I go back & forth like every hour thinking of the Best Actress category 2024. It’s so hard to predict. Both Lily & Emma have things working for & against them. I want Lily Gladstone to win. She is my personal favourite. I loved her performance in KOTFM. She is the one who really emotionally pulled at my heartstrings & I haven’t been able to shake her character Mollie’s story. Standing in a film amongst Hollywood stars like Robert DeNiro & Leonardo DiCaprio & outshining them is no easy feat. Lily owned that film. I think it’s fine her being in Lead category. She’s one of the 3 mains. Lesser screen time has won in the past like Anthony Hopkins. And KOTFM surrounds Mollie’s life, her family, her town, her people. Without her the film would not work. Also Lily is in it throughout. It’s not like she’s in a little of the beginning & briefly at the end… her scenes are sprinkled throughout the 3 1/2 hour runtime. So she felt very present in it to me & you crave more from her on screen. I think that’s a triumph. I truly dislike the whole narrative excuses. I think a performance should win on performance alone. But I can’t deny when I think of Lily winning I think about the Indigenous community & little kids looking up at Lily… what it would mean to them to see her win. Just like I don’t think Emma Stone should be counted out because she has already won an Oscar. History is on her side that she could win again as many have in the past. Emma gives a truly brave, unique, technical achievement performance. While I didn’t overly like Poor Things… I did find Emma to be very impressive in it. It’s a risky role & she went all in. She has the most wins of the season. She’s clearly a beloved actress in the industry. And on behalf of Emma Stone fans… as a Cillian Murphy fan, I think I would be mightily pissed if Cillian lost at the Oscars after all he’s won. The momentum he has. Emma is so similar in that regard. To lose the big one at the last second when the awards have been in your favour would be gut wrenching. It’s incredibly hard to call. But I’m sticking with Lily Gladstone. Same reason as Luke’s reasons for picking Emma. My gut instinct says Lily. From the Golden Globes I’ve just had this feeling she’ll be taking pictures with Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr & Da’Vine Joy Randolph after the ceremony.
Oh Luke, I love you, man. I don’t think I’ve ever seen myself reflected so perfectly in a RUclipsr as I do with you in this video. I’m also rather tortured as to who in the world will win the best actress Oscar. Every word you said is basically what’s going through my head ever since Gladstone won the SAG award. I can easily see the frustration you’re going through in trying to call the race. I too can’t really make up my mind, but I don’t have the pressure of recording it for RUclips. So for this I greatly admire and respect you. This is easily the most tough to call race I’ve gone through in many years. Can’t remember the last time any major Oscar race was this much of a quandary. We shall see. I really hope Emma Stone’s name is in that envelope 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
Great video, Also, kudos on your pronunciation of Sandra Hüller's last name. You're one of the few English speakers who pronounces it pretty closely to how you would pronounce it in German. I've heard some people pronounce it as Sandra "Holler" or Sandra "Hiuler".
One other factor for Lily you did not consider. She received a very loud standing ovation at the SAG which means she REALLY has the support of her peers. That is really tipping it for me. Also, a side note: I don’t think supporting vs lead is that big of a deal. Look at Olivia Colman… people felt she was more supporting and she still won. Unlike the Olivia and Glenn year, both films are in best picture.
Exactly! Not only that, performances with WAY shorter screen times have won Best Actress: - Particia Neal in HUD (the record for shortest ever screen time in minutes to ever win, at just 21 minutes and 51 seconds) - Louise Fletcher for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (shortest by percentage at roughly 16% and second shortest by total screen time at 22 minutes and 37 seconds) - Nicole Kidman in THE HOURS (only 23 minutes and 30 seconds, the third shortest ever to win) - Frances McDormand in FARGO (she in fact does not appear on screen until about midway through the movie, and hers is 4th shortest ever at 26 minutes and 29 seconds) and many more! Lily Gladstone's is way longer than all of those.
