The "put your trash out Wednesday morning not Tuesday night" rule fills me with such primal rage
Yeah, if someone started something like that with me, I'd just let the trash pile up. Couldn't make it Wednesday morning.
Agreed, if someone tried to tell me not to put out the trash bin on Tuesday night then they’re gonna end up in that bin on a Wednesday morning
That was the rule where I grew up, but it was because leaving trash out all night would attract bears.
Lol I’d just assume it meant “bad” things come out at night
@@limeslayer I know a guy who grew up in Alaska and they had similar issues with moose! Not as persistent at rooting through trash as bears but just as dangerous in some ways!

Very clever, my personal favourite bit is the "I cancelled your subscription; why pay for the news?" while handing the viewer a homemade local "newspaper". Love it when cult-related media reflects actual cult tactics instead of just being vague nonsense about human sacrifice. And the comparison of HoA's to cults is in itself very novel!
wait is that a real thing?
@@matthewwalker3131 i would assume that to maintain control over people in a cult the cult leader would prevent as much news from the outside world getting to the person, so the news being cancelled as they were finding out too much and being replaced with approved news would make sense
@@matthewwalker3131 Several religious organizations like Jehovah's Witnesses create their own news sources and discourage people from consuming 'worldly' news sources.
@@catkittycatcatkittycatcat9652 I actually spent some time in a cult and this is a legit tactic. You divide information up in to 2 categories: inside and outside. Then you find ways to demonize outsider information and make them seem unreliable, which then leaves the only trustworthy sources to be the insiders: the group approved ones
@@matthewwalker3131 Yeah, I used to be in a cult and they do everything they can to discourage and discredit information from outside their controlled channels while making it clear that anything they produce is far more truthful. It's a control tactic to ensure you don't ask questions that could help break you away from the cult.
A nice detail is that the HOA neighbor cancels your newspaper subscription right after the newspaper runs a story about HOA members stealing $10,000 from the Christmas Fundraiser Gala last year.
The neighbor then replaces the newspaper with the standardized HOA-approved news pamphlet
The story after that was about a scientist (Who looks like brian) drowning in a nearby lake
Did he just give us an entire indie horror game experience in the space of 1 and a half minutes?!
Including a banger soundtrack!
BDG already made one of the most legit scary horror shorts just by making jean shorts.

Have you seen the video about wanting to wear hats? That one’s my favourite alongside the vid with Jake and the camcorder, but this one is veeeery close.

I love how at the end, there’s a full trash bag in the inventory. It may or may not contain the body of the previous neighbor, but at least it’s going out on a Wednesday morning!
So many likes but where are the comments
@@otherDante2 Thank you for being the first to comment. I didn’t even know my comment had so many likes. This really boosted my day.
For those looking for lore, right before the newspaper subscription is cancelled, it shows a picture of “Brian” in glasses, with the caption “Scientist’s body discovered in lake”
I think the scientist made a cloning vat and the clones went rogue and killed him
Also whenever a "Brian" dies they get resurrected in the blue bath, as shown in the pamphlet (with the quote "revitalizing liquid" and before "The Slimy Brian" shows, another thing to note is that before "Brian" dies he hesitates at saying "Moved in" this detail and the body floating in the lake leads me to believe that this isn't the first "Brian" with glasses
Where?
This also tracks with the headline that claims a genetic cure for alzheimer’s implying their genetic sciences would be/could be on the level of cloning
@@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwsyz357 Timestamp 0:42 read the requirements for a bathroom.
I love how the clock shows the player kept trying to put the trash out later at night to try and avoid him.

