The switch to Patois is just natural for a lot of black people in the UK, especially in music because so much of our musical influence came from Jamaica. Patois might as well be an official second language on the streets in London lol and a few other cities as well. We heard it spoken all the time growing up and in a lot of music so its just natural to switch between the two and mostly every artist does it tbh.

Alot of UK artists have Caribbean heritage, patois is part of the culture and it intergrates into urban slang nicely. That would explain why you hear it so often.

She is huge in the U.K. now so she has to censor herself more than before. The majority of black people in the UK are from the West Indies. The UK has neither the space nor the climate for the kind of plantation farming that black slaves were used for, so all the UK plantations where in places like the West Indies. The British government/kings actually populated a lot of the West Indies with African slaves. These lands where knows as the “common wealth” after WW2 with the enormous loss of life mainly men. The British government extended passage for people from places like the West Indies to basically rebuild the country. This country 🇬🇧 owes an awful lot to those families who left places like Jamaica 🇯🇲 to come a rebuild the uk. The working class inner city culture has an awful lot of its root in West Indian culture. You’ll get Asian lads with gold teeth and dreads calling each other then N word....it’s slightly uneasy but then again I’m a white guy so I can say shit lol 😂 so back the the point. As homage to these West Indian roots a lot of British born black people will now and then refer to their culture accent or tongue (patois in the case of Jamaica) In every day life even. So in normal speech and “thing” becomes a “ting”. Or people will use a patois word like”pickney” to refer to a child or “yout” for a young person. It’s pretty common. The West Indian culture has fundamentally changed british culture for the better. Boy Gorge would have been stacking CDs in HMV and sting would be cutting hair in Camden market without the influx of Jamaican music to the uk. 🇯🇲🇬🇧 big up my yard fams ✊🏼

Most of uk black people are from the carribean because of the Windrush generation( UK government after the war lied to people from old British colonies that they would be treated good if they came to help rebuild the UK). This is why we have so much carribean influence in our music
