I have a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TDI ..and has P0405 issue(with check engine on dashboard), with an EGR emulator the issue disappears, no issue on performance but the negatives such as some stalling on light acceleration occur if the EGR Emulator is on. I'd prefer for a proper fix. The P0405 means the valve is probably stuck closed right?

Dear EvroNetwork, probably the Egr-valve has to be replaced. Probably it is full of soot and mud or stuck. What is the running performance of the vehicle and was it moved rather short distances?🚗

    Hi,
What are the physical symptoms of a faulty EGR valve ?
I am interested in this as I have a Jetta 6 Tdi that is giving strange symptoms (since about 4 years old and 60 000km - now 8 years and 120 000km). I have taken it to my local VW dealership when I have had the fault and without. They have been unable to determine via their diagnostics to pick up the problem. At one point they suspected injectors and had them cleaned, but no resolution of the problem. The "older" mechanics I have spoken to have all said EGR valve straight away.
The symptoms I am having (happens randomly and can last from 15 minutes to a whole week of driving), is erratic / rough idling (fluctuates between 950 and 600rpm), feels like a flooded engine when taking off from start (car feels like it wants to cut out when accelerator is depressed), and high diesel consumption. Typically a trip which would be normally around 5.5 l/100km is 10~11 l/100km. I think that this problem over the long term has damaged the engine as it no longer sounds like it used to before this issue. The replacement cost of the EGR valve is a fair amount of cash and my issue is that it may not be the problem. What are your thoughts ?
Any ideas would be most welcome.

    • @HitachiAstemoAftermarket
      @HitachiAstemoAftermarket  4 года назад +3

      Hello, Fred,
We have given some thought to what this could be and we are not betting on the EGR. If it was the EGR, you'd probably have to have quite a loss of power when accelerating, because the valve would have to be open all the time.
A high consumption of diesel can also be an indication of the particulate filter.
Please check above if there is a dilution of oil.
In your situation we would advise you to carry out an in-depth vehicle diagnosis.
Please tell us about the progress

When you off your engine, can you feel a slight jerk (similiar to a bad mounting jerk) right after you cut your ignition? Mine had this symptoms and it was due to a faulty EGR.
After replacement of the EGR unit, FC is much better now.

Make a thorough diagnosis before changing too quickly.
A defective pump 2 for coolant circulation (V178) can be the cause of a defective exhaust gas recirculation system.
If the EGR is defective, you have to proceed differently with your Polo and remove the right wheel and the wheel arch liner on the right side.

Went to two mechanics to do the adaptation but none of them could do it. Can you please further explain how can i do it with the vcds software (or other). Hello Ricardo, it´s unusual that an EGR fails after two weeks.
We test all of our EGR, so you can be sure it works properly. Please try use different types of diagnostic devidces to relearn the EGR (we have the expereience, that even some expensive ones doesn´t work well).
Also read out the parameters of the EGR and check if the EGR opens and closes (0%-100%), if it´s only at one position, you have to check the electrical connection, because it can cause some troubles, too.
I can´t provide you a link, but there is an instruction online where you can see, how to relearn a new spare part with VCDS.
      Hope this helps you.

Basically a 4 hour job on FWD taking out the DPF and Subframe, and maybe 90-120min extra work on 4X4, thats on a lift.

did they replaced the EGR or why did the a new relearning of the EGR valve? If you replace an EGR valve, the new one must be re-learned. If you did the re-learn procedure wrong it wont work.
If the EGR valve does not work properly (engine control light/problems) then you can check by entering the set values in the diagnosis device and checking the actual values.
In case you don't have a diagnostic device, just unplug the EGR and check if your car drives better (even if the light is on).
If so, I would re-learn it again and if not, I would replace it afterwards.