@@MandrakeHorse Late reply but you can actually see a bin before the newspaper slides in
There's so many details! :0
I like that the comments are split between "woah this is so scary" and "yeah this is exactly what being on a HOA is like"
HOAs are inherently scary
I'm most unnerved by the fact that he didn't just look wet at the end, he looked *slimy*
Cause he's a recent clone thanks to the cloning machine that is his bathtub. Also, he was a previously a scientist that was found dead in a lake
@@WD_Gaster66 that makes more sense
i was thinking robot bc no blood and the axe broke
recently "hatched"
He slimed
@@h2o848 Well, you get a trashbag too, so I'm assuming they put the body in the bag, so them being a robot is a bit odd.
The thing that makes the neighbor character really unsettling to me is how he just… never gets upset. He briefly cracks the third time you put the trash out but instantly brushed it off and jokes about how you keep sneaking past him. It almost doesn’t dawn on him that you two aren’t friends, and even when his head is lying on the floor he remains positive. He was annoying and controlling but didn’t seem physically threatening at all.
The second neighbor though, gives you a look of unbridled rage, which suddenly makes you seem a lot less safe.
The second neighbour was completely drenched. Part of me is wondering if the body was thrown in the lake(apparently the newspaper had an article about a scientist's body being found there) and they just came back to life, but angrier.
@@peterwatt9219 i think what it is is that the scientist was found dead in a lake (for whatever reason) but he invented a cloning machine out of his bathtub. The second neighbor that greets us at the end just got out of some soggy bathtub cloning goop
I thought the second neighbor was the first neighbor
it's the same guy - he came out of the lake when you put him there, and while he can't remember who he was or what you did, the hoa binds him and keeps him there no matter what you try. that's why he mentions it despite logically as a "new neighbour" not being already part of it! it brought him back :)
I love that that the HOA member says that they're always in bed by 10, but they know our light is often on past 2 👀 Wonder if it has anything to do with how they know what shows we watch
or know the thread count of our sheets
I mean, Mr. In bed by ten doesn’t seem to have any problem being out on New Neighbor’s curb at almost midnight checking for garbage cans! I don’t think we can take anything he says at face value.
just put camera's in their house and watch it when you wake up
They also catch us putting our trash out Tuesday night very close to midnight
We now know it takes them roughly 10 hours to grow a new Brian. This will be important information later on when exploring out in The Neighborhood.
For exact timing, though, we need to know if the cookies were already baked or if he got up and immediately started baking. Fresh cookies are always better... but he's still wet.
It'll definitely come in handy in the DLC
Ehhh we don't know that. Could've been growing as a backup beforehand.
Where are you getting 10 hours from?
He kills the original at 12 on Wednesday then meets the new Brian at 10 on a Wednesday. Given the trash bag it's probably been only a single week and since the new clone is wet he was probably just finished
Edit I need to stop making comments at 2 in the morning
@@placeholder2586 ? I’m confused, he was killed at midnight on Wednesday and they met the new one at 10 am on a Wednesday, hence 10 hours

Existential dread
I once got a letter from the HOA because during the pandemic my son lost his home and came to live with me so there were two cars in the driveway not inside a garage. After six months I got a note from the HOA that the houses were single family and he would need to move out. I went to the next meeting and asked them how much HOA dues would go up after they lose the lawsuit to determine whether your son counts as part of your family. I also explained that it was very strange that any of the HOA board members would make such a complaint, especially since it's public knowledge where each of them sleep. The issue was dropped.

having the first neighbor stumble over some of his words like when he says since I ... moved in, like he doesn't remember is a really nice touch.
I think he was gonna say something like 'Since I was made' on accident, being a clone and all.
I think it's a small point about arrogance, and on both sides. You don't want to hear him even though he has experience making a better community, while he simultaneously has the audacity to pretend as if he was never your age.
I thought he was reacting to the cloning vat appearing on the screen.
My parents told me about the time a neighbor tried to build a wooden playhouse in their backyard for their children and the HOA had to get together to vote on whether or not he was allowed to keep it because it too closely resembled a shed, which was against the HOA guidelines. They also ban vegetable gardens and above ground swimming pools. I find it baffling that you're just not allowed to use the land you own however you want because [checks HOA booklet] the neighborhood is worried a single unsightly chain link fence will drive their property value down.