@@axr7149 yes lily has close to 57 minutes of screen time. there is a reason why she won so many critic awards over emma this season. so lily's performance is no slouch. oscar voters are fully aware of her native american herritage, and here is a rare opportunity for the oscars to make history just like they made history for halle berry and michelle yeoh, and soon lily gladstone with join both of them.
If they don't wanna give emma stone the oscar because she has won before in the past, then they should give Sandra huller. Sandra was 2 best picture nominations zone of interest and anatomy of a fall.
Wonderful deep dive discussion about this category. You even covered the element of the Oscar voting window, which could be decisive in this race. I love how Carey Mulligan is always putting out excellent work. I'm in the minority here, but I loved Annette Bening's performance. It was towering indeed. Lily Gladstone was great, but I've always viewed it as a supporting performance, and I wonder if that will hurt her. Didn't know she was under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. Which letter is it, if someone knows? Emma Stone might be the exact example of an actor who doesn't win for their mightiest role (assuming she loses the Oscar in March). Sandra Huller was fantastic, and I would be thrilled if she won. You can't go wrong with any of them, especially Huller, Stone, or Gladstone. In the end, I think this will be the year of subtle yet powerful performances (i.e., Cillian, Da'Vine, and Lily). That is my prediction not necessarily my personal preference.
The Academy Awards voters do not always prefer flashy performances from actors and actresses. The legendary Katherine Hepburn won four Best Actress Oscars for her subtle and restrained performances. In the case of Emma Stone, her acting appears to be noticeable on screen, while Lilly Gladstone's natural and restrained performance stands out without appearing like acting at all. Lily Gladstone will win Best Actress.
Yes, she was. She didn't have to overact or try very hard. Katherine Hepburn was a natural and the greatest actress in the history of cinema and Hollywood. No other actress or actor has won four Oscars for Best Actor or Actress except for Katherine Hepburn. The only actress to come close is Francis McDormand who won three Oscars for Best Actress and one for producing Nomadland. @@Zuranthium
@@ljbx8 sure but that’s not gonna happen. She won no precursors. I’m talking about the two front runners. And even with Sandra I would take Emma any day
Yep totally agree that there’s a small chance for Sandra Hüller if votes are split between Lily and Emma, it wouldn’t be the first time!! Btw, Sandra didn’t "miss" the SAG nomination, she’s not a SAG member and didn’t qualify!
Pretty much this. Sadly, lastly, people are voting like sheep. Stone was also fantastic, but she is young, and she won before, which will hurt her chances(it shouldn't, but it will). Also, Lily, while great in the 1st half, kind of fades away in the 2nd half of the movie. She is shown countless of times being ill in bed, nothing more.
Cheers mate, yeah I’ll be happy either way but I’m just going with my gut on this one. My gut has been right and wrong before but I tend to listen to it where I can. X
I have to stick up for all of the Best Actress nominees, even Annette Bening. I know Nyad wasn't a very good movie, and I guess people are bashing her performance as too showy and Oscar-bate, but I really did feel that Bening did capture the spirit and essence of Diana Nyad. Was she "acting out loud"? Yeah, but since when do we care as paying movie-goers if a performer gives us their all for the price of our ticket? All acting can't be subtle looks of the eyes and tiny little quivers of emotion. Bening delivered exactly what the movie required of her. Just to point out a few winners that took home best actress that were good performances in so-so or not very good movies: Jessica Chastain - The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, Renee Zellweger - Judy, Juliane Moore - Still Alice, Meryl Streep - The Iron Lady, Jessica Lange - Blue Sky (and talk about acting out loud). I remember on one of Siskel and Ebert's Memo To The Academy specials were Gene tried to champion James Woods for best actor in John Carpenter's Vampires because he was so enamored by Woods' energy and commitment to the role. Roger asked him, "yeah but if you want to nominate James Woods don't you want to nominate him for a better movie?" to which Gene replied, "No I don't care about the movie I care about the performance, it's called best performance by an actor". This always stuck with me. Of course my choice is Emma Stone without a doubt, but it's going to hurt watching Annette Bening sitting in the crowd losing another Oscar and watching her try to be happy for the winner.
range? Versatility? She plays the same Emma Stone overacting role in every movie.... Just because she acted like a baby in parts of this one it shows range?
