Thank you Antonio. You've had an astounding career to go along with your astounding ability. Not only were you involved in the creation of this epic masterpiece, you later on won an Academy award as a solo drummer, put out 2 great CD's under your own name, and was still Pat Metheny's drummer all in the same year. That's undeniably impressive.
The ultimate swansong for one of the iconic ensembles of all time who made some of the greatest music ever and always did things their way. God bless PMG
Having got the score of the Way Up - how do they remember to play 254 pages of such complicated music; it's beyond me. It's beyond most humans. Except these genuises.
Amazing band. Just feel grateful that I was able to see Lyle Mays play live with the Pat Metheny band a couple of times. Such a beautiful and lyrical player and imho one of the greatest piano players. Lyle Mays era Pat metheny band was so special.
I couldn't agree more! I only wish I'd had the intense pleasure it would've been to see the PMG with Lyle. Living in Western Canada made that difficult to arrange at the time. Oh, to turn back the clock!
No, I don't know how music could possibly get any better than this. And it doesn't need to! I got to see this incarnation of the PMG at an unannounced gig at Johnson State College in Vermont, their final 'rehearsal' gig before taking TWU on tour and I sat ten feet from Lyle's piano. What a wonderful drug-
I was at the JSC show as well. I am a long-time, die hard PMG fan and I remember a friend saying "It's like having the Beatles come to town". We are all so lucky both for the fact that this group created so much original and beautfiful music but also that they toured so regularly to venues big and small. In VT alone I saw PMG @ JSC, the Flynn (3 or 4 times) and Sugarbush.
I am fortunate to have seen Antonio play with Metheny a number of times (on many of Pats projects) and he is always superb and always giving the music 100 percent swing.
Have seen Pat play live probably 45 plus times since 1979, this tour was off the charts. Saw this gig in a relatively small venue in Portland, 2nd row, truly mesmerizing. Love all the iterations of Pat’s projects but this has to be the best band ever assembled. Still get chills watching this gig on RUclips. Remain somewhat sad PMG went away after this but I’m guessing Pat and Lyle probably shrugged and said how the hell do we top that…
I was there somewhere in the middle of the 150,000 strong crowd......it was the 13th and final show of that tour I was fortunate to attend and witness PMG at its best performing the entire album live along with other classics. Hard to believe its almost been 20 years since that tour. I will forever be grateful that I had the chance to see once of the most amazing bands ever assembled perform their best recording (IMHO) as a swan song......
Goosebumps & tears of joy coming up while listening. Absolutely Beautiful. It's one of my all time favorite suites from the group. Thanks so much for sharing Antonio! ❤
Antonio, we met briefly in the South of France by a food truck during a PM show, and I thanked you for this album that is a lifelong healer of EVERYTHING for me. Wings, tears of joy, you are brilliant, you all are, the summum of expression and legal drug for soul flight. Bless you for this musical gift.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful and phenomenally moving segment of The Way Up. It opens up a portal to heaven. The vocalese, the instruments…there are really no words, it builds to the crescendo then grabs your heart. I used to listen to The First Circle with Pedro Aznar on vocals, of course the late, great Mark Ledford and Lyle Mays ( RIP) on piano, then Another Life ,with Richard Bona on vocals ( Speaking of Now) over and over. Then The Way Up, Part 3, took me into the stratosphere. I am so thrilled to have experienced The PMG. One of a kind for the Ages! MBT 7/5/24
Ridiculously amazing...Amazingly ridiculous...in a beautiful way...Lyle kills it...they all do...Pat is the mad scientist of jazz, I stole that from somebody..
Antonio, my friend and I saw you and the PM Group at Spreckle's Theater in San Diego for The Way Up tour. Of all the many times I've seen PM in different band configurations, this was by far the best! Probably the best concert I've seen since those epic rock shows of the 70's. We had 2nd row seats slightly right of center so a great view of you and your drum kit, really fun to watch you play so well! Thanks for posting this.
Una maravilla de obra realmente... creo que es el clímax de PMG. Una maravilla. Si tuviera que realizarles preguntas... me centraría en esta obra, para mí, póstuma. Un abrazo desde Argentina Antonio! Gracias por compartir!
The guitar solo in Part Three is one of the best sections in The Way Up imo, going from very complex to just looping four chords, very refreshing! Also could it be a nod to Dream of the Return with the order of guitar solo, piano solo and synth guitar solo? Respect to Antonio for picking up the bass in the end so that Steve can play the arco part!
This TV broadcast was my first time learning of you, Antonio. Is it true there were around 1 million people there that magical night? Needless to say, I love your work.
This is where 'Bach' and modernity intersect.
Pat Metheny should be distributed in pharmacies.
Absolutely!!!!!!!!
👌I put Pat Metheny on in the car when I'm stressed...I call it the "Pat Metheny Protocol."
OTC 🎶 🤲 💓
Unforgettable era. I’ll always come back to the original PMG for solace that the world and stars above can be right.