i love how the change to rhyming is gradual, and starts with just sentences that rhyme instead of specific lines that rhyme, before going completely to a rhyming song. and if you look at the newspaper article, it mentions a scientist who rhymes without meaning to!! it's got the horror game vibe of things starting out a little odd, before gradually getting more and more insane as the game continues
the change to rhyme is so well implemented
also a random scientist unintentionally rhymed and shortly after disappeared as seen in the text of the newspaper, i think that gradually everyone in the neighborhood is being replaced by clones that rhyme and have a linked brain with the original, causing the original to start rhyming too
It’s the starkid musical The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals nooooooooooooo
@@breanna5763oh i thought the same thing
Some of my favorite details I haven't seen mentioned:
The sound effect at the start of the video is identical to the one played when the clone wakes up from the vat. It sounds like the listener is rising out of a viscous liquid, so has this happened before and we're starting a new loop? How long has this gone on?
We hear the severed head say "I wasn't lying when I told you that it was" and then trail off before the clone cuts him off with "nice to meet you!" However, this is the first time anyone in the video has said "nice to meet you," which leads us again to the question of how long have you been meeting this neighbor?
The newspaper is named the "Aletheia Times," which is noteworthy here because Aletheia is the Greek word for memory. More specifically, it comes from the river Lethe, which ran through the underworld and the dead were forced to drink from it to forget their lives. The word Lethe doesn't just mean to forget, it means the loss of the self, oblivion, and the destruction of truth. Conversely, Aletheia is the negative form of Lethe, so it means enduring truth, being saved from oblivion, and the preservation of the self through memory.
In the same vein as the previous note, Greek philosophers believed that a soul would only be REINCARNATED after it drank from the river Lethe and forgot its past life. The scientist being found in a lake, the clone rising up from water, and all the blue water imagery seem like subtle references to this, especially since they're supposed to be in a drought.
Love the seemingly random tidbit about researchers finding a genetic marker for Alzheimer's too, the depth to which this is all intertwined with the whole scientist and memory stuff is incredible.
Oh, also the river Lethe ran by the cave of Hypnos, and in the HOA Pamphlet it's curious how sleep and bathing are both heavily focused on and have the exact same language describing them.
This is top-notch! I didn't catch this despite knowing the mythology, you've got a keen eye.
Interesting!
wow, that was really interesting! really good eye
Wait, clone?
@@batnacks yeah, the general lore consensus is that the HOA guy, new neighbour, and POV character are all clones of the scientist who died in the lake, because of the new neighbour looking the same as the hoa guy after he died, and because he was sopping wet (from the cloning vats viewed in the bathroom page of the pamphlet as well as the end of the video)
One thing I've noticed is that Brian #1 says "I'm just down the street" whereas Brian #2 says "I'm ALWAYS just down the street", which sounds much more threatening given context
The "since I... Moved in" is such a good line. It suddenly hits when you see the ending.
What does the ending even mean? I get that it's something to do with the creepy bath thing, but what exactly?
@@mustacheman529 The last frame of the newspaper before he kinda takes it away shows "Scientist body discovered in lake" with brian's picture
might be related?
update like 5 seconds later after checking some stuff:
so i think it's safe to say that the viewer decapitated brian and put him in the trash bag? the brian we talk to for most of the video might be a robot or something? it would be odd for a normal human to break an axe while dying to it, and there was no blood when he was decapitated (also still talking)
so i think real brian came back to life somehow (1:15 plays a sort of emerging from water sound, and the "blue" motif is strong but idk what it's about) and that's the brian we see at the end
tl;dr brian that dies is a robot or something and new brian is a scientist that was in a lake and got out at the end??
@@h2o848 i think the new brian is a clone, and the bathtub was a cloning pod. Maybe the scientist dying was an attempt at faking his death...?
@@pearlyp9898 i think EVERYONE in the neighborhood has cloning pods in their bathtubs, since it's in the HOA pamphlet. maybe every neighbor clones themselves whenever they die, so they can live forever?

@@RhysezPieces mate i dont even understand how people use the comforter in the first place, the small burrito throw blanket i use is warm enough as is

@@alejotassile6441 It's a measure of the number of threads contained in one square inch of fabric. It's irrelevant to the actual quality of the bedding and mostly a marketing tactic.
i'm surprised no one's mentioned the "no memory foam" requirement in the bedding section of the pamphlet, fitting in with the hoa's cultish focus on memory and erasing cracks in the facade
This also works on a literal level - as the lack of impressions on the bed would stop the subsequent clones from realizing they hadn't, in fact, just moved in.

There's something VERY sinister about how the Protagonist FINDS the axe within the cookies that were given to them by the Neighbor. And that in some bizarre twist, the Protagonist is now putting the garbage out that Wednesday morning, about ten hours later, perhaps after a rejuvenating and important sleep?
A rejuvenating and important sleep, with no memory! Pillows, that is.
The two ideas on how the axe got there is 1: memory wiping happened at some point, probably based around their sleep. Second, it was placed there by somebody else, but there's only one person in the neighborhood thats interacting with the protagonist. Which we kill with the axe, so why would the rejuva-brian give them the axe.
@@kirbo7184 I mean how can an axe be within a cookie anyways, if we were to take this literally? And the first of three cookies at that.
That itself is also an intriguing thing to mull over. By (perhaps unintentionally) indulging in a gift given by the Neighbor, the Protagonist simultaneously falls in line with what the HOA wants (to give a gift of cookies for the Protagonist to eat, possibly affecting the Protagonist in some way) as well as provides the means for the Protagonist to kill this first Neighbor.
The Axe in the Cookie has got to be what the HOA wants. Why wouldnt their gift be extremely regulated?
I took it as him getting so annoyed by the speech that he turns and grabs an axe
I like to think of it as "oh, you want the trash taken out Wednesday morning? Alright, asshole!"
Fifty years ago, this would have been an episode of the Twilight Zone where the protagonist realizes that everybody else who lives in the neighborhood are all exact copies of the man from the HOA, and that he is about to become the next victim of the HOA bylaws. But Brian can somehow turn it into a catchy spoken-word rap with video game graphics. Incredible.