@@HumbleGrindershe literally goes through 5 stages through out the movie. Changing her physicality, tone of voice, and her vocabulary. Even her eyes expression is different from the beginning and throughout the whole movie. It’s a complete arc evolution of the character, both physically and internally once she’s fully developed.
@@elenagarcia6307lmao she went from talking like a baby to a toddler to a teen to an adult and you want to give her an Oscar for that! Insulting to say that is Emma's best work just because she is a producer and campaigning the film. She is much better than that and Lily's role went much beyond anything Bella Baxter did
Disagree, I heard someone say Stone’s acting is all physicality & slap-stick acting, little to no emotion, and I hate to agree. Whereas Lily’s performance is all emotion, invokes sympathy & pathos. Both are amazing but let’s not act like your opinion is objectively right. Plus Bella crying in Alexandra was so devoid of any real emotion, it was so comical which works for Poor Things but pales in comparison to Lily’s pained performance!
Question: How many times have 2 favorites lost, and made room for the third choice to win the Oscar? This whole splitting votes and allowing someone else to win thing.
It does seem odd to me that we keep comparing a Lily Gladstone nomination or win to Michelle Yeoh when Emma Stone is a better comparison… a actresss giving a much showier and in your face performance in a genre film
Well, we’re comparing their awards season journeys - in terms of the awards that they’ve both collected. 😊When it comes to performances I would say Stone has more in common with Yeoh for sure. Who do you think will win? X
@@LukeHearfield I actually think Stone is going to win. Excluding SAG, her performance and Poor Things in general just seems like it has a lot of energy behind it right now. Where as Killers Of The Flower Moon doesn’t seem to be getting the same attention, even with the nominations. The SAG win could even be something of a consolation prize, for lack of better words, because people see that Emma is take the Oscar
@LukeHearfield Really good analysis esp. comparing Lily Gladstone to Michelle Yeoh. I think you hit all the relevant points and threw in one I was unaware of (when Oscar voting begins). Do you think they should start Oscar voting after SAG awards?
Not comparable. Yeohs' movie had more passion, she had more of a career narrative where Lily is relatively new and her movie is fading. Also, Emma is in the more liked move while Cate Blanchett was in the least liked movie.
Idc what anyone says, The Emma Stone hype comes from people who think Best acting = the most acting. Lily Gladstone or Sandra Huller for the win! Both performances are masterclasses in subtlety and emotional depth.
Not every role calls for subtlety.....Stone's journey as Bella Baxter was compelling and credible.....I also very much appreciated Gladstone in her role, but I'd give Stone the edge
@@MrDLOCSaunders absolutely 😁 but I love how Gladstone and Stone have been this awards season - lifting each other up, exchanging gem stones and always gracious when each other wins something 😁 xx
emma stone surprised me with her acting in poor things.. it would feel odd knowing that emma stone got an oscar for la la land but not poor things for future audience 😅
I do think poor things is her best performance to date so I’d love to see her win a second for this. But if Gladstone or hüller wins I’ll still be thrilled cause they’re all deserving winners. X
"A little bit?" (You said it twice.) Emma Stone's performance was "a LITTLE bit" showier? (Did you watch the same two movies I saw?) Emma Stone's performance was WILD!! Lily Gladstone's performance was quiet and stoic. ("A little bit" showier???) Sandra Huller was wonderful. (She's not going to win.)
You sure go on about Annette Benning. She transformed herself into a whole new physical being and it certainly informed her performance. Athletes are different from you and me.
I actually don’t dislike Bening’s performance, I admire the training and preparation she did for the role. And she has some great moments in the film where I truly felt for her. I felt her joy when she completed her goal. I just think the movie overall was a let down and that it felt like a film trying very hard to be Oscars recognition. I do think there were better lead actress performances this year than Benings that deserved an Oscar nomination more (mainly Greta Lee for Past Lives) - but I don’t hold it against Bening for getting the nomination. Again the nom is the victory for her I’d say. X
Anthony Hopkins won the best actor category for Silence of the Lambs and he was only in 17 minutes of screen time. I don't put too much stock in Lily being in 56 minutes of screen time in KOTFM as a disqualifier for her lead actress nomination.
