- In today's landscape photography video, it is Autumn and the colours are changing. I sleep on location in my camper van and wake up to dull weather conditions, but it was calm and the colours were vibrant. After a couple of images under grey skies, I set up for a composition that depended much more on light, but by this time the light was very harsh. My intention was to blend images to make a composit photograph, but after lots of patience the conditions came together and I was able to get the image in a single shot.

I really love nature photos. I admire your patience in waiting for the best light to shine
Absolutely love these types of videos from you Thomas . They almost seem quite personal . Like a wee day out with you . Brilliant Camera work too!! Loads of cut shots and perfectly matched scenes . Well done . I know it takes a lot of time to do this type of thing (unless you had a camera operator) so just want to say that we all really appreciate it . Thanks . oh . great images as usual .
"Why do i always loose my lens caps?", Story of every photographer!
I have been binging all your videos lately and can't get enough. I love how calm each video is and your enthusiasm for getting the perfect shot, even at 5am! Well done!
I loved seeing you so excited taking photographs in the middle of the day.
Only in 15 seconds and I love it already! (And that hand-held shot at 20:25 was so nice. Beautiful contrast between the glowing birch trunk and the background.)
Stay on your adventure! Best episode yet! Wonderful image you took there at the end! One of your best!
I love going out, not knowing what I’m going to get, or chasing a sunset in the car through country lanes like a storm chaser. Most of my best images are the surprise ones. Thanks for the inspiration Tom.
Most enjoyable. Now there is a shot for next years calendar.
I love the handheld shot. There is something magical about holding the viewfinder to your eye and pressing that stress relieving shutter.
I enjoy when it's a bit all over the place. The wondering around ,not knowing what your going to photograph . Keep having fun.
These vids from Thomas are always my favorite. Just get in the wild and let the camera roll.
That's it, that's all you need to do. Go and see what you see :)
Great images this week Thomas and you looked a bit more relaxed now the big announcement has been made 👍
Final image taken in my favourite spot, so peaceful and many intricate details within the larger vistas. Stunning. Keep up the fantastic work Thomas. All the best.
Really enjoyed the scene of you walking up and seeing the shot and getting it handheld with no commentary. A special moment that I really resonated with.
One thing I'm excited about is your trip to Nepal, Tom! Good luck on your trip here!
Hey Thomas, loved the background sounds on this one, keep being awesome to the people listening to your explorations!
Been in Antarctica and this trip is really "special offer". Can highly recommend going on this trip - mine in 2015 was the trip of a lifetime. Even to make this trip possible at this kind of price - wow!
Totally makes sense. Just have to get out and enjoy it.
Great video Tom with stunning images, I love these type of videos where you get out and about in the wilderness, your patience is to be admired and that’s what we love about your videos👍 Congratulations to you and Brendan with the Antarctica trip next year it sounds amazing 👍
Absolutely incredible images. My favorite kind of videos from you mate. Thanks 👌👍👍
I just love your vlogs. I'm not a pro like you, but I find I get my best compositions when I walk about with an empty mind (don't say it), and if something catches my eye I always look again and look for a shot. It's normally a difference in light or colour that gets the eye, but there's always a reason why something catches your eye in the first place. Looking for a particular shot is not easy and can be quite frustrating, but unless I have planned a shot I try to keep a clear head, and it works consistently.
Love the casual pace and just going out to see what you can find. I often suffer from the thinking you described and it prevents me from getting out there. Lovely images. The Antarctic Polar cruise sound absolutely fabulous! Unfortunately I can't commit to that as I have spent $++ to go to Lofoten in Feb from Australia which costs nearly as much to get there as the tour cost. I'm sure the cruise will be a raging success! Hoping another opportunity will occur in a couple of years. Cheers the Great South Land.
Stunning as always. Loved the last image.
Love the squelching sound effects. Also very encouraging to see professionals make the same mistakes us mere mortals, eg hand in shot (not deliberately) and losing lens caps 🤣😂. Would dearly love to come on the trip but just can’t afford it - two trips already next year 😢. Great to understand your thought processes and see them put into action. 👍👍
That last Image was so blessed beautiful!
Morten right off the bat! Yessss!!!!!
Love that shot! Excellent contrast of light. Can't wait to see you guys in Antartica, oh man, that will be monumental.
Such beauty Thomas.
I really enjoy these simple videos, using simple in the best way possible. Just a guy out in nature with his camera talking about photography and being honest. The videos that have perfect production and tons of b-roll have their place but I much prefer videos like this one. Also, don't apologize for "being all over the place". I really think it helps the rest of us relate, not everything goes according to plan and nobody is perfect at what they do. Thanks again!!!
The ship your sailing on, the head chef is a good friend of mine haha
heading up there in a few weeks so hoping the autumn colours hang on. Great to see you had the 4 seasons in a day treatment! Lovely image in the end, well done for waiting it out.
Awesome video. And wow, what a lineup of talent for the Antarctic expedition!!!
Another fantastic video. Thank you Thomas for your work and inspiration !
Beautiful colors. Great pictures!
I just love your exploration on your own Tom , beautiful image.
Awesome photos Tom.
Great video. Lake District is gorgeous.
How I'd love to be there rather than long days and evenings in the office. Thanks for the reminder
Paul Collingridge try a day of video and photo editing. Sometimes I run around the house naked just to get the blood flowing.....no really. 🐼🤣🥂🧟♂️
Lake District liquid sunshine. You can't beat it!
Couple of really nice images there Tom . Patience is a virtue as they say lol 👍
great way to end a Wednesday night thanks
It's been a pleasure to watch the whole video. Fantastic journey! Very honest, with lot's of mood; fantastic video :D
Congrats on your dream team list of photographers! Cream of the crop of serious artists.