The vocals at the end, then back to the recurring theme.....sheeeeeiiittt...
This whole album is off the charts!!!!
This whole album is only this tune!
❤❤❤
The ultimate swansong for one of the iconic ensembles of all time who made some of the greatest music ever and always did things their way. God bless PMG
💯 %
2002 speak 🗣️ of now. 2005 way up 🔝. The last and best works of PMG 😊😊😊
Having got the score of the Way Up - how do they remember to play 254 pages of such complicated music; it's beyond me. It's beyond most humans. Except these genuises.
It's easier to remember when the music is transformed in the artist's mind into a story
254 pages, non stop, with changes. Is there any ensemble that could come close to what they did?
They hit such a peak with this album and tour. It was beyond anything I had ever experienced.
That's the most talented, inspiring ensemble ever. Ever!

Healing energy coming your way in musical form..

I am so thankful to have been in the audience during some of the PMG performances. ❤
Miss this group. Pat Metheny at his best sound.

Outstanding musicians ! A great moment of this great band,. with great the addition of Antonio Sánchez ! For me Lyle Mays has no replace
For those are not aware, there's probably 100k plus watching this live in Montréal.

Do you know what those 4 chords are?

Wow😱
Pat Metheney makes the weather.
I hate to admit it but a museum dose of shrooms and Pat Metheney is the new drug of the future. Absolutely breathtaking. No toxins.
Great memories! 👍
Fantastic! 👌🎵🎶🎵🎶
Thanks for all Antonio. I'm your fan from Brazil.
Fantastic bass playin Antonio
Steve Rodby on bass - yes, amazing. Antonio on drums, also amazing!
@@ralphmunn1685 I know this. Butttt Antonio played the fretless on the ending before switching back to drums. 😁
It's Steve rodby on bass.
@@krball56 it’s antonio on fretless bass at the end. Good lord, I didn’t think this was gonna be a debate.
@@krball56 thanks for worrying about my knickers. ☺️🙃
outstanding!!
Masterful performance. SMH
If a piece of music could light the afterburners, stand on its tail and accelerate to Mach 1 to 30K feet, THIS IS IT.
It's great! Thanks a Lot!! From BRAZIL!!!
Creo que la mejor version de este concierto fue la que grabaron para el DVD en Korea, esa version esta increible.
Musical insanity.
Best composers ever: J.S.Bach .................... P.Metheny.......................................................................................................Year 2459 ......................;)
the best ❤
This TV broadcast was my first time learning of you, Antonio. Is it true there were around 1 million people there that magical night? Needless to say, I love your work.
Genios!
Over miked the bass drum. I love Antonio Sanchez, arguably one of the finest ever. This is also one the best Metheny Group tracis ever. .
If Pat would tour with the Group... MONEY
Saw this tour in New Brunswick. I felt the end of PMG was coming. Where do you go from here?
You just carry on! 😅😅 Just another chapter in life for Pat.
tuning guitar?
RIP Lyle
Lyle Mays Aubrey Johnson