Killers of the Flower Moon is a much longer movie than The Silence of the Lambs though. The Silence of the Lambs is about 2 hours long while Killers of the Flower Moon is almost 3 hours and 30 minutes long.
@@laurajones1773yeah, Hopkins was still in it for 17 minutes. That means he was only on screen for 14% of his movie. Lily was on screen for 31% of hers.
I saw poor things and I was blown away by what I saw. Emma stone doing full frontal nudity multiple times, I started becoming worried for her. The costumes, the visual effects, the set design, the sound design, everything about poor things was perfect. I wanted the film to be longer
In other words, it is truly a toss up. lol. One thing to mention about the whole Lead/supporting thing... a lot of people thought Olivia Colman belonged in Supporting, but she went Lead and ended up winning, and she was her movie's only win. Hmmm...
Gangs of New York. Another Scorsese film that went 0 for 10 at the Oscars. Killers would be his third film to go 0 for 10 if Lily Gladstone loses. That would be history and a record that will never be broken.
@@LukeHearfield Lily Gladstone. :) Here are a few more stones to turn: It's high order to win a second *lead* Oscar so "soon" after. Yes, others have done it recently, but most have done so b/c their film was on its way to winning BP, which PT is not. KOTFM is too "important" (for the U.S. based voters) to go home empty-handed. I would be judicious when putting too much weight on BAFTA acting wins, especially when there's a British bias element (Stone is playing and British character). And as you mentioned, Gladstone not nominated there is b/c of the weird jury system. She's not top 3, but we don't know if she wasn't top 5 (then normally she would be nominated). The reaction in the SAG room when Lily won said a lot. Most of which was Emma's exuberance. Voters wouldn't feel bad not voting for Stone, given how they witnessed her not at all disappointed. :) Winning an acting Oscar is not all about performance, but it's who the members want to see up on the stage accepting the award. Lily would represent a people (Americans) who were oppressed and underrepresented in their history. Yes, her role was small, but when you think of KOFTM you think of her first and foremost, not the yapping DiCaprio and DeNiro who people would rather put out of their mind.
Lily Gladstone needs to happen. I wouldn’t be mad with either outcome though. If it was a different year Sandra would have this Oscar in the bag her performance in “Anatomy Of A Fall” was so emotionally nuanced and intense. People say that Sandra reminds them of Cate Blanchett sis reminds of Toni Collette in “Hereditary”.
There are a number of ways that this could split to give any of Lily Gladstone, Sandra Huller & Emma Stone the Oscar. My theory gives Lily Gladstone the win. With vote splitting, a margin of less than 1% could give someone the advantage. Any small factors could give someone the edge. Fact #1 - Lily Gladstone won SAG. Actors make up the largest component of the Academy. This benefits Lily Gladstone regardless of the margin she won the SAG by. Fact #2 - International voter split. Sandra Huller & Emma Stone are in movies that appeal more to International voters (evident by BAFTA nominations & wins). They will split International votes since there are 2 performances to vote for; giving each less overall total votes - this benefits Lily Gladstone. Fact #3 - Regardless of the number of voters that think this way, diversity & inclusion can matter. These voters can reward Lily Gladstone with an historic Oscar win, adding to her margin of victory. These 3 factors together I think will propel Lily Gladstone over the top.
I looked at the data and it turns out that the Screen Actors Guild has never had the four major acting awards overlap for three consecutive years. In 2022 and 2023, the four major acting awards overlapped for two consecutive years. This is the third year.