I really like how it’s like… *almost* rapping. The meter is always just a bit off, and it gets so close to rhyming but then doesn’t… It really makes the whole thing a lot more unsettling! Like your neighbor just isn’t quite right. 10/10
What's worse is that at several points it does rhyme, but it never rhymes in a way that fits the emphasis of the words. Any time you would expect a rhyming punchline there isn't one, but there are rhymes scattered throughout in a way that suggests there's almost a flow if the beat just started on a different syllable.
and it starts rhyming more and more as the video goes on! like the HOA member is becoming less of a real person and more of an NPC
It’s a pattern song!
I haven’t seen anyone else point these out yet, but heres a few details I noticed:
-around 0:34 and 0:51, you can see the smoke and flames from the wildfires in the background. In the scene between that, the sky is clear
-The bathroom recommendations in the HOA pamphlet show basically a cloning vat in the bathtub, which not only shows us what “Brian” is doing to come back, but also implies that they want every person in the neighborhood to be making perfect copies of themselves in the event of their untimely demise
BDG youve done it again
I think the dark appearance is just because it's night time in those shots
@@popeval6654 The shots im talking about take place at 2pm and 5pm, and you can see orange in the background on the right side. Plus, the surroundings aren’t dark like they are in the definite nighttime shots
Another interesting thing to note is that the flames have been burning for at least 3 months after the newspaper since the news of 25% of the Pacific Coast being on fire happens August 14th, and the HOA news does not cancel the subscription until Nov 25th.
The night after the fire shows up the viewer reads the newspaper, in the morning the sky isnt on fire and perfectly blue. Then after the paper is destroyed its back to fire and smoke. As if covering up the outside world so you can't put 2 and 2 together
The image of the cables going into the glowing bath seen on the pamphlet is also overlayed on top of the scene of the neighbor in the blue liquid toward the end
I love the constant mentions of blue (like with the duvet options and door colours) leading into brian's death and rebirth scenes being tinted blue.
you could make the argument that all the houses visible are shades of blue as well
This is related to the fact that the bathtub (And likely cloning chamber) requires a blue light.
Also the blue bath
also the cookies being brought in a blue plate, the axe having a blue handle and just the whole game interface being tinted blue. its a nice choice since blue is known for being the color of trust and the opposite of red (the ending being tinted in red + the color of blood etc etc)
'"The world is getting dryer," said Dr. Erica Grattleston, head precipitation expert at the Howle Weather Research Laboratory, "and that means fire."

The seamlessness of Neighbor’s interaction with New Neighbor’s inventory was so well done that it took me a moment to understand why I was suddenly angry. It’s such a good way to show the insidious boundary crossing inherent in this kind of Nosy Neighbor.
Very, very well done.
Analysis of a few things: The primary theme is the "cultishness" of the HOA. Always checking in always telling you not just how your house should look, not just telling you how to live your personal life, but they KNOW your personal life, how well you're sleeping, the shows you watch. Canceling your news subscription and replacing it with the HOA news. But there are also a few oddities. It's implied that bath tubes are used as "cloning devices" which have back ups for if one member dies. This is probably best interpreted as unescapable horror: the HOA cult isn't just one person, there's always another person coming to take the last person's place. You'll never be in control of your own life, the HOA will always be there.
Other weird things are include "We haven't watched things like that since since I (pause as the HOA member makes a confused/pained expression) moved in." I feel like this implies the HOA member is a victim of whatever weirdness is going on? This could be supported by the fact that the cookie, which came from the very same HOA member, contained an axe. But then this same HOA member was surprised by the axe. So now I'm wondering, why is the main character taking the trash out so late? Is it simply a way to try and get around the HOA... or is it because there's a clone in each bag?
I imagined the reason they put it out at night is because their light is always on past 2, implying they don't go to bed until that time, which means they likely don't get up early enough to put it out in the morning, but since the neighbour always seems to catch them, they start putting it out later and later in an attempt to avoid them.
i think the reason that the neighbor pauses when he says when he moved in could be due to him being a clone! then he would have no memories of moving in due to being created there!
The pov character is also a clone. You can hear them emerging from a bath in the beginning.
I thought the "We haven't watched things like that since since I... moved in." was meant to imply that no one on that street has watched stuff like that since he moved in because if they do he'll come bother then about it

