realistic without the micromanagement of the others.
Man! Wtf!? Royal oak is down but HOW TO ESCAPE!?
SO SHOW ME,,