Lily Gladstone’s performance is my favorite performance of 2023. It is enough of a lead performance to be in that category. If that’s not argument enough, Killers of the Flower Moon is a top Scorsese movie, and I would hate for it join the ranks of The Irishman and The Wolf of Wall Street and go home empty handed. I am not even mentioning the history making aspect or the fact that Emma Stone is a previous winner - Lily Gladstone’s performance is a clear Best Actress win for me!
No comparison with Yeoh. Beloved and OVERDUE for 20+ years. Center of BP of year and dominates it. Terrific range. 1st Asian woman nommed for lead. Lily: 1st indigenous actor nommed but has limited screen time (supporting) and lack of range. No comparison. Lily win will be for narrative. Does that alone qualify for best actress in a leading performance? Hüller best in drama, Stone in comedic. Gladstone a very distant 5, Mulligan/Bening better LEAD performance for #4
@@mgariepy42 respectfully, I think the supporting argument is very weak IMO. Far shorter performances (both percentage wise and screen time wise) have won here, from Patricia Neal (who won for a 21-minute performance in HUD) to Frances McDormand in FARGO (who doesn’t appear until halfway) etc. There’s even Olivia Colman among recent winners. As a matter of fact, Gladstone won’t even be among the top ten shortest ever should she win (on the other hand, Cillian Murphy have the 3rd longest ever screen time among best actor winners should he prevail (only Charlton Heston's BEN-HUR and Daniel Day-Lewis's THERE WILL BE BLOOD will be longer)).
There’s plenty of legendary performances that haven’t won - I’d even put Cate Blanchett for Tár in there 😁 But who knows Stone *could still win - it’s not over yet. X
The real best actress of 2023/2024 is the german #SandraHüller 🇩🇪 Her performance in "Anatomy of a Fall" and "The Zone of Interest" is simply of another planet 😮 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Stone and Gladstone are favorites because one lonely reason. Both are "americans" 🇺🇲 And nothing more 👎🏻
The difference is Emma's role is a lead role while Lily's role is a supporting role. The only reaspn why people should win an award is based on their performance, nothing else.
You are thinking in terms of screen time. Narratively, Mollie Burkhart is front and center in KOTFM and has carries just as much as weight in the narrative as Ernest even tho the movie primarily follows him.
@@yourgoblinsecretary3842 If the movie follows you, then you are the lead. If you are seen in a perspective in the movie then most likely you are a supporting role.
Fraud move, they aware her “strong narrative” will be important for voters, that’s why they put her in lead. I’m not ok with that. This awards have already lost credibility in many ways. But with this it’s over for me if narrative wins, not actual achievements in acting but REPRESENTATION! If this was about acting she would’ve be in supporting category, no questions about her would be a thing(what wrong with that? There is so many examples of amazing actors and characters winning there). I have nothing against Lily, but she herself campaigning as diverse contender, she’s doing Kidman move knowing she has big argument behind her. Politics not art!
Best actor ه 👀 👀 👀 Baul jiamatii ♥♥♥ I dont despirte he lose the oscar. And best actross category have three piopic Carry muligan in maystroe Annete benning in nyad ( diana ned) Lilly gladston in ( the killer of flower moon). The only piopic have big chance to win ( lilly gladston ). The best in lilly gladston Not the long time in screen The best in lilly gladston case Her acting soooo good. If they will give her oscar The mean reasion She act soooo good Not she act sooooo long. To me : Best actor Paul jiamatii. I will feel sad if he lose. But still think he can win. Best actross If lilly gladston win i will be happy But i will feel sad for emma stone losing. And if emma stone win i will be happy for emme But i will be sad for lilly. If sandra win and that mybe happend Even if she lose in comption with emma in bafta. And she lose in golden globe in comption in (golden globe ). But she deserve to win.
Bella Baxter is the greatest female character in movie history. Lilly Gladstone wasn't even a lead role but I'm sure Gladstone will win. Oscar are a joke
Luise Rainer, Patricia Neal, Louise Fletcher, Nicole Kidaman, Frances McDormand, and Olivia Colman all won lead actress Oscars for supporting performances. So, Lily Gladstone's win wouldn't be such a big deal.
