As for the lean issue, this is why you get off the UpRev software and go to a standalone ECU like Haltech; where you can run Speed Density based calculations for sensing load. In addition, you can cal/tune your ECU to run closed loop fueling which if you have a vacuum leak, are using a MAP sensor and close loop fueling, you’ll be able to stay on targeted AFRs with fuel corrections being applied. However, you may never even know you are running lean….unless you see in the data, how much fuel corrections are being applied.
Really good points here brother! Wish I got my buddies Haltech Ecu and dash when we parted his build out… it’s super expensive to get that setup new now
Inadequate oil return flow will smoke like crazy and scavenge pump can help pick up the slack alot of times. In the car performance triangle you can only be 2 of the 3 things fast, reliable or cheap. Alot of times oil flow also helps cool the turbo. Plug changes om normal cars all depend on plug type for mileage but with more air and fuel a regular copper plug 1 step colder that you should be running in you will def need to be change more frequently especially if not running it hard alot the plugs can foul quicker.
Aaron, you have become a Wise man. Just think you could have enough money for a down payment to buy a house. I too went down to the same road with a Honda Prelude years ago. I spent thousands of dollars in a supercharger, gages, computer, rims, tires, Suspension upgrades, and professional dyno tuning. Twice ,I returned home on a flatbed truck due to breakdowns. Yes, it did bring me pleasure when it ran. When I sold it, the upgrades did not carry any value at all. Luckily I did grow out of my Boy Racer syndrome and now just enjoy my nearly stock reliable G35.
That's not a completely true statement @ Aaron. It's all dependent on how the engine was built. A built VQ can be very reliable at 600hp. Boost level is also important.
I've always gone with the "if i cant afford it i aint buying it" mentality when it comes to cars. GL paying it off man, will be a huge relief for sure and you will have a sick car to show for it.
Yeah, boosting a car that wasn't designed for boost is not for the faint of heart or wallet. Starting with a better (already boosted) platform may be a better choice. The engine is already built to handle the boost. I don't think you mentioned how long this took. I haven't seen the other videos from the start of the project. The time it takes to get everything done is ridiculous. I mean when dealing with the specialty and tuner shops. They are always overbooked and backed-up with many different projects. Definitely plan on being without the car for possibly many months. One of the owners of a shop I visited recently told me some projects were over a year old and still going. Have to factor the time in too.
sadly as I'm at 190k miles I'm going to do an ls swap when ever it blows up. I just dont see the point of pushing a VQ to the max when I can get more HP more reliably.
Boosting my nismo HR was the worst decision I ever made it built my own kit money wise only had 2k in it but 1 week after it was done and tuned it threw a rod and the 3 years after that It didnt run a total of 1. 10/10 absolutely do not reccomend boosting a vq.
I moved on from a boosted z to the N54 platform and made more hp for less initial cost unfortunately the time and money to keep it running is not easy on the wallet great content and info for anyone looking to boost.
These are good points to make. When deciding to go boost, it's best to weigh options and plan ahead. I have an 05 G35 Sedan 6spd with the DE Rev up, and mine has over 230k.. Only has basic bolt ons(Intake, test pipes back exhaust, Z1 lightweight crank pulley, BC coilovers) and I'm concentrating on preventative mods at the moment. A GREAT and cheap upgrade for our motors, is running the R35 oil filters! Screws right on and are larger so you get better filtration to help protect that DE. Actually, according to Z1, these filters fit a bunch of Nissan/Infiniti rides.
@@LeGiiTLawLcaNNoN you can get them from your local Nissan dealership. Mine carries them for about $10.. 15208 9E01A is the part number. Look on Z1's site for OE oversized filter.. They say it fits G35, G37, 370Z, 350Z, Juke and more..
I am dying to know what was causing the heads lift? google says Cylinder head lift is caused by excessive cylinder pressure, which can result from several things, including detonation and/or pre-ignition; improper fuel type; over-advanced ignition timing; improper air-fuel ratio; vacuum leaks; malfunctioning sensors; and increased boost pressure. Did this have anything to do with accidentally boosting the crankcase?
I just rebuilt my 06 RevUp VQ35DE engine and….it’s leaking oil from the rear main seal after driving ~250miles to break-in the engine. Now I have to pull the entire engine and trans just to replace this seal (oil pan has to come off). I’m so pissed…
That happened to me when o changed my clutch I also replaced that seal and it leaked so bad… after two days of nonstop hard work. I hear you brother but that’s how you lean! Take your time and get er done I know you can do it 💯
@@AaronNewman Thanks for your support man; I’ve been dreading this over the past week since first start/drive. Even had a reputable Datson shop turn down this job cause of how much work is involved. I will have to do this myself (again). At least I’m familiar with the engine now…
I just did my rear main about 2K miles ago (almost a month and a half I think). Total pain to do because of how it's set up. I did it with the engine in the car because I didn't have the luxury of time to pull the whole thing out. Did it, pulled the trans, did the seal, put the trans back in, then dropped the oil pan to do the bottom rear main seal.