Also know that HOA stuff can't override city laws, but they might have decent reasons for certain rules(like wild animals getting into the trash) so keep that in mind
Are you still there? I hope they didn't get you yet...
Just spent a couple minutes reading the newspaper and the HOA pamphlet writing on the side. It is all so funny and clever and such interesting worldbuilding for just this little video! Also the full trash bag and broken axe at the end are such great touches. What a fantastic video.
can you explain it? im stupid
@@pokefire953 I think it's just vague enough to leave room for interpretation but the HOA pamphlet mentions baths being rejuvenating and then the neighbor stumbles on "since I, moved in" and then in the newspaper there was an identical scientist's body found in a lake, then after the ax murder of the neighbor another identical neighbor emerges from a bathtub, like it's being used to just keep growing clones of the scientist. (Also there's sillier details too, u recommend watching the video on half speed and pausing frequently when text appears on screen
Home owners association guy cancelling the newspaper subscriptions after the "protagonist" reads it is a very good touch. Those articles are interesting... Especially the one that cuts off just before the cancellation.
Love the fact that neighbor guy says he's in bed by 10, yet knows your light is on at 2, and also knows what you're putting the garbage cans out at night, even though if he was going to bed before you put them out, he would have no way of knowing if they were there at night or of you just woke up before him
So, i actually had an HOA neighbor right across from my house at one point, and he had cameras set up all throughout the ENTIRE STREET, linked to his house, so he could report and file issues 24/7, my dad had done security at the time, noticed all the camera spots he set up, and then he proved it and reported him to the city, the hoa guy got kicked out and a masssssive fine, and i think he moved out later tht year.
I hope you're happy, Brian. I watched this right before bed and it gave me nightmares. Literally got startled awake by your face in a dream, and then had to turn on the light and look around my room for any suspicious Brians lurking in the corners.
Don't blame Brian. It's because the thread count in your sheets is low. You'd know this if you read page 19
Is it less than 400? Come on, be honest with us
As soon as he said "HOA", I was like 'ah, this is one of those things that turn into horror'
this fills the “wanting to solve a mystery instinct” so bad, I love that it’s short but sweet with plenty of questions left to ponder/theorize
Just heard the water(?) sound at the beginning, which matches 1:15 when neighbor gets reincarnated/cloned. Since the neighbor said that we “just moved in,” like they did at the end, we probably got reincarnated the previous night before this starts.
There are so many cool details I can't list them all, but here's one: I really appreciate how the rhymes sometimes spill over the bar and into the next sentence. Cleverly done.

Good rhymes are hard to come by. Definitely front page news above all else.
@@OnyDeus Yeah, no one could rhyme like that unintentionally.
If you read this comment like it's part of a song, it makes the "one" rhyme with "done", which is also on the next sentence in a comment talking about how the rhymes flow over to the next sentence.

But was it intentional? I have to know.
One of those videos that you need to rewatch on 0.5 to notice headlines, rhymes, exact count of pillows and all that stuff. Thank you as always, Brian and Karen, you did awesome job!
The bathtub filled with cords was genuinely so effective for setting the unsettling tone of this whole video

It might be a reference to The Secret of Monkey Island's "Open Cake" puzzle.
I think the important question is: Did the scientist make that sentence rhyme on purpose?
If only every HOA member had rhymes this sweet.