Gladstone will win because it gives Oscars a chance to reward a native american. Why is this significant? Well, the very first & only oscar to ever go to a native American indigeous person was in 1981 when Buffy st marie WON for best song Love Lift Us To Where We Belong fom An Officer & A Gentleman. The problem is that last year Buffy has been revealed to be a pretendian - someone pretending to be a native American!! This huge scandal has rocked all first Nation communities so a win for Gladstone would be a way to correct this honor going to a real native American.
PLEASE LILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please not Emma. She lacked all around depth & the film was flawed no matter what the trendy Matrix pop culture says
If Sandra Huller wins, it would be richly deserving. Although she was not nominated in SAG, the international voting members have largely increased in the Oscars in the last few years, many even yeo to three years since. BAFTA was more English speaking voters rather than international voters. Dandra' Huller's performance I classify it in the likes of Meryl Streep in Sophie:s Choice and Elizabeth Taylor in Who:d Afraid of Virginia Wolf? Frankly speaking I think zrmma Stone should not woon for that quirky role with less of the human element than Olivia:s performance in The Favourite - her intense libido desires causing her 15:30 moods swing. And Lily Gladstone Is simply too wooden in her acting or her role does not give her much chance to show off her creative talent. Even Crash such a lousy show manage to give a chance to each cast to show off their depth of emotion. Sandra Huller's win would age well. By the way Michelle Yeoh's performance has a lot of heart although it is a comedic role which I do not see in Lily Gladstone or Emma Stone. Sandra Huller yes And her performance has the fieriiness of Elizabeth Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? And the emotional welling of Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice. She is also didactic in some parts of her dialogue delivery but not all unlike Cate Blanchett in Tar and Danielle Deadwyller's Till. Academy voters do not like actress performances which is 100 percent didactic or bombastic - just a straight off delivery of the dialogue. Danielle only did well in the court case scene where she was very touching. Emma Stone's emotional performance scene is drowned out by her comedic scenes. Plus you would not usually sympathize an inanimate object that came to life who cried because it cannot deal with life. Also Sandra Juller is somolar to Marion Cotillard a foreign language actress and Marion did not win at SAG but she was nominated but like I mentioned earlier on this does not matter. Marion won at BAFTA which was the last precursor award before the Oscars. Through the same reason, I also mentioned it foes not matter thos last two to three years. 23:06
I still don’t know why Emma Stone was even nominated for La La Land never mind winning! She was not top 5 that year. She’s definitely top 5 this year but for her to have two Oscar’s would be ridiculous

- Particia Neal in HUD (the record for shortest ever screen time in minutes to ever win, at just 21 minutes and 51 seconds)
- Louise Fletcher for ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (shortest by percentage at roughly 16% and second shortest by total screen time at 22 minutes and 37 seconds)
- Nicole Kidman in THE HOURS (only 23 minutes and 30 seconds, the third shortest ever to win)
- Frances McDormand in FARGO (she in fact does not appear on screen until about midway through the movie, and hers is 4th shortest ever at 26 minutes and 29 seconds)
and many more!
Olivia Colman was definitely a co-lead in The Favourite. Lily is a borderline supporting character in kotfm.
@@nafischowdhury7375 what about the other examples above?
@@nafischowdhury7375 screen time does not decide lead or supporting. movie studios decide that when they promote their movies to the academy.
Go Emma. Best performance of 2023 and great not pandering speeches!
SAG disagrees!
@@Fallen616 Critics Choice and BAFTA agree!
Thank you for the kind and insightful comment. ❤
Sandra Huller for the win
The Academy Awards voters do not always prefer flashy performances from actors and actresses. The legendary Katherine Hepburn won four Best Actress Oscars for her subtle and restrained performances. In the case of Emma Stone, her acting appears to be noticeable on screen, while Lilly Gladstone's natural and restrained performance stands out without appearing like acting at all. Lily Gladstone will win Best Actress.
Hepburn was not a subtle actress.
