My pops did this when we first started hitting the gym, he looked lost and kind of just sat at machines. He was feeling overwhelmed and nervous, all he needed was a workout buddy to take his mind off of everything. Once I got him used to a program he took off, the mad lad gained so much muscle and he has never been more confident. If you see an elder doing this in your gym, he is just overwhelmed by everything and wondering if it is even worth it. Be nice to them.

Word. I'm in my mid 30's, and I don't even go to the gym just because I'd be too embarrassed compared to the people going there all the time. So, just making it to the gym is already something to be encouraged. He probably just needs a little more time. Exactly. When I first started working out I used to watch people just to see their form and how they were using the machines. There's so many machines in big gyms and I had no idea what everything was for and didn't want to look like an idiot roaming around tinkering with stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I feel bad for women having to deal with creepy men and understand that it can be scary for women when walking on the streets because some men are terrible and no one knows who those men are. I work with women in a retail job and I've seen creepy men stalk women but yeah. This old man did nothing wrong. And I also had a woman tell me how much she you know when she has sex out of nowhere which grossed me out. Also I serve certain women who will become flirty to try and get discounts off. One even tried getting me use my staff discount card for her by flirting with me... Didn't work. I also worked with a very good looking tall man with big arms and he got quite a few creepy attention from women. Some women would start touching his arms without his consent, one woman told him that her mother wants to have sex with him which made him stare in awkard silence and I worked with a woman who would Constantly stare at his behind. Also this woman I worked with would Constantly check out, follow and stare at male customers she thought were attractive and tell everyone how much she finds them attractive. So, creepy behaviour isn't just exclusive to men. I've witness creepy behaviour from women firsthand

Yeah, I've noticed older dudes like this before. Hopping from machine to machine figuring how things work, what to do, how to properly do it etc Hell, that was me a few years ago when I first went to a gym. Just let people do their thing without putting them on blast, unless they're genuinely creeping.
I just started working out after like 30 years. i'd look the same as that guy trying to figure out the machines by looking at how other people are using them, then going and trying a few. then deciding oh I guess I should do x,y,z machine for my legs. luckily my gym is small so there's no tiktokers or the like creeping around. Most of the time I dont ask for help simply because I dont want to bother people trying to work out. If she was so concerned she could have simply gone to the guy and said hey you okay? then she would know if he waiting, trying to figure it out, wants to talk someones ear off or just oogling at people.
When you are injured and need rehab or occupational therapy, insurance usually pays for two to four weeks but most patients need MONTHS of rehab. So, we (injured rehab patients) go to the gym. Personal trainers have similar training and techniques as rehab and occupational therapists. And most of the patients aren't young like me. Most of them are elderly.

I worked at a LA fitness for a few years, older ppl came in a lot. This was one man tho: older skinny man, hair white as snow with a white T shirt to match, blue jeans and white sneakers. He came in maybe did 10 mins of cardio, then stayed in the gym for hours wondering. Came to find out it was because his wife passed and he didn’t like being alone.

Xeno, I appreciate this post more than you could possibly know. In my teen years I studied martial arts. Now in my 50's and battling my weight, I joined a new local Jujitsu and kick boxing gym. The small gym held classes for children that were combined with the women's classes. Some of the mothers that would sit and watch complained about me. I was to old, too slow and over weight. Therefore, I didn't belong. I had lost 10 lbs and was working hard. Then I was taped without my permission and posted to the website of the gym. I was humiliated and quit. My husband built me a small duplicate of the gym in the basement. I am trying to continue but it's not the same. People are selfish and cruel.

Exactly. When I first started working out I used to watch people just to see their form and how they were using the machines. There's so many machines in big gyms and I had no idea what everything was for and didn't want to look like an idiot roaming around tinkering with stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I feel bad for women having to deal with creepy men and understand that it can be scary for women when walking on the streets because some men are terrible and no one knows who those men are. I work with women in a retail job and I've seen creepy men stalk women but yeah. This old man did nothing wrong.
I think people pay a lot of attention on creepy men that some people forget that certain women can be just as mean and nasty as the men.
Plus, as someone who works in retail. I've also seen creepy behaviour from women towards me and my male Co workers. It just sadly happens to women more often but I've had my ass slapped by a female customer, one woman will literally follow me around the store at times staring and smiling at me whilst not saying much (feel like I'm being watched nonstop when she's about) , I've had a older woman get her child son to ask for my number on her behalf, had 2 female customers ask for my number when it's not necessary because I'm a service worker and am expeced to he nice to all customers and also been cat called by a drunk woman who shouted "Hey sexy" when she came in the store. And I also had a woman tell me how much she you know when she has sex out of nowhere which grossed me out. Also I serve certain women who will become flirty to try and get discounts off. One even tried getting me use my staff discount card for her by flirting with me... Didn't work.
I also worked with a very good looking tall man with big arms and he got quite a few creepy attention from women. Some women would start touching his arms without his consent, one woman told him that her mother wants to have sex with him which made him stare in awkard silence and I worked with a woman who would Constantly stare at his behind. Also this woman I worked with would Constantly check out, follow and stare at male customers she thought were attractive and tell everyone how much she finds them attractive.
So, creepy behaviour isn't just exclusive to men. I've witness creepy behaviour from women firsthand

I just started working out after like 30 years. i'd look the same as that guy trying to figure out the machines by looking at how other people are using them, then going and trying a few. then deciding oh I guess I should do x,y,z machine for my legs. luckily my gym is small so there's no tiktokers or the like creeping around. Most of the time I dont ask for help simply because I dont want to bother people trying to work out.

I worked at a LA fitness for a few years, older ppl came in a lot. This was one man tho: older skinny man, hair white as snow with a white T shirt to match, blue jeans and white sneakers. He came in maybe did 10 mins of cardio, then stayed in the gym for hours wondering. Came to find out it was because his wife passed and he didn’t like being alone.

Xeno, I appreciate this post more than you could possibly know. In my teen years I studied martial arts. Now in my 50's and battling my weight, I joined a new local Jujitsu and kick boxing gym. The small gym held classes for children that were combined with the women's classes. Some of the mothers that would sit and watch complained about me. I was to old, too slow and over weight. Therefore, I didn't belong. I had lost 10 lbs and was working hard. Then I was taped without my permission and posted to the website of the gym. I was humiliated and quit. My husband built me a small duplicate of the gym in the basement. I am trying to continue but it's not the same. People are selfish and cruel.

And it might probably his first time in a gym and doesn't have any idea how or what to do in any of those machines as there is no one that's assisting him, checking the surrounding how the others use the tools and machine to maybe try it next and get to know how it works. Pretty sure the old man doesn't even know how social media works now so he is basically unaware that he's been called a creep by a random girl that didn't get his attention cause she herself doesn't even do any workout in the gym so he can't learn how the machines work.