Every new BDG video is a gamble of whether I'm gonna laugh or have nightmares. But both are so well done I don't mind.
Why not both?
It's been mentioned, but yeah, we just bought a house last year and "trash is on Wednesday morning not Tuesday night" is the hard truth horror in these lyrics.
Ok I wrote a super long analysis that got deleted from my notes app so here’s some details about the neighborhood and HOA showing their desire for impossible perfection.
For simplicity’s sake we’ll call the HOA member Neighbor and the POV character you
0:13 The HOA’s logo seems to be three identical and monochrome houses, showing their desire for perfection and indistinguishabiliality.
0:17 The screen glitches as you receive the pamphlet as yo. have now made contact with the HOA.
0:27 Trash isn’t set out on Wednesday, it’s set out specifically Wednesday mornings. The HOA wants the garbage cans off the street as soon as possible so they don’t taint the neighborhood’s image. It’s noteable that we aren’t told the definition of Wednesday morning. What is the timeframe in which its okay to place it?
0:31 The neighbor doesn’t seem to be disturbed by the light being on so late, but the implications that you are awake so late. We see later the pamphlet emphasizes the importance of sleep, so neighbor has begun to address that concern.
0:34 The sky has turned an odd color. It looks like a storm mixed with a sunset, but I think 2:04 pm is too early for a sunset (but idk where this video is set)
0:36 Neighbor somehow knows your sheet’s thread count. Either the HOA is spying on you and he was informed, he snuck in your house and somehow figured it out or he and/or the HOA have some sort of all seeing power or can detect when something needs to fix something
0:39 Twin XL beds are to be used in this neighborhood. I think this is a reference to when TV shows used to have the husband and wife sleep in a separate bed so sex wasn’t implied in any way. The HOA are doing the same thing by making spouses and partners distance themselves to avoid any possible “bad reputation”
You must have a blue duvet. There is no other choice.
You can’t have less than one pillow but the maximum is one. The residents are trapped in a paradox in which perfection cannot be fully achieved
0:41 When the neighbor says “grim” the eerie picture of the tub comes into view.
The tub is… interesting. Based on the end of the video, it seems to be used to remake or rebuild people. So why do regular residents need to use it? I think the tub calms residents down and makes them more open to suggestion. The HOA seems to put blue everywhere, and blue is considered a relaxing hue. That being said, it may have been chosen because its also a majority of people’s favorite color, leading into the assimilation ideas.
0:43 I think this glitch and neighbor’s brief pause is his brain’s natural conditioning the HOA put him through to stop thinking about that particular memory.
0:44 Now this one is really interesting. We see before this you select the newspaper to read. The date is Tuesday, August 14th. However, when initially receiving the pamphlet you could say it said November 2022. The paper looks a bit aged and we don’t know what year its from. So has it been August this whole time or is it really November? We don’t even technically know how many weeks or months have passed since we’re only given days of the week and not the actual dates.
Also, the neighbor is telling you to place the trash can in the morning, but you haven’t made your previous error and placed it early. Is he just reminding you thinking you’ll forget? Why does it feel like you’re being scolded whether you leave it out or not? The HOA cannot be satisfied.
0:47 The newspaper staying the same makes me think, if its new, that papers are delivered Tuesdays
0:50 The HOA infects and censors more of your life, shown by the screen glitching.
Its interesting you can’t read the newspaper because of a canceled subscription. Does this mean the paper really was recent? We don’t know if the paper has been the same this whole time, it may have been updating daily or weekly. So it might be August 14th.
This is notable since the HOA’s news is November 25th. And for all that its worth, in the HOA’s territory, it may as well be November so long as they say so. The residents are completely under their control.
0:55 Its 11:56 pm, very close to midnight. Does midnight count as morning to the HOA? Are you being criticized for being 4 minutes early or not putting your garbage out at a specific time that you have yet (at least that we have seen) been told about?
1:04 I think this glitch is the HOA possibly trying to cut out the memory from you or the neighbor. (Not sure though)
1:06 We only see neighbor’s head, making me think that part was salvaged and put on the new body
1:11 The tub, being used to revitalize the neighbor into his new body
1:15 Its taken me a few watches to realize, but the neighbor is under water/the solution here
1:16 You now have a full trash bag, pretty much proving you still have the body. You could argue the head was new too, but I personally think its the old one.
1:21 This might be an attempt to repress your memory of the neighbor previously, but again I’m not sure.
1:27 The grim expression shows his anger, signaling to me at least he remembers at least part of what happens. That’s why I think the head was preserved. How could a completely new version know anything? Then again maybe the HOA just made him hostile to you after what you did.
Okay, that’s it! Sorry, I veered off into theory territory there. If you have any alternative thoughts or suggestions, please tell me!
this is SOOOO GOOD
At 0:49, right before the subscription gets cancelled, you can briefly see the neighbour's photograph in the paper with the headline "Scientist's Body Discovered in Lake". Did this man invent the bathtub that the HOA might be using to rebuild or recondition their residents? Are they repeatedly bringing the same scientist back to life or are we talking with one of his clones?
I think that the strange sky is the wildfires mentioned by the news. Something I can't understand is the fact that the axe we killed Brian with was *inside* the cookies he gave us. If we rule out the theory that Brian is just really bad at baking/j, this could mean a few things. What I think is that Brian gave it to you so you could do ... something with it? he might have wanted you to kill him (probably not considering the look of unbridled rage his clone gives you), or kill someone else (the axe breaks after killing him), or ?
I'm in Brazil, and everything I've read about HOA makes it sound like a nightmare, especially in the "land of the free" where you get a fine if you forget to mow your lawn for one day.
People don't usually get in discussions about non-intrusive HOAs so that makes sense
@@Lee-fw5bd First they came for the plastic flamingos,