Hopefully the academy makes the right choice and Emma Stone wins!
the rigbt choice would be sandra huller
@@ljbx8 sure but that’s not gonna happen. She won no precursors. I’m talking about the two front runners. And even with Sandra I would take Emma any day
Yep totally agree that there’s a small chance for Sandra Hüller if votes are split between Lily and Emma, it wouldn’t be the first time!! Btw, Sandra didn’t "miss" the SAG nomination, she’s not a SAG member and didn’t qualify!
Sandra Huller is going to win
HIGHLY unlikely. It’d be cool though…
God I would love to see that happen 🤞🏻😁🤞🏻 obvs I’m not convinced it will happen but nobody will be happier than me if she does win at this point. X
I would like Sandra Huller win, or Emma Stone
Me too! I don't think Lily Gladstone is winning because Killers of the Flower Moon might going home empty handed
if it was rewarded solely on acting merit, Sandra Huller would be winning hands down.
No! The battle for Best Actress is between Stone or Gladstone
Nice explanation for your choice. Gotta go with your gut. My gut says Lily, for history and Emma has already won.
Cheers mate, yeah I’ll be happy either way but I’m just going with my gut on this one. My gut has been right and wrong before but I tend to listen to it where I can. X
Remember: Yorgos’s last film won just 1 Oscar… Best Actress.
So will be again for Poor Things (another Yorgos Lanthimos movie) to win 1 Oscar or 2 Oscars
@@dariussalepetru6770 At least 2, I think!
EFX is all it deserves
Emma Stone has the BEST leading performance with range and versatility. If she doesn’t win it will be a travesty.
She is much better than that and Lily's role went much beyond anything Bella Baxter did
@@HumbleGrinderlol No
Disagree, I heard someone say Stone’s acting is all physicality & slap-stick acting, little to no emotion, and I hate to agree.
EMMAAAA
Sandra Huller but they won't give it to her.
Question: How many times have 2 favorites lost, and made room for the third choice to win the Oscar? This whole splitting votes and allowing someone else to win thing.
The best example I can come up with is Adrian Brody coming from seemingly nowhere to win best actor over Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day Lewis in 2003.
Another example is Marcia Gay Harden’s Oscar win. That is a divided race that year.
@@laurajones1773 Do you recall who the 2 favorites were that year?
@@brickellrich1 Ok, so it’s very rare, but possible. I guess this is what some are hoping for, in favor of Sandra Hüller over Emma and Lily.
There was no clear frontrunner that year. There was a different winner in different awards shows including the Oscar.
I am calling it and It’s going to be Lily . But I’ll go for Sandra if i could vote ❤
Great analysis here! 👍
Thank you Julie 😁 who do you think is gonna win best actress? X
@LukeHearfield I WANT it to be Lily 😊 She was my favorite performance of 2023🤩🤩
It does seem odd to me that we keep comparing a Lily Gladstone nomination or win to Michelle Yeoh when Emma Stone is a better comparison… a actresss giving a much showier and in your face performance in a genre film
Imagine we get a tie between Lily Gladstone & Emma Stone both winning the Oscars this year? The internet would lose it!
Lilly Gladstone should be win the Oscar
Idc what anyone says, The Emma Stone hype comes from people who think Best acting = the most acting. Lily Gladstone or Sandra Huller for the win! Both performances are masterclasses in subtlety and emotional depth.
Not every role calls for subtlety.....Stone's journey as Bella Baxter was compelling and credible.....I also very much appreciated Gladstone in her role, but I'd give Stone the edge
Give an award to Annette she is a really good swimmer, so acting swimming 🏊 😂
“OK!” - 😊
When Lily won the SAG, Emma Stone's reaction was a genuine happy one...which voters might take as permission to vote for Gladstone for the Oscar.