Once you start you cant stop until you get what your looking for. No matter the cost when your looking for a fast car. But it's cheaper to just convert to a LS motor out of the box you get 350 400hp then add mods all priced at 13k The price of of a American made v8 LS is a easy switch and cost effective. Sure you can do a Nissan Titan v8 I dont see why not. You can also v10 or any motor for that matter. If you want to mod the shit out of your car. Meaning if your planning to do a turbo the cost as he explained can run you around $22,000 dollars most cases closer to 25k for top of the line motor built the turbo install and all of the wiring and a good dino tune. Then you need to start doing bushings in the rear and motor mounts trans mounts to stiffen it up. LS motor bolts right up with LS swap kit and you get a brand new motor and after bolt on mods theres no reason you cant get 400 450whp. Then you can do a supercharge I think works best for v8 for around 5k total cost 15k. Trust me I'm a huge fan of Nissan. But the VQ35DE is a bitch to mod at least a 2006 is. Just adding headers screws up o2 and AF sensors to the ECM. And the bottom ends are not that tough at all. Rod bearings and main bearings with VQ will cook. How do I know well because I did it in my 2006 revup 350z that I was and still am building for 2 years now. At cost of 14k but now I need a new motor to build with new crank
i always like.the look of the G35 BUT I would never spend.that much money on a car. I wanted to go fast cheaply so I took the 2 wheel route. I have an 02 VQ35DE maxima with a 6 speed and the most I'll do with that is a 7th or 8th gen maxima engine. right now it has a bunch of bolt ons and a tune.
Supercharger is way better as a daily imo, and as long as you're not pushing too much boost you're good. Also, make sure it's the 6mt cuz the CVT is unreliable as shit lol
@@stl_kc7184 400 wheel or 400 crank? Honestly I think both should be fine but if always check similar builds to see people's results. But that sounds completely reasonable to me
I really want to supercharge my Z though I’m worried about the cost and reliability for the numbers I want to hit, but can’t bring my self to put a ls in it because i want it to stay jdm and reliable and have readily available parts.
@@350zKiller 450whp is def possible on a DE stock Block with either Supercharger or Turbo. Turbo will be more affordable and make power more efficiently. Supercharger will be easier to install and will be slightly more reliable. A 75-100 Wetshot of NOS can do the job too for cheap but I’m not a fan of it…. W.E you do just make sure you have it tuned on Full E85, an Oil cooler, and a Oil pan Spacer for more oil capacity. It should last you a good few years with good maintenance, just be cautious with the low end torque.
@@Jg.a33 yeah that’s the main issues I’ve been running into is it seems I’m gonna have to tune it on e85, but it seems like other motors can hit that power mark without needing e85 or sometimes even premium which sounds really nice because this thing gets 17mpg avg and takes premium which makes it less fuel efficient than my truck💀 while only pushing stock DE numbers which makes me only imagine the price of having a Z with that much power from a DE and on e85. It sucks because I love the vq and the sound, but I want to be able to afford to drive my car whenever I feel like driving it and not worry to much about the cost like I know I’ll have to pay to play with it like I already play through 80-100$ minimum in two days of driving on the weekends just not wanting it to cost hundreds and hundreds each time just to drive my car.
@@350zKiller All cars cost money when you want to go faster…. Just the way it is bro. The DE can make good power still boosted with 93. Great video! I definitely am in the same boat with my Z, even considered selling it because of how much I've invested in it and how I could repurpose those funds. At the end of the day, it's an investment and you gotta always do what's best for the future.
Could you explain how it’s an investment? I’ve always assumed that when you modify your Al car you don’t really get that money back when you try to sell it
@@alwynmanalil426also most people want to buy a almost original one instead of modified and start their own build. Only way to be considered as investment is keep it original and low mileage, but it conflicts the definition of car enthusiasts: keep driving the car 😂
Yes there are smarter swaps like vr30 swaps which would be around 12k or ls swap which would be around 8-10k but what you have is different I feel like they’re isn’t many twin turbo’d de’s single turbo tons of en so it’s really up to want you want out of the car and how much you’re willing to spend including the mistakes cost which no one really talks about

Hella long wait brother but Martin always fits me in when people drop because I’m reliable like that. I’ll show up soon as he has room even when he’s 4 hour drive away from me lol
I get this question a lot and tbh, no it’s really hard to find them but you can reach out to a company called LKQ and see if they have any they will tell you mileage and price. If I were looking I would call them or find a part out on the marketplace
my goal with mine is to be at 350whp, think i can get that from intake mods and exhaust, pretty much bigger throttle body, intake plenum and space 75mm on everything , short ram intake 3inch that fits where the stock air box would, (id do my best to protect the temps and the filter) and a complete motordyne exhaust3 inch. think thats possible Aaron?