Luckily most neighborhoods don’t have HOAs, it’s mostly suburbs which are already terrible enough as it is
I'm genuinely terrified of the fact that this reminded me of a nonexistent horror game I dreamed about last night.
I would be too
I love how you can pick apart every little detail from the newspaper name to the subtle color changes in the background and still have a horrible feeling that you don’t know the whole story
Literally so relatable. That feeling when your neighbor is being really annoying so you kill him then a wet man moves in in his stead.
Ugh I hate when that happens
BDG managed to capture the Ned Flanders energy but made it just creepy and passive-aggressive enough that I suddenly want this idea to be expanded on
Watch his other videos then. Jorts, work from home, and hats are pretty simillar precursors.
it's like the treehouse of horror episode where ned flanders became supreme leader of the neighbourhood
"I'm usually in bed by ten"
"The light, in your bedroom, is usually on past two"
so he’s in bed but he doesn’t sleep
The way the flow leads you into thinking hes going to say "when I was a kid," but stops because he's a clone and thus never had a childhood, Is the kind of subtle, something-is-right-behind-you horror I love Brian for
god this is so packed with details and worldbuilding and fridge horror. one thing I only caught on like my 5th rewatch (bc that's what bdg's horror vids always prompt, a bajillion rewatches) is the sky. It's just normal blue when the times are morning to noon, but twice (2:04 and 4:56 pm) it gets dark and weird and there's something glowy and orange on the right that looks kind of like a wildfire. the newspaper talks about wildfires. is this something? idk. but there's just so many cool little connections in videos like this I feel like it's gotta be something.
Alright so Easter Eggs and what I think is going on here:
Blue is thematically important:
Required duvet cover is blue
All the door colors allowed are blue
And the revitalizing liquid for the appropriate HoA approved bathroom setup is of course blue
Our friendly neighborhood HoA association member matches the appearance of a scientist who was already found dead according to the news (for which our subscription was swiftly cancelled).
And once our protagonist snaps and puts him to the axe, even while they're still holding the garbage bag full of his remains, a new HoA association member emerges, dripping wet (presumably from their HoA approved glowing blue bath of revitalizing liquid), and stops by to reassure us they're always just down the street. Always.
My current theory is that our scientist stole donation money (also in the news) to fund his research and has managed to clone himself, but the clone revolts and supplants him, hiding his body somewhere. The HoA member appears to bleed blue, and all the other references to blue indicate to me that the revitalizing liquid is the result of the deceased scientist's research, and now spawns clones of him as (probably all of) the terrifying members of this HoA association. It might even be possible that the clones can infiltrate the human body and subsume the original appearance of their host, making them all look like the deceased scientist.
The former mayor also bought and installed a pool on the roof of city hall, possibly related to the cloning vat?
i'm not certain the clone killed the original - he made the cookies, right? so a part of him betrayed its purpose to assist the viewer in killing him, which would suggest something torturous about living after 'revitalisation'. the fear when he says he will 'always' be just down the street also implies that he hates being essentially immortal, hence trying to get himself killed. maybe the scientist had the same idea. or maybe the body that was found was that of a clone and the original is still alive somewhere.
Yeah, I think it's an HOA entirely comprising of clones of the same guy. That's why he can check up on you so frequently, everyone else is also being taken care of by other versions of him.
@@bumblerbree I thought the line at the end was supposed to sound more like a threat to the viewer than a cry for help from the clone but then, why not both?

I'm gonna need confirmation that no Brians, Davids, or Gilberts were harmed in the making of this video
hey why does the bathroom recommendations section have a bathtub with electrical wires in it? silly! someone could get hurt by that! just put the toaster or hairdryer in there directly, no wire nonsense as a potential tripping hazard!
I think they're pod-people, that's why the new neighbor is wet.
@@ReturnOfHeresy yup, at the end we see the bathtub again before the newbie wakes up.
This left me in the typical BDG horror content suspense while watching but at least I could jam out in the meantime
The brief glitch of blue when he says "We haven't watched things like that since I...moved in." when referring to violent shows implies that he was killed before and then got revived in the cloning tub.
BDG you fucking genius.

