    Nice video. In my market Benchmark Bonded is generally within a $1 of the price of the VOB-100. But the reality is most of the $15-25 Bourbons (Early Times, Evan Williams, etc.) all are surprisingly good for the money. Cheers.

    I've never seen that bourbon here, but I hope to find it some day.
    4:53 It would be interesting to take two bottles of the same thing, open both, immediately pour a sample of one, let the other bottle sit for say a month and pour a sample of that, and then later on do a blind. It would, I hypothesize, show that it's not the "neck pour" that (sometimes) is worse than the rest of the bottle, but simply the lack of interaction with the air.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  11 месяцев назад +1

      There’s a video for that, and forget two different bottles as they may be from different batches. How about the same exact bottle where the first 2oz are put in a sample jar and 6 months later the last 2oz are put in a second sample jar, and that matchup is dropped into our head-to-head sample pool and tasted completely double blind?

    I couldn't remember the name of the bottle that in my opinion, shouldn't even be sold in liquor stores, but in a camping supply store right next to the Colman lantern fuel until this video showed up in my feed. I have 51 open bottles (just counted) in the house and several as high as 125 or so proof and they are perfectly fine so it's not my inability to tolerate high proof bourbons! I had a handle of this and dumped 1/3 of it down the sink (never thought I would ever be doing that) and refilled it with Evan Willians black label and it was still undrinkable? I have never had the 80 proof Very Old Barton so I can't speak for it. I enjoy watching your guy's videos and have actually made purchases based on them but didn't need to watch this one, it couldn't possibly change my mind! Look forward to your next video & 🥃Cheers!

    At one point it was a 6 year age stated bottled in bond. Then the 6 year age statement went away (though they still arbitrarily left the #6 on the neck label) but it was still bonded. Then a few years ago, they removed the bottled in bond designation but kept it at 100 proof. I think the quality declined somewhat. It's still ok for $15 or $16, if you can get it at that price level. Some places are charging a lot more for it for some unknown reason (people think they're getting a cheap 1792 bonded or even a Buffalo Trace???).

    These "budget" reviews are phenomenal. I'm in my mid-40s, but I just discovered bourbons. So, i kinda went crazy at the end of 2023. My bank account wants me to find sub-$45 bottles to enjoy. So, keep up the great work.
    Side note/request: can Josh recommend a sub-$200 bottle that provides a flavor bomb experience that a person can enjoy while listening to the 9 minutes of bliss provided by "Parabol/Parabola"? The $500 WT product from the previous blind is out of my budget.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  10 месяцев назад +1

      I've seen this question and thought about it for days now trying to come up with the right answer. Parabol/Parabola is such an amazing piece of music and one of Tool's best so the pour has to live up for sure. I know I'd reach for an amazing single barrel of some sort, likely from Nashville Barrel Company (that's what I put in the glass hip flask to accompany me to see Tool live last month). Some of the Jim Beam Hardin's Creek special releases would be a good fit as well, any Lucky Seven 14 or 15 year Proprietor single barrel you can find, Jack Daniel's SiB Barrel Proof rye if you get a great single barrel, any Stagg bourbon batch if you can find one under that price point, and I'd also throw in any Four Gate Kelvin Collaboration release and anything Four Gate does with port-finished rye (Ruby Rye Springs, Port PerryPerry, etc). Cheers and spiral out!

    Curious how it compares to regular, not 100 proof version which I can find, but can't find the 100 proof. I've tried the non 100 proof, and it's not bad, but not great, and it runs about $25 here so, there are still other things I'll buy instead. If you've tried the regular version let us know how they compare.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  10 месяцев назад

      Good question. We’ve not had the 90 proof version so unfortunately can’t speak to the differences. At $25 we’d easily pass though. Too many great things at that price point that are more flavorful around the 100 proof mark.

    Airing whiskey makes a huge difference in my opinion. There have been many bottles I have purchased after hearing rave reviews where the first glass was not that great. A few days later after going back to the same bottle the flavor profile came through and the bottle shined like all the reviews I heard. I now am in the habit of opening a bottle and putting it away for a day or two before trying.

Especially the sound (your visual stuff goes without saying-top notch) I used to do video productions eg: wedding videography, local commercials ect. and it was always said you can have great video but if your sound was weak it dragged down your product big time but if your sound was good you could get by with less than good video. I really enjoy VOB. I recently bought a bottle of VOB 86 and it is really quite enjoyable for about $11. As a mixer, it falls a bit flat but neat or with a single ice cube it is excellent. I think a head to head against Dant, JTS Brown BIB, OF 100, or EW BIB would be interesting however, I think it would fall to the middle of the pack against those. But, for a simple yet enjoyable pour, it's hard to beat VOB

    Don't see this bottle in my area. The real inexpensive bottles around me is EW bib Benchmark bonded and single barrel which is my favorite from Benchmark 1783 and OGD bonded. There are others but I haven't had them. I'm a big rye drinker and there are several inexpensive bottles that I get. Nice video good to know if I see this I'll pick it up. Enjoy!!
