Young Jazz Ensemble - Grade 3
Your students will love this very accessible, yet exciting Salsa twist on this timeless jazz standard. The rhythmic horn writing and expertly detailed rhythm section parts will enable your band to sound authentic on this Cuban “Son-Montuno” style version. Playable with 1 or 2 percussionists.

Finally! An arranger with a clue about what the drummer might actually play!
it's a good day when Michele gets a live band to play for her
Lol. Thank you. It IS so much fun to hear your charts played by humans. *By the way, my two boleros last year were midi because HL had to publish them by the Midwest Clinic's deadline because both of them were chosen for premier there (by UNT and Mundelein HS) and HL had already had their yearly studio session.
do you think you're going to be able to re-release recordings from your old compositions/arrangements except with a live band? or will it stay the same?
@@lp_fhornandtpt.1423 Yes :) We recently managed live recordings and I believe HL will put the mp3 on their website. Thanks for asking !

OUTSTANDING ARRANGEMENT! What a fresh take on a classic ballad. TAKE MY MONEY!
Didn't know I needed this until now.
Thank you very much !
Hey, Michele finally got a live band to play! Good for her!
Lol, George. Thank you. Yes, it IS fun to hear your stuff played by humans (esp when they read the actual written grooves without deferring automatically to "Songo" ;). I used Cascara and Campaneo grooves for authenticity here. This percussion section did a nice job; I was happy with them! *By the way, my two boleros last year were midi because HL had to publish them by the Midwest Clinic's deadline because both of them were chosen for premier there (by UNT and Mundelein HS) and HL had already had their yearly studio session. Have a great week!
Was looking for a different song, luve this tho..
Superb take on a chart that is educationally very important and so soulfully written.
I’m currently playing drums on this in jazz band at school and it’s such a fun song!
our county debuted this piece!
*Very Nice Song* 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much.
Finally! A version you cant slit your wrists to. Lively! 🎉

i'm sorry, joe. can you elaborate on that?
Joe?
Really creative chart! Love the sax lines. Rhythm writing is great. Too bad the horns are so out of tune in some spots. Trumpets, seriously? Still, I'm buying this.
I don’t get any of the hate, this is a really fun chart to play. The direct autumn leaves sample in the beginning is a little bland but the rest of the chart is MAGICAL
Excelente
0:05 start without drum solo
Wow! You just murdered a beautiful ballad.

The original wasn't even a ballad, you genius.