This timeline is flawed. The news that HOA News that Brian gives out is for November 2022, and the other news article is from 2018 since that was the last time August 14 was on a Tuesday.
@@nathanhampton1863 Yeah, gonna update it now. Though it does seem strange to cancel someone's subscription if the newspaper you worried about is years old?
@@nathanhampton1863 I, personally think the newspaper is from 2023 and the HOA news is old, as it could be part of brainwashing them.
Evidence for the newspaper being accurate to the date and the HOA being wrong is found at 0:34 and 0:51, in which in the background, what looks like a sunset is occuring. However, the times at these timestamps are 2:04 pm and 4:56 pm, which would be too early for sunset, meaning that it's more likely smoke from the fire, which is supported by the fact that this "sunset" is grey with red and orange highlights.
apollo himself is weeping bloody tears of envy that he cant call you his son
People have so deeply unpacked this minute and a half video, but I just wanted to point out that I love how the rules list each neighborhood separately only to write the exact same trash pickup time for all of them
So what's happening is that "Brian" is one of many other Brians in Driscoll Grove which converts others into more Brians. This is implied by the HOA having overly specific rules on what is acceptable, to the point where every house must be the exact same. Same bed sheet fabric, same door color, same trash days, same structure (note all the houses in the background are the exact same) and more importantly same bathrooms. Following the HOA rules would create an exact replica of a typical "Brian home", with the exact same routine to boot. Everything must be the same as Brian, including the residents themselves.
We know that others are being converted into Brians and they aren't clones due to the line at 0:39 and the special emphasis on the "moved in" part. The Brian we're talking to was formerly a regular homeowner that was converted, and still has some residual memory left over (similar to the movie Get Out). The line "moved in" is referring to the conversion to Brian, not moving into Driscoll Grove. There is also still clearly a part of the former person still aware of what's happened to them as the axe used to kill Brian was hidden in the cookies given to us by Brian, which leads to the horrifying realization that the people transformed into Brians see everything Brian does, but are mostly powerless to do anything about it.
The method of transformation is also made clear by the HOA rules on bathrooms, with required features including "correct cabling", "blue nourishing light", and most importantly "revitalizing liquid". The baths are used to convert others into more Brians and to "revitalize" existing Brians, which we know from the decapitated Brian returning to us covered in "revitalizing liquid" and the line at 1:24 emphasizing the "always". You cannot escape the Brians, they will ALWAYS be down the street.
Going into a bit of speculation, we know that the Brians were modeled after the scientist that made them due to the newspaper that was swiftly canceled at 0:49 showing a picture of the original Brian with a headline saying quote: "Scientist's Body Discovered in Lake". It's reasonable to assume that the scientist was attempting to create a machine to revitalize any ill health conditions up to, and including, death (note that the article at 0:47 stating "Researchers Find Genetic Carrier for Alzheimer's" may be related to the scientist's invention). The machine would have worked on the scientist, revitalizing his health and giving the results he wanted, however anybody that he would have tested it on would be converted to an exact genetic copy of him. The new Brian that would be created would have the motivation to kill the original Brian and covert others into himself (whether because of a defect in the scientist's invention, or out of fear of death), which would be how the original Brian gets killed and dumped into a lake while the new Brian starts slowly converting Driscoll Grove into more Brians.

I've been aware of this creator in periphery for a while, but I've never clicked on his channel until now, because I saw his recent collab with Tom Cardy. This is the first video I clicked on to get a taste of this channel, and I didn't look super closely at the video on the first listen, so I was just thinking "oh, a comedy song in a unique style that kind of exaggerates how annoying and controlling HOAs can be, that's pretty fun." It was then quite the shock for me to scroll down and have the first comment read "I noticed that the sound effect at the start of the video is identical to the one played when the clone wakes up from the vat." A very interesting intro to Brian David Gilbert for sure XD
What I think is going on:
The bath is some kind of cloning vat (think a more biological version of the Stepford Wives), and the second Brian is a newly-grown clone, hence the wetness.
Edit: _Or_ someone's overwriting the new arrivals using the baths, perhaps as a way of attaining technical immortality.
Other details.
A scientist (the HOA guy) was found dead in a nearby lake according to the paper, the POV reading it was what prompted the cancellation, presumably so they don’t figure it out, the HOA manual also has instructions for building the revitalisation bath, it’s for “community conduct” and “rejuvenation” which does suggest brainwashing but also resurrection/cloning. Alternatively, the paper also mentions an Alzheimer’s breakthrough in genetics, potentially the bath performs gene therapy, the HOA guy seems to lose his memories after death too.
The HOA guy might not be being brought back by choice, and maybe wants to die, as he gives (us) the axe and provides plenty of murder opportunities by coming over every few minutes, 0:43, is presumably a Freudian slip, he was going to say died.
