Yours is absolutely gorgeous ❤ Simple living for me is taking one day at a time and be conscious of the moment enjoying the little things. Wish you a great weekend ☕️✨
For myself Jean , I'm waiting for another 4-5 years more to get my CPF $$$. From there , stop work , will do some simple travelling . Rest for awhile ....been working for nearly 40 years already. And after 4 months or so , find a part time job. Oh ya , go to Bali to learn how to surf 😊🏄 Cheers !! 🌊🌊🌊🏝️🏝️🏝️🌴🌴🌴
What you think you become. The mind is everything. Simple living, to me, is living every day as it comes, expect less from others. Just do something without the expectation of success. If you fail, try again some other day. Kick back..
I moved to sunny Rome and our cost of living are not far off from yours. What i found i struggle is to leave that consumerism mindset i got after 9 years in the UK. Despite beautiful weather and great food my mind seems to always circle back into thinking about how do i make more money and what i buy with it. Any advice how you managed to change your mindset and started to enjoy small things, appreciate the nature more?
I live in the UK and my version is living in a very small town, with a lake 5 minutes from my apartment and nature walks all around. Plenty of trees and greenery. Cooking nice food at home and looking after my plants. Visiting the gardens of an abbey ruin at lunchtime when I go into a big local town for work. Writing novels and songs. I can't afford to go on holiday, but that doesn't matter because I love where I am.
Live small, have less. This phrase alone sums up the entire video. For me, minimalism is the way to go. Being rich is not about how much you have; it's about the freedom of living the simple life you want.
beautiful sharing. i started being simple before i heard the word minimalist. since in my early 20s, simplicity has been my fashion, my food, my wants, my aspirations, my future ... which allow me to maintain my weight, saved at least 50% of my earnings, no debt, at 58, i fit most of my evergreen style clothings, go to places that I want to go and not copy others who post in their IG, FB etc. Life is Good ❤
Simple living can also include simple travelling. Don't have to always fly off to somewhere. I'm planning a short camping trip to a beach campsite in eastern JB.
Trying to get rid of all my stuff and then I’m off to SE Asia to do exactly what you are doing. At 64 I look back and think I should have done this long ago. Thanks for your videos
This is one of the most peaceful videos I've seen. You're inspiring me to live a similar way. I'm happy for you to have found peace and happiness! It sounds like it's well. deserved!
Dear Jean, Thanks again very much for your inspiring and encouraging video. You speak to my heart and I think you are my soulsister :) I am a doctor for almost 14 years and since 6 years I cut my working hours from full time to 60 %. Since then I live a more meaningful and happy life. More time for family events, traveling, yoga, investing my money with care and most importantly just living healthy. You give a good spirit for my upcoming travel to Bali. Can’t wait be back again in August. So thanks again :) and have a great super soul Saturday!
I just recently subscribed to your RUclips and watched basically all your videos. You inspired me to live a simpler, happier life. It's very encouraging and relaxing words of wisdom.
Thank you Debbie for this kind note 🌻😍 I’m glad you liked this video as much as I do we’ve had a beautiful few months in Bali lately n the weather is just divine n the furkids r cute 🤩🌈
I just stumbled upon your channel, and this is the first video I have watched. I am in a transitional state, moving from one country to another, thinking (and overthinking :D ) about my purpose, how can I slow down, and how can I live a more present and meaningful life. Your video was very calming, encouraging and reassuring. Thank you :)
I live in the Netherlands, but away from the big cities. I love riding bike, reading books and just going out for long walks. Very different from my work as I An a IT specialist. But I love the balance. I am busy with paying off my student loans and after that I will work less.
we do need to have a good financial foundation true, but i hv also found from my experience now that actually what you need may be less than what you think :) good luck
So agree with this video Jean. I have never been a terribly ambitious person and years ago was always made to feel badly about this. I just wanted to do something that benefited others while feeding my soul. I am not a lazy person and have always supported myself, but most of my work life was empty and soul sucking. I finally reached my breaking point when job stress caused early cancer. I switched careers to healthcare which was more aligned to who I am. That was 13 years ago and though I've not been stress free, I knew the cancer was a symptom and it has not returned. While far from perfect as healthcare is still corporate, it has made the world of difference in being able to tolerate the non-sense. I have been able to be of service in a way that more aligns with who I am. Much joy and comfort has been exchanged in this way. ❤
Your simple living is such a dream living for many balinese and indonesian out there. Hope you can teach people outside your circle how to elevate their life standard and living their own dreams. Much love. ❤
You bring such joy to my life, listening to you is relaxing and encouraging. Thank you for sharing you're peaceful ways. Imagine what the world would be like if there were more people like you⚘
Very well explained about your simple and beautiful life. Your voice is so sweet I am in Kuwait working after retire I will go back to my country and live a beautiful life. Waiting to happen soon Pray
Hi, Jean! You've been a constant source of inspiration ever since I decided to quit my corporate job last year. Right now, I'm working from home and spending more time taking care of my family. I agree with all that you've said. And I dont equate my value based on corporate titles or what I have in the bank anymore - it's just liberating. I love living a simple and stress-free life. I'm happy to know that there are other people like you who are going through this same journey. Your videos are my constant confirmation that I've made the right decision in life. So, thank you!