Youre one of the most genuine people on here - just thanks for that
Wonderful video. I shoot with my 85mm L glass often for landscapes. I love it. Awesome to see you using the 85!
Wonderful video, one of your best ever IMO!
got some lovely shots, especially the last one!
Great vlog Tom, and one of the best photographs I’ve ever seen of Castle Crag.
Lake District Rain. It doesn't fall from clouds, it just teleports in and jumps you before you're ready. Haha! Lovely shots, Thomas. I do love the area (apart from the midges) and would love to visit again some day.
Fantastic video. Actually the B-Roll shots were great too. The last image was a stunner.
Wonderful and enjoyable video Thomas!
Such humility, this is why we want our polar experience to be with you. Only 12 cabins left, yikes.
Fantastic video and that last image, just wow 😲📷
Great video! I definitely take the mindset that it’s about the image, but about getting out there and seeing things you otherwise wouldn’t have if you didn’t have a camera.
Speaking of, I was/am super excited about the Antarctica trip and already put down my deposit! I look forward to meeting you and everyone else in 2020!
Good luck and all the best for the conference Thomas, is sounds like a fantastic idea mate...
Finally - been waiting anxiously :)
Enjoyed the video Tom. And the words of encouragement. Thanks..
Real life landscape photography! Excellent vlog. Thanks
Really enjoyed that vid Thomas. Keep up the great work .
Lovely light and colours - worth the rambling to get there. :-)
You always make me chuckle
Gavin n unc grumpy will be in tears not being invited 🤣 ....will be an epic trip ...enjoy !
That backpack is HUGE! That must make carrying your equipment a chore!! :). Love your videos.
You had me at Morten Hilmer.
Hello Thomas!Since I've been watching almost all of your videos. I thought about to annoy you a little bit commenting to all your videos form now on hahahah. Love your work. Such an inspiration.
Nice video Thomas. I really liked the style of this one. It comes across as very natural and not over produced, but I appreciate the amount of work that you must've put in to achieve this. No unnecessary background music is the clincher for me. Your vids are going from strength to strength. Keep it up.
Very enjoyable watch. Thank you!
Awesome video Thomas :) Love the light in the last shot! Also really stoked you are going to Antarctica with Julia Trotti , I watch both channels and i'm really happy to see both of you going on this trip.
An excellent example of real life photography in every way, Kudos. And yes, it all made perfects sense. You had great suggestions and exhibited how to make the best of weather, time of day, subject matter, etc. Most of us take what we get when we can. I recall one guy at a state park "Not going to shoot it, the light is bad" well, also not ever coming back again SO -do what you can while you can, it's not coming again.
A great video with some great images as always. Amazing how you can make such a long video interesting.
Amazing landscape shot you ended up with!
Awesome image! Loved it. it might be a candidate for next years calendar :-)
Awesome video, thanks for bring us along with you ....
one of the best videos you have done in a while tom really enjoyed it :)
Good vlog. Good photo. Good everything. Thnx Thomas
Great video Tom and best of luck with your trip to the Antarctic, I hope it's a great success :)
Great photos Tom, first time I see you shot a beautiful landscape image without a tripod! I wish I could join you guys in Antartica, and even living in Brazil (which is closer to Antartica) it's god damn expensive all the way...
awesome video, thank you for this beautiful images
Watching you fall in that bog gave me traumatic flashbacks to my last hike in the Lakes. I still don't think my hiking boots are dry. Lovely video. :)
I'm going to do just that today, just go out with the camera :D
Thank's for the inspiration :)
I think this is the first time I see you taking a photograph without using a tripod :D. Also, great multi-cam angle work! Assuming that you do it all on your own without any help, that's a lot of work! Congrats!
Back to original Heaton! Great!
Good to hear you are teaming up again with Morten Hilmer - fantastic guy.
Man, your B-roll is really great in this video! It must have been *exhausting* to film! Thanks for taking the time.
Antarctica sounds a lot of fun!
Cool. Enjoyed that!
Love these videos, like you said, I picked a specific area that I wanted to go to with me friend to do some photography.
Another great video (eventually), No really, some awesome shots, would love to go on the trip to Antarctica but just lost my job so will have to wait till your next big adventure.
18:16 It's actually a lot of fun to do that kind of thing via motorcycle. Head down and around scenic byways, highways, national park roads, etc. I can park just about anywhere someone can stand :)
Just want you to know, I really enjoy those quiet moments in nature you give us sometimes. It creates a viewing experience I can only compare to big budget nature documentaries, only with a much more personal, honest touch. It's incredibly inspiring, and I thank you for essentially doing several "takes" of reality just to give them to us.
I really enjoyed this video Tom. You appeared far more relaxed and at ease with what you were shooting. Also goes to show that you don't need to fly to far away exotic countries to enjoy incredible landscapes and shoot incredibly stunning pictures.
And I should add, not a single frame of you making yourself a cup of tea! :-)
I so relate to everything you believe, mate. Loved this video. 👍🦘🇦🇺
I know it isn't your normal style of vlogging, but I do rather enjoy when you just let the camera roll and you tend to waffle on a bit. It's fun and entertaining getting to listen to what's going on inside your head. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your videos every Wednesday and Sunday
Great last shot 🙂
Thats a beauty
Tbh I like these sort of haphazard videos. Just going with the flow, great to watch. If I had a van like yours I don’t think I’d ever be at home.
Awesome! I'm in Spain atm photographing. Nice landscapes!
Brilliant advice and content mate 👍
Bucket list - Antarctica! But sadly there is no way I can join you anytime in the next year. Oh man, I cannot wait to see your videos from and photos from there. Wow. What a cool trip!
Tested your walking boots there. A very natural unplanned video. Liked it.
Awesome vlog. I do like the length of it.
