Shooting for 30 years and I learned a lot in this video. I switched from an older DSLR to a newer mirror less and also changed brands so in someways, it’s like starting over again trying to learn everything. I’ve been the guy with the out of focus image before and its brutal. Thanks for getting me up to speed.

James, solved another mystery of mine from about 6-7 years ago. I was out in Sedona, AZ - beautiful place for landscapes, especially in morning or evening. I took some landscape shots in the evening all the away through sunset. When I got home I couldn't believe how few were actually sharp. The problem, I just set it to f22 and figured I would be okay!!! Now I know why and I won't make that mistake again!
BTW, been peeking through your videos and channel and you have some great and super timely content! I have one simple word for you: Thumbnails. They matter! You have less than one second to grab a viewer, and often that's all they see. Great work and keep on!
Hey james . I try to shoot landscapes with my 100 400 gm lense as well.. when mounted on tripod it still shakes a bit when my do image zoom for focussing.. do u still recommend turning the IS on the lense and camera to be off ..
Hey Dipesh, yes it's v difficult to get pin sharp photos when zooming so far. If you can keep the tripod super steady and go through all the tips here, try to take a photo with all stabilization OFF first and see if that helps. But if there is any wind that your tripod is not dampening, then I would turn on the cameras stabilization and see if that helps!
@@JamesLavish i guess had to turn it on .. at occasions.. yesterday for example i tried moonscape with sydney tower in foreground of moon .. i also used a 2x tc on 100 400 .. had to turn is on .. thanks for the videos and sharing your knowledge
@@DipeshMehrotra Ah that's a tough one, I would probably composite two focus shots: foreground (tower) and background (moon), if near infinity focus won't work for the aperture setting in that type of photo.
Ah, on Sonys, there is a setting to choose the way the camera focuses called flexible spot. You can choose the size (small, medium, large) and then have it focus anywhere on the screen. Usually the best spot is a place where there is high contrast (like at the edge of the object your choose). Then set your focus and take the photo. Make sense?

Some people just dont edit in any way , i have a bunch of buddies they put most peoples puctures to shame without the card leaving the camera , iv learnt a lot over the years , but as the sensors get bigger the more critical you need to focus in the correct place , using apsc or dx focusing is less critical .

You know I love the desert ... it's mysterious and can be either moon-cold or blazing hot, depending on the mood of the photog. Loved this video.