Another great video. I am planning another trip to Bali and was curious if there are any rentals in a similar neighborhood to get that "slower" pace you speak of. Bali can be quite frenetic as you know and I want to test Bali as a retirement option. We love cute cafes, a good gym, and a beautiful clean beach at times that is within striking distance.
Absolutely the best video on youtube. The timing is perfect! I just came from a peaceful kayaking. Voices like yours keep people with open ears motivated not to follow the "norm". Спасибо ❤
Just like the countless geographical options for living, there's many different choices in terms of lifestyle. The trick is finding a life that matches who we are, as that seems to lead to happiness. It's that first step, knowing ourselves, that tends to be the greatest challenge IMO.
Thanks Jean for sharing your nice carefree lifestyle . Your husband , home , pets and your wonderful place which you are at .....Bali 🙏 Great to be simple after all those years 👍 of running around .
My partner and I moved to Bali a few years ago too, and we love it here. Even though our lives might look different, we really appreciate the peace and lifestyle Bali offers. I totally agree with you about the pressure of societal expectations. It's inspiring to see how you've created success on your own terms. Congrats on following your path and showing others it's possible!
Such a lifestyle will invite loads of criticism from society and family even for wasting a life being lazy useless etc and not like them successful in careers making loads of money holding fancy job titles flaunting their wealth with condos cars etc
I think you've really hit the nail on the head with your approach to life. Can I ask, you mentioned you can cover all your expenses with your passive income, I was wondering what sources of passive income you have? My expenses are relatively modest and I would one day like to get to a similar situation as you but first I need to build up my passive income so I'm keen to hear how you did it.
Very inspiring as always i will go to Bali next week where i already lives 32 years ago surfing balangan wich in your film my spouse karen now is visiting her family we both spend 5 years to work on my last small development but war as come by we out of the country now need to remove our stress hopefully start again a new life in Bali again
inspiring way to live...love Balinese lifestyle. can you share whether the villa is rented or owned? I live in Switzerland with my hubby, son and cat and we live a pretty simple life in my opinion in a Swiss village. Shops are closed on Sunday and we are so close to nature. Switzerland is expensive though! and we are considering to spend 50% of our time in Malaysia where I am originally from once we hit retirement age. In my opinion Switzerland is very close to a paradise society because there's a good balance of personal living vs corporate although Swiss people work very hard. Despite being the home of luxury watches etc many Swiss I know don't chase materialism, they travel often, live simply in good quality homes and spend quality time with family.
Hi! So interesting to read about your life in Switzerland! I’ve been there for a visit once when I was 18! (Many years ago 😅😅😂😂) it really was so idyllic and peaceful n beautiful n fed the soul! I remember Interlaken and Bern the most clearly. What shocked me was that on Xmas eve I expected big parties n celebrations a la Asia but instead everything was closed and everyone was either at home w family or at church. So wholesome! Our home in Bali is on a long lease so it requires money up front but then monthly it works out very reasonably. It’s also possible to buy land/villa thru a foreigner owned company which u can set up. Pros n cons either way 😊
Not chasing a career job title money makes like quite meaningless just going walks the doggies surfing cycling etc everyday like that for next 40 50 years??
Thanks for sharing, this is very inspiring. I’m thinking of spending some time in Bali to see if it may be a place I would enjoy living in. Do you have recommendations on neighborhoods that are good for long stays and aren’t touristy?
Actually you are blessing for this the high standard for living than avarages people have it...btw i'm indonesian who works now in makassar but originally i come from bandung, west java...my last visit to bali in aug 2022...God Bless you
How to you express what your life purpose is and what makes your life meaningful now? I have received so much backlash for wanting to retire early and it is the life purpose (without a career) question that I have problems answering. Would love a video on this.
Hi Melissa, actually the video addresses this question about purpose esp my explanation in the second half. Thing is back when I had my law career n all n was buying into the whole social narrative about purpose being success at work and in society so I hv to work v hard n have all the flash, it didn’t feel right to me (n I was actually very successful by peer standards back in the day). It was only when I scaled back n completely switched track that I found real meaning and true purpose in the little things in life. Taking care of my family n spending quality time with them. Actually pursuing my passions to some level of competence (painting surfing n recently cycling). Reading n sharpening my mind. Contemplating. Meditating. It’s not what tv n social media (or common opinion) will tell u where life purpose lies, but on a day to day basis when ure doing the stuff that feels real n purposeful u yourself will feel different. U will feel that your life n each day has a very clear and specific point to it. U will feel satisfied and happy from inside out. Your soul will feel fed. And I clearly feel n hv articulated to my family a few times, if anything happened n I had an untimely early demise, not to be too sad, because in these recent years I have lived well and with purpose and meaning. I hope that explanation helps. U will feel in your bones when ure doing what’s right for u.
