Taiwan and Ukraine are VASTLY different cases. While Ukraine is a former soviet republic with a low gdp and loaded with corruption(love Ukraine🇺🇦 tho), Taiwan has been an American ally for 70 years and is a high gdp western style democracy which the US relies on heavily for its semiconductors
The U.S was never going to defend Ukraine unless it joined NATO, Taiwan though would cost the US too much if it didn’t fight in money, reputation and power projection. If China invaded the US literally needs to defend Taiwan or lose SIGNIFICANTLY!

I think Taiwan was once China, at least in the "eyes" of the United Nations. When the United Nations was formed , the Nationalist Chinese Government had control over the "mainland" and had a "seat" in the UN. When the Communist regime (The People's Republic of China sometimes referred as Red China ) took control over the mainland, the Nationalist government fled to the island of Taiwan but was still considered to be China. I think during the 1970's , The People's Republic of China made a appeal to the United Nations that since they had control over the mainland and represented the majority of the Chinese people, that they are the "true" China. A vote was taken among the UN members and The People's Republic of China became the "one" China. Like you stated in your video , all Chinese leaders have claimed sovereign rights to Taiwan (and all USA presidential administrations have defended Taiwan's existence) . Both sides conducting military exercises is nothing really new, nor is the "saber rattling" rhetoric from China in regards to Taiwan. But because Taiwan does not not have the credibility of being a member of the United Nations (as "seen" by other nations), in a worse case scenario, the military responsibility (defense of Taiwan) might solely fall on the United States. Just my subjective response to your video.

The government of Taiwan, formally known as the Republic of China (ROC), has been an independent country since 1911, and that's the fact. ROC was the one that allied with the US to defeat Japan in World War II, not the PROC (today's China on the mainland). ROC is much smaller than it used to be due to losing the civil war in 1949, but it would be incorrect to say that it is not an independent country.

It is time to call China's lie that Taiwan is its territory and always has been. Taiwan was Japanese territory for the 50 years before its last 75 years of self-rule, and also belonged to the Dutch and Spanish before China. China lost Taiwan in war in 1895, even before the founding of "modern China." More to the point, Taiwan's status changed after WWII because Japan was defeated in WWII, but not by China, which had basically been defeated again, but by the USA and its Western Allies. It was the USA's right to decide what would happen to Taiwan, and they did not give it to the communists. "Reunification" for most Taiwanese would be with Japan, not China. Taiwan has never been ruled by the CCP. If China wants it, it will be invasion and war. It's not as obvious as blatantly lying and claiming Hong Kong was never a British colony for 150 years, but another Chinese wishful lie, nevertheless.

Taiwan is officially Republic of China, the name of Taiwan itself was named by Chinese people just like other provinces. Just the difference between the political parties. The land is our land. 97% people in Taiwan is Chinese. We share same culture same language. Even same dialect with Fujian Province. So don't use the word "invade". it's our internal issues. ROC, PRC is all CHINA. But taiwan independance is not acceptable whether for historical reason, territorial reason or cultural reason. in mainland chinese point of view, the Party which is governing ROC now is a traitor who is dividing our territory. Because unification is in our cultures, no matter what party is ruling. So don't say "invade".

The flag is the national flag of Republic of China. There is no nation called Taiwan, at least not yet. ROC was founded in 1911, also one of the founders of UN, 1949 was the founding year of People’s Republic of China after defeated ROC with support from Russia. So there are two China. ROC controls a number of islands beside Taiwan, some are in South China Sea where Philippine claims ownership (PRC inherited the 9 line from ROC), a few are right outside the coast of Fujian, they have ferries back and forth and use water from Fujian. So the two sides are not separated as western media tells you. There was a truce between two China signed in 1992, the pro independent party took over ROC in 2016, denied the existence of a truce, replaced the name on passport from Republic of China to Taiwan and plans succession from “China”. This escalated tension with Beijing and led to now.
Semiconductor chip manufacturing are actually 90% in mainland China because China consumes 60% of world chips, only 10% of high end small chips, e.g., for cell phone, are made in Taiwan and South Korea. Again, taiwan doesn’t have the capacity to make this many chips for the world. Making chips needs huge amount of water and electricity which taiwan is limited.

The US will not defend Taiwan because it supports the One China policy which means it recognises the territory of the former as being an indivisible part of China. This means the US believes that China is not committing an act of aggression against an independent or foreign nation by asserting its authority over the island.
The Evidence for this claim comes in many forms ranging from the general economic decline of the US to its inability to match China and Russia in such technologies as hypersonic missiles to the social divisions emerging within its population. The US is supposed to be the "arsenal of democracy" and yet it is not providing weapons to the Taiwanese for free but rather at some considerable profit. Also, what has been sold to them is outdated equipment.
““What this tells you should be obvious: the US has zero expectation that Taiwan will hold out against the [Chinese People’s Liberation Army]. It just assumes that everything sold to Taiwan will eventually end up in PLA hands. This is why it refused to deliver the AIM-120 missiles until the PLA possessed their own missiles that were just as good,” Lu wrote.
“That’s not to say that the US won’t sell weapons to Taiwan. Just in the past 12 months it’s sold to Taiwan the M1A2 MBT, M109 SPA, and F-16V fighter jet, but these are all current generation or last generation equipment. The PLA will gain little tech knowledge when reverse engineering these pieces after Taiwan has capitulated. By contrast, the F-35 is too cutting edge to be forked over to the PLA, thus the US won’t export it to Taiwan.”
…. added that it’s not that Taiwan can’t afford the F-35s.
“If the US really had any hopes for Taiwan to hold out, it would be giving Taiwan F-35s for free, …””
    19fortyfive/2021/11/should-taiwan-buy-f-35-stealth-fighters/
None of this suggests that the US is serious about defending Taiwan.
So, the question becomes, what chance have the Taiwanese got in a fight against its vastly larger and better-armed neighbour? The outcome is obvious and so it is really a matter of saving as many lives as possible that is the real issue here. That can be achieved by allowing those who do not wish to live under the rule of the Communist Party to leave and become citizens of some other democracy, such as Australia.
Upholding Chinese sovereignty does not have to result in a massive loss of life on both sides of the Taiwan Strait in a military conflict that would also result in significant material destruction and environmental damage to both sides, and to any other nations choosing to involve themselves.
A peaceful outcome that is in line with the beliefs of the democracies of this world concerning the sanctity of human life can be achieved in a manner consistent with allowing the democratic aspirations of the Taiwanese to live on, all be it, in another country or countries who are similarly committed to the same way of life.
There does not have to be armed conflict between the West and China. There is another way to resolve the Taiwanese matter and that involves allowing the migration of a large part of the Taiwanese population to Australia. We should approach all sides with such an offer as soon as possible.