Another excellent point. X
Emma clearly overreacted to lily’s sag win
Emma is gracious 😊
@@MrDLOCSaunders absolutely 😁 but I love how Gladstone and Stone have been this awards season - lifting each other up, exchanging gem stones and always gracious when each other wins something 😁 xx
Who cares LILY was better
emma stone surprised me with her acting in poor things..
it would feel odd knowing that emma stone got an oscar for la la land but not poor things for future audience 😅
I do think poor things is her best performance to date so I’d love to see her win a second for this. But if Gladstone or hüller wins I’ll still be thrilled cause they’re all deserving winners. X
Surprised me too in a bad way
EMMA
"A little bit?" (You said it twice.)
Emma Stone's performance was "a LITTLE bit" showier?
(Did you watch the same two movies I saw?) Emma Stone's performance was WILD!! Lily Gladstone's performance was quiet and stoic. ("A little bit" showier???)
Sandra Huller was wonderful. (She's not going to win.)
Hahahaha fair point. It is quite raunchy. Who do you think is going to win? X
Okay? Okay 🫶
Frustrates me because I believe Sandra gave easily the best performance in the category.
Casey Affleck lost SAG to Denzel but still won the Oscar in the end , so Emma's chances are NOT dead yet , despite they went slightly lower ...
BAFTA was after SAG at that point though.
I was so underblown other than it was pretty
In other words, it is truly a toss up. lol. One thing to mention about the whole Lead/supporting thing... a lot of people thought Olivia Colman belonged in Supporting, but she went Lead and ended up winning, and she was her movie's only win. Hmmm...
Gangs of New York. Another Scorsese film that went 0 for 10 at the Oscars. Killers would be his third film to go 0 for 10 if Lily Gladstone loses. That would be history and a record that will never be broken.
Scorsese all the time take deep supject and story but he make it so light and comedy so he lose when he must make the story dark
The Irishman as well got 0 wins
Very very thorough. You left no Stone unturned.
Wheeeeeeeeeey! 😆👏🏻 is see what you did there hehe. Very nice. Thanks for watching. Who do you think is winning Best Actress? X
It's possible that Sandra will take some international votes away from Emma (BAFTA winner) which would help Lilly.
Very true. We will just have to wait and see the outcome and then figure out the reasons why they won. X
I have a feeling that Emma & Lily could tie. Idk why but that would be so cool
Emma Stone needs to happen.
🤭
I’ve seen people bring up the Marlon Brando little feather incident on what it he wild of lily won
You are so good in giving both sides of the narrative that I think you must be a Libra.
Hahahaha you are bang on the money. I am in fact a Libra ♎️😁👍🏼
Annette bening ..oscar
Honestly, wouldn't count Hueller out This to me is a 3 way race.
It would be fun if she ends up winning. Honestly I thought her performance was the best among those 5.
Adrien Brody 2002 👀

If you are seen in a perspective in the movie then most likely you are a supporting role.
emma stone will definitely win the oscar's for best actress...u
That’s what I’ve predicted but I genuinely can see it going to Gladstone just as easily. We shall see in a few days time x

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but I don't consider Lily Gladstone as lead. If Sandra Huller wins, though, it'd be ecstatic for me.
Exactly that's my point@@kirkreid743
Thats the most wrong statement in history
Gladstone will win because it gives Oscars a chance to reward a native american. Why is this significant? Well, the very first & only oscar to ever go to a native American indigeous person was in 1981 when Buffy st marie WON for best song Love Lift Us To Where We Belong fom An Officer & A Gentleman.
The problem is that last year Buffy has been revealed to be a pretendian - someone pretending to be a native American!! This huge scandal has rocked all first Nation communities so a win for Gladstone would be a way to correct this honor going to a real native American.
Lead Actress is definitely the most competitive of the the acting awards, but this did not need to be a 36 minute video!
Then don't watch

Sandra Huller yes
And her performance has the fieriiness of Elizabeth Taylor in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?

I think even Emma wants Lily to win
I hope so. She knows so
Should win emma stone but will win lily gladstone
I still don’t know why Emma Stone was even nominated for La La Land never mind winning! She was not top 5 that year. She’s definitely top 5 this year but for her to have two Oscar’s would be ridiculous
But apostrophes don’t make plural so she’s definitely deserving of having two.