So much money for not so much power that is why I am deciding to sell my g35 :( I am gonna miss it but it's cheaper to do with a car that's already boosted from factory
for those on a budget and want around 400hp+ for right around $10k watch fru’s vid on his turbo setup, I think it’s a great video with information ruclips.net/video/Cd56eB1QrBM/видео.html and another thing to note and add to aarons video you def want to upgrade your brake system into brembos or akebonos for better stopping power 👍 hope to see more boosted DE’s.
Build your motor. Then assemble the forced induction. If you do this over a period of time say a few years or more, the hit on your pocket is much less. i always like.the look of the G35 BUT I would never spend.that much money on a car. I wanted to go fast cheaply so I took the 2 wheel route. I have an 02 VQ35DE maxima with a 6 speed and the most I'll do with that is a 7th or 8th gen maxima engine. right now it has a bunch of bolt ons and a tune.
I’m actually doing a G35 VR30 swap already got the donor car just gotta have the time to fit the motor and get mounts and shit on the car 😂
I wonder what the boys in Europe & Renault do to boost these engines.
havn,t seen your vids lately . Good to see you still got the car. Do you drive it much. or is it a weekend car
Decent video decent drifts great channel! Thanks for sharing your g35 Life!
i want to boost my 03 g35 with 80k miles, should i reconsider it since its on a stock block? also turbo or supercharger for a daily?
Supercharger is way better as a daily imo, and as long as you're not pushing too much boost you're good. Also, make sure it's the 6mt cuz the CVT is unreliable as shit lol
@@Perry.... the g35 auto isn’t a cvt, and it can handle boost well.
@@Perry.... manual ofc, going for 400 hp? is that pushing the limit?
@@stl_kc7184 400 wheel or 400 crank? Honestly I think both should be fine but if always check similar builds to see people's results. But that sounds completely reasonable to me
I really want to supercharge my Z though I’m worried about the cost and reliability for the numbers I want to hit, but can’t bring my self to put a ls in it because i want it to stay jdm and reliable and have readily available parts.
How much are you trying to make and are you a DE,HR, Or VHR?
@@Jg.a33 I have a DE and my goal is 450-600 I don’t want to go past 600 really.
E85 is just simply light years better on pretty much any FI Setup Car. If you don’t personally think you can afford it, then just stick to basic Bolt-Ons and then Add Nitrous when you want that Extra Sauce.
So, how many quarts of oil did you end up needing to reduce the pressure?
just about 6 quarts but I need a scavenge pump to help the turbos drain better to run more oil
Sounds like I’m going to do a rear mount oil-less air cooled setup to avoid all of your problems.
Great video! I definitely am in the same boat with my Z, even considered selling it because of how much I've invested in it and how I could repurpose those funds. At the end of the day, it's an investment and you gotta always do what's best for the future.
Could you explain how it’s an investment? I’ve always assumed that when you modify your Al car you don’t really get that money back when you try to sell it
@@alwynmanalil426 only a lambo bro
@@alwynmanalil426also most people want to buy a almost original one instead of modified and start their own build. Only way to be considered as investment is keep it original and low mileage, but it conflicts the definition of car enthusiasts: keep driving the car 😂
Literally blew a hole through my upper oil pan last night stock block. Still during tuning process
No wayyy I’m really sorry to hear that! But if you plan to rebuild it trust the process!
I have a gs350 Lexus 306hp, na engine, can I put a turbo on it, or centrifugal, or just change the pistons and bore
Yes there are smarter swaps like vr30 swaps which would be around 12k or ls swap which would be around 8-10k but what you have is different I feel like they’re isn’t many twin turbo’d de’s single turbo tons of en so it’s really up to want you want out of the car and how much you’re willing to spend including the mistakes cost which no one really talks about
Ngl you said 15-20k and tbh that’s my goal and max I want to spend keyword “want” cus you know how things go jaja I don’t wanna go in debt so imma have to wait on it till I run up on sun money but yeah bro I’m happy to hear you spend that much and made around that power.
That’s the way to go man but that’s while spending no money on labor and attempting everything myself to keep that in mind!