@@JeanVoronkova Thank you for your long message and I have been thinking about this for weeks. I don't want you to think that taking the time to write this was not impactful! Certainly the happiest I have been in life was when I lived more simply in SE Asia and that is my plan when I retire. I already own the condo and could lean FIRE with a little prep. I guess what is holding me back is being judged- by my family, my husband and friends. Having had a meaningful career helping others- I don't feel like my current life is very meaningful. I burned out a couple years ago but remain in the job. I would not be able to articulate what my current purpose is- I feel like I am just waiting for my life to get better and restart- and I will be my old cool self again even though I know that this is not going to happen by chance. I want to be happy with the little things and deep down I know that is what makes me happy- watching the sunset at the beach, going for an early morning walk, spending quality time with friends. I do want to spend more time with my family, focus on my health & wellness, pursue my passions (scuba diving, travel, learning new things) but can I say this is my life purpose? Is this enough? I guess I have pretty much said this to my loved ones and it's been ignore or dismissed. If I died tomorrow, I will feel like I had a life filled with incredible experiences but wasted the last few years being miserable. If I look at it from this perspective, I I am wasting my precious time. I want to feel happy on the inside again. I want to feel it in my bones. I have had that feeling and I want to find it again. Thank you. You know you do have a purpose larger than yourself, all the thousands of people you touch every day even when you're not posting a video. You teach us simple happy living. 🙂
I am running numbers and creating my plan so I can make my leap within 1 year- hopefully sooner. Looking forward to your next video. It has been 3 months. Thank you for all that you do. 🙂
So inspiring Jean!! Truly! So glad I came across your video and channel. I would love to interview you for Happy Well Being Life. I’m based in the UK. If you could let me know how to contact you!!❤ Many thanks 🙏🏽
If we can live like that and simply share how to live like that with others.. things take a turn when we are too busy, but at times when others don’t genuinely respect , and that’s in everything , everything and everywhere if there’s no real core of values nothing to ask because there’s nothing stand true, and inevitably in the end ..
This is exactly the life I am wishing I was living -- close to nature, simple living and fewer distractions. Sadly, trapped in Singapore where it is very, very hard to find any semblance of a chill life because everyone is in a constant swirl of competitiveness and FOMO.
This is a new definition of a luxurious living. A luxury in terms of redefining how one wants to live their lives on their own terms instead of the society narrative success which is focused mainly on materialism and competitiveness. Ironically, one can probably live such lives only after they have slogged for that fat paycheck and being in the rat race for a period of time. Without some good monies earned , it is not attainable plus if you have family commitments and caregiving responsibilities. This is indeed an ideal lifestyle. Slowing down, minimalism, simplicity, focus on things that matters which are not things but inner joy, peace and happiness. Sadly, not everyone can afford it and for those who could, it is indeed a blessing.
Minimalism is just the word… trend, mode. What is Jean talking about is just basic living, spend energy and our days on things which really matters to us. Love this video, can watch it again and again.
@@edfast5893 hi Ed, thank you so much for all your support for our videos. I’m very touched. I’m sorry I’ve gone MIA last 4-5 months without any updates to everyone. It’s been a tough year on the personal front n I’m still working out my thoughts on how to share what’s happening on this channel. Meantime I worked on our Shanghai footage from our trip there back in May and posted that just today on our food channel. Hope you enjoy that. I’m trying to work up to a proper video to explain what’s been happening w us last few months here soon but meantime I hope you and Joycelyn are well and all is good 🤗😍

You know that the aim for many. To not need a 'holiday away' to escape life. Instead to build the life at home so you don't feel to escape
You're already on holiday (-:
As humans, all we were meant to do is live. That’s exactly what you are doing. Simple life pleasures rather than being a slave of capitalism❤
ooh nicely put, and yes of course i concur 😃
Humans are meant to reproduce. Just like all other species that exist.
This is what I wish people understood.
We we're meant to just LIVE.
Time and freedom are the most important assets :)

You are living a life I strive to. Work in the US is a rat race. Hope my wife and I can make that leap and transcend ourselves!
Life is too short to be trapped..

Wonderful video as always. I’m not sure it’s getting smaller it’s just a little
This is a new definition of a luxurious living.
Love this video, can watch it again and again.
thank you Jan, glad the video resonated 🤗
@@JeanVoronkovahello hope all is well. Jocelyn and I miss your weekly videos and words of wisdom. And so peaceful thoughts.
