Amen. I once had someone play my kit while I stood at the back of the room so I could hear it and I said to the sound engineer, "The drums need to be louder for this room." He said they would be because "you hit much harder. You play like a lunatic." Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
As a studio guy myself, I'm glad to see this kind of videos. Not only it's always fun to see how others do it, but it also show the audience what's going on in studio. Most of the time, people have no idea of the amount of hard work that is put into making a nice recorded song. They often think it could be done in 60mn or less... just the time to place some mic on a "live rig" and then press record.
It's crazy that it was a year and a half ago I bought the EP. I don't like feeling older but this makes me feel better for it lol. ( I'm not even old.....)
When im in my own mind I end up feeling really shitty. So I throw on some toska and it helps smooth everything out. You guys remind me why I love music. Please keep making it. You Dave and Ben are amazing!
I would pay to sit and listen Max play keys or guitar all day long, the mains a wizard, such delicacy in his playing, I remember from one of the Dorje Tour videos he was sat in the back of the van playing similar style stuff on an 7/8 string guitar, and he just made it sing!
I like these videos as it gives you a good feel for what's involved by everyone in a band to bring it all together including the engineers and various other talented musicians. As someone myself who is not musically minded it nice to see from the sideline of the workings in a studio and I would imagine the pressure is on to perform when recording. 👍
This is awesome, man. I wish more bands did more videos like this to reveal what it is like tracking a record. They're usually just super brief with recorded music dubbed over a montage of footage and loads of talking to the camera. This shows raw sounds of drums, bass and guitar with various effects etc. Very fun to watch.
Sounds boss man! Please can we get the next EP/Album on vinyl? And maybe the old one too? I'd be getting some sent out to New Zealand if you do. Also hoping for a UK tour when I'm back visiting in Nov/Dec. Would love to catch you guys live.
There wouldn't perhaps be a video in which the bass player explains his board? Because I've fallen in love with the noisy pedal at 9:45ish, and I would love to know how it works.
You know Bea you have made me a compulsive obsessive hand washer... Every time before I play now. lol I heard what you said previously and Yes it does make a difference in my playing! Thanks!
These snippets alone feels very awesome. Can't wait to see the whole song. All the best for the new record. Also I can feel a bit of Karnivool in the tracks which makes it more special
Hey, at least we got some actual bass recording footage here. Thank god nobody trusted Dave when he said 'yeah i'll film the bass tracking' this time round. Real talk though, I'm genuinely impressed by how purely vocal the bass is when you were messing with the hog at 9:25. Really puts some anger into the track where there's no vocal performance to do so.
Really well made doc, enjoyed every second of it. I'm not a musician nor do I play any instrument but I love watching these short films, especially from you guys.
Thanks for the "behind the scenes", that was nice to see how you guys practice and tune. Also that bass guitar looks super nice in plain wood. Soooo much gear :-)
Nice to see a drumkit being recorded. So many bands (including big venue fillers) use software and drum looping to save money and get it inch perfect nowadays.
Shaky Blues I just think about every band that I grew up loving and think how did they record. Real drums is they only way. Editing drums takes away from the human element.
Shaky Blues Traditional is always better. For me programming is the only option, and i'm glad i have the ability to go about it in that way -- but you can't beat that true shit
That bit you're all sat listening to around 6:00 - I remember that bit really well from when you played at Satans Hollow last month... Beautifully fucking serene. One day my music will sound as epic as Toska's... One day...
*So dope!!* 💣💥🔥🚒 Major props to the filmer / editor! 👏 _(Assuming Rabea? Lol)_ Great job! Could watch this stuff all day long. Loved _"Ode to the Author."_ Hyped on the new material! 💯
Loving the prog stuff at the moment. Toska is one of my favs. If you like this check out this band I stumbled across: distorted harmony. There album chain reaction is great. Not my band but there great. I think rabea will like them
Yeah man, awesome studio and video looks sliick!
Frog Leap Studios thank you man! Long time no see hahah
6:38 that's how you hit a fucking hi-hat!! I could watch these "in the studio" vids all day, love the editing!
+Rocco Pezzin Hahahah yeah man, he didn't hold back haha
Thanks man, appreciate it! Hope you're good :-)
And then you find Rocco on Rebea's channel, best way to start a week :)
Haha yeah I was in full warface mode

the first 57 seconds inspired me to write a whole song. thanks a million!
That space echoed guitar around 13 minute... No words, how awesome that is..

So pumped for this you guys! The combination of musos, studio and producer/engineers involved is gonna blow minds
Must admit, I was a bit worried you might have trouble following up Ode to the Author with the same quality, but this is sounding amazing.

that little chord progression in congress makes me feel so at peace hahaha
Thanks for the "behind the scenes", that was nice to see how you guys practice and tune. Also that bass guitar looks super nice in plain wood. Soooo much gear :-)

Now that is a sexy base line if I have ever heard one. I really enjoyed this one, Rabea.
That bit you're all sat listening to around 6:00 - I remember that bit really well from when you played at Satans Hollow last month... Beautifully fucking serene.
One day my music will sound as epic as Toska's... One day...
JDStone Creations that gig was great one of the best if not the best gigs of my life!
If I can get my editing arse into gear I have some videos of Toska and Drewsif that I need to upload!
I feel stoned just watching this. EXCELLENT!
Haha!!! I was stoned whilst watching this and it made Ben's drumming 10X more enjoyable than it already is sober... ;)
Cool, that's sounding great, nice studio!
Loved the Circles bit :D
Also, that echo sounds siiiick!
*So dope!!* 💣💥🔥🚒 Major props to the filmer / editor! 👏 _(Assuming Rabea? Lol)_ Great job!