Nitish has a awesome boosted G you probly know him or seen his vids .
nitish21
Where was the scavenge pump for the turbos
Just looked into them I didn’t even know it was a thing tbh. A must have for a kit like the Greddy tt because I have fellow Greddy kit users who have the same issue
Can you tell me the tightening torques for the liners on the vq35hr Infiniti engine
Noti gang checking in ayeeeeee.
When u say lower the oil level to stop the oil blowing thru turbo are u talking engine oil where do u keep the level at on your dipstick?!? Having an issue with my big turboed car blowing oil only at 6 rpm & higher smokes like a bitch than starts back firing
You can boost with a turbo on it use a good Supercharger it works with me
Seeing these videos I just hate how crappy california emission laws. I won't be able to do anything to my car cause it will be a nightmare to deal with smog.
I have a 04 g35 vq35de im going N/A Full bult on with plenum spacer, CAI, and full exhaust headers to blast pipes and i got quoted by a local shop with a dyno for 5 maps on stock ecu. Do you have any better recommendations for tuning? I just dont want to blow my motor.
lol I run all that on a stock tune while beating on the car at the track. You'll be fine.
Oh yeah you’ll be fine NA matting it to the floor all day long
Thanls dad for the birds and the bees talk😂
Yooooo. A--Aron, nice vid bro!
Did z-fever take you right away? Was there a long wait for the tune?
Hella long wait brother but Martin always fits me in when people drop because I’m reliable like that. I’ll show up soon as he has room even when he’s 4 hour drive away from me lol
@@AaronNewman damn! Im tryna get a tune in.. got a level one flash sitting on ecutek but im affraid to use it.. its generic and can be off.
Holy shit this story sounds extremely stressful and nerve wrecking. I would of died of being stressed out 😬😅
Such good information
Love the bov you got on it jaja
@ 11:00 that aam kit is no joke :)
You know the vibe 🥲
Any leads on good used engines?
I get this question a lot and tbh, no it’s really hard to find them but you can reach out to a company called LKQ and see if they have any they will tell you mileage and price. If I were looking I would call them or find a part out on the marketplace
You know you driving skyline different generations tho
Is your engine build though?
Yes built short block from IPP with jwt cams
my goal with mine is to be at 350whp, think i can get that from intake mods and exhaust, pretty much bigger throttle body, intake plenum and space 75mm on everything , short ram intake 3inch that fits where the stock air box would, (id do my best to protect the temps and the filter) and a complete motordyne exhaust3 inch. think thats possible Aaron?
So much money for not so much power that is why I am deciding to sell my g35 :( I am gonna miss it but it's cheaper to do with a car that's already boosted from factory
How dare you lol have all this turbo fun n tell us not 2? You Stingy Broo lol 💪🏽😄
😂😂😂😂
My bad my bad!
All that money is crazy
for those on a budget and want around 400hp+ for right around $10k watch fru’s vid on his turbo setup, I think it’s a great video with information ruclips.net/video/Cd56eB1QrBM/видео.html and another thing to note and add to aarons video you def want to upgrade your brake system into brembos or akebonos for better stopping power 👍 hope to see more boosted DE’s.
rod knock rod knock rod knock. I'm on my second g because I love the body but the bearings are the weak point
because its not worth the time or money... but its cool to see another one ✔️
Great vibes good video keep up the content!
Build your motor. Then assemble the forced induction. If you do this over a period of time say a few years or more, the hit on your pocket is much less. Yes 17k is a lot to build the motor but imagine spending like 5k a year on it. Won’t break the bank. You won’t miss that 17k in a few years. Dumping 17k into it thinking RUclipsrs do the same isn’t a good idea. Some of them yes build a full car in a month. You ever eat an elephant? One bite at a time boyz. (Old timer told me that saying)
Mr aaron how you been
Better knowing you’re here!
@@AaronNewman ayooo
I have a HR and I am staying NA😁
That thing can handle 600+hp safely! All you need is a turbo kit 😬
@@AaronNewman not worth the investment to me, but I am quite a bit older.
nitish21 did 1,000 HP on a built DE engine
Reason #1 is very real!!!!! lol EXPENSIVE
It's a skyline I got 2 most of the world have the real model
Bro I’m commenting just to help you get some money
You are a real one ahahahha
Stop being lazy just put parts in the mf engine you’ll go get paint and everything else BUT internals.
if I had a 350 and I wanted a turbo I'd swap a built K in it and make it riiiip 🤠
Why a g35 tho
Sup bro
What he actually means is Don’t boost DEs
Simple Nissan trash 🗑
If you want boost just get a 335i
Facts
But they lose to g35's anyway.
@@its_taps at any level of mods a 335i is gapping a g35 for half the price. Unless you 2jz swap
