Certain mysteries may be left in the darkness forever. But that's fine... That is how a Mystery keeps his charm. I wouldn't truly want to ruin it, would you?
The Duke is my favorite character. Who or what exactly is he? Will we see him again in RE9? What I personally hope for is that if we do see him again, he plays an even bigger role. What I mean is, what if you sold him an item that aided the enemy? He *is a merchant after all* so wouldn't he sell it to the one who needs it most. That would confirm that he's a neutral character, but it could go a different way.
The reason I say RE9 is because it's supposed to be a part of a trilogy. Meaning RE7, RE8, and RE9. At least I hope for another one. *SPOILERS TO RE8 DOWN BELOW* And at the end of RE8 it says, "end of the father's story."
I don't actually think he would. There were pretty clear signs, including the phrase on the crest in his wagon, that he's actually pretty virtuous. For some reason or another, he specifically wanted to support Ethan on his whole adventure in the village. We know nothing about his motives, but he seemingly knew quite a bit more about Ethan than the lords themselves.
@@BloodAssassin the duke meeting rose in re9 Ah yes I have been waiting for you Ms. Winters Rose:who are you Duke: Forgive my manners Allow me to intoduce myself call me the duke your father was a personal friend
I think the answer to Duke’s mystery is simple: he’s the fifth Lord. Or, perhaps, was. As we saw many times during the game, each Lord has his own sigil. And the owl in Duke’s carriage could be his own. That would also explain Dimitrescu’s scheduled meeting with him, his inhuman physique and an ability to access otherwise dangerous locations. But that raises the question: why would Miranda keep him around? Neutral merchant isn’t a good thing to have, especially when his presence is half the reason why your enemy is still alive and knows exactly what to do to stop your plans. Besides, if he was exposed to the Cadou, his mutation, from the look of things, doesn’t look too useful. Someone as cunning as Miranda would never let such a liability live. And yet, she does. For what reason? This is where I have a theory. Remember Megamycete? And how Rose was practically resurrected by it? And that after the destruction of the mold’s source she is still alive and kicking? That might be because this is not the only source of infection. Which means Miranda is still alive, preparing for her return. But how does this ties up to Duke, you may ask? Now, remember how every time we killed a Lord, we acquired their organ, crystallized form or something deeply connected to their mutation? And how we, without a second thought, sold them all to Duke? Think for a second: we just gave a merchant, who for some reason was allowed to roam the village and sell you ammunition and weapon upgrades (just to name a few), a DNA samples of some of the most powerful mutants in RE universe. Did the question ,,why those corpses cost much than precious minerals I’ve collected” ever crossed your mind? I think you understand what my point is. One way or another, I believe this is not the last time we meet The Duke. After all, *,,where there’s coin to be made”*
An interesting take, however I think he is more than just another lord. After all, not only did the four lords each have a place for him in their homes, he openly defied Miranda on some things (the note with the newspaper). This seemingly implies the duke is on Miranda’s level of influence
He definitely isn't a 5th lord. That idea was scrapped in the early stages of development, so they wanted something more mysterious for him. I wouldn't say his physique is inhuman either. Inhuman would be someone like Moreau. I think The Duke just happens to be an obese guy naturally, which is unrelated to the powers he has.
The duke is aware of his existence and im damn sure he know everything about the player past ,future and present in real life .Its sound wierd but its true
Easily, Duke is the greatest merchant since the one from RE4. Though great doesn't always mean good. His motives are what bug me, so too is that gigantic body of his. Allow me to explain: When Ethan first meets Duke, that's at the entrance of Castle Dimitrescu. His first thing he says is, "I've been waiting for you, Mr. Winters." "How do you know my name?" That's a perfectly fair question to ask when you think about it. How on earth did he know this prior to meeting Ethan. The only possibility I can imagine is if he was around Mother Miranda and she mentioned it to him. You must understand that Miranda views everyone as experiments, much like Alexia Ashford did back in Code Veronica. "Anyone who's everyone has heard of the likes of you." This would imply that Miranda told everyone at the Village, but the Villagers don't know who he is? This confuses me. If everyone knows all about him, wouldn't that be taken quite literally? Instead, only the important characters know that he exists. "Although, I must say, that castle does arouse suspicion." This feels like he's guiding Ethan through his adventure, you'll notice this quite a bit as you progress. "Oh yeah? Well so do you." Well, yes, in a desolated village, you just so happen to be selling merchandise of all things and in regards to weapons for the most part? It's as if he already knew about all this and prepared for all of it in advance. "I'm just a humble merchant." Regressing back to my earlier point: Here of all places does feel very suspicious for obvious reasons. "Here?" A village that has been used as a testing bed for experimentations of the molded hivemind is not a place that I'd typically expect to see someone wanting to ignite commerce at. Let alone at the front gate of a royal family castle to which you meet him at directly after he saw Lady Dimitrescu for their business meeting. My theory is that he's biding his time and preparing his resources through business. Either that or this was all a part of Miranda's elaborate planning. In case you guys haven't noticed it already, I'll just point it out: This man is motherfucking *HUGE*. There's no way in God's Green Earth that this is normal for anybody. Pay attention to how he reacts when you're around him, you'll occasionally see him convulsing and seizing up before composing himself. This detail I find to be particularly interesting. This leads me to believe that The Duke's fat is not really fat at all. It's his actual body and the convulsing is him trying to maintain that body. This is the best that he can do to make himself as human as possible. It's also worth mentioning that in the earlier concepts of The Duke, it shows that he was originally meant to be a lord that Ethan would have fought. This was scrapped of course in favor of him being the new Merchant. Actually, I believe that it wasn't entirely scrapped. In his caravan, there is a symbol or crest that looks very similar to the other lords' sigils. Clearly a sign of nobility. Duke is also a title of nobility. Capcom aren't really being very subtle here, you know. Quite the opposite, in fact. I believe that he was to some degree working with Miranda, though not directly. The reason why he was helping Ethan was to get money from him for his own purposes. 'The whole gathering his resources thing' and such. He knows way too much and happens to be always one step ahead no matter what. How? That's my question. He knew about the flasks, this would imply that he was aware of her plans that I would imagine Miranda keeping to herself and the other lords. It's unlikely that he was with Heisenberg even though he was sighted at his factory a couple of times. Heisenberg made it quite clear that his goal was to stab Miranda in the back. The Duke however knew everything like the rest but prepared Ethan knowing that Ethan was unique. Yes, I would even go so far as to say that Duke knew Ethan's secret if he knew about Rose Winters and the flasks as well and how to reverse it so Rose could be reassembled.
Can I say I think they should have made the order of bosses a bit different. First Beneviento, then Moreau, then Dimitrescu and finish with Heisenberg and Miranda. Definitely underestimated how popular lady D was gonna be. Could have played up a rift between the lords i.e Alcina and Salvatore vs Donna and Karl.
I think it’s cool that one of the more powerful characters got killed off 1st to spice it up. Lady D also provides a sort of return of the “Invincible Big Fucker Following you around” vibe famous to resident evil.
