I was a bit curious.. but hey! A little freeform cinematography never hurt anyone.. much, anyway. 😉 I was actually going to comment how good the b-roll is on this video. Reminiscent of Sean Tucker's work somehow..
It reminded me to say thanks for the calendar! February's image is absolutely superb - I remember watching your vlog on taking that image and being so impressed with the effort it took and the beauty of that morning that we wouldn't have seen without you being there to record it. Thank you again !
Nice to have you back in Scotland, I hope you enjoy your stay. The colours are superb at the moment, especially in Dunkeld which is my favourite haunt, and the Argyll areas.
I always find your videos refreshing and authentic Thomas. Keep up the great work and may your sojourns around this earth reveal its beauty to you for many years.
A truly superb video Tom, I especially liked the opening few minutes, no talking, calm serene music, followed by the scenes of woodland and water, what more could anyone want at the end of a busy working day, once again Tom many many thanks.
Sat chilling, enjoying this very chilled ep, lots packed into this, not thinking anything much as it’s late, as you do. When I see a thumbnail with my big mush at the end!! 😬 thanks Tom, means a lot, would be good to meetup one time 👍 me and the family loved our time around your stomping ground of Northumberland. I will return. Take care, sithee 👍
@44sec this would have made a cool photograph on it's own, love it. Never too many videos from you Thomas, appreciate all that you share, cheers. PS you are not alone in looking for the perfect tree! lol.
Oh dear! What a great pity the sky was so poor, Loch Ard is a fantastic location. Difficult to know where the sweet spots are if you have not studied it, chance of an Osprey.. If you had just gone over the Dukes pass, you would have woken up to heaven, the mist would have framed the wonderful Loch Achray, spectacular angle for an Autumn sunrise and view.Have a wonderful trip through Scotland.
Thanks Tom, I really enjoyed this video! Glad you finally got your van fixed. And thanks especially for the composition tips for finding the tranquility in the lake photo. Very helpful!
Hey Thomas, thanks for the wonderful, relaxing and inspiring videos. I really do enjoy beeing able to watch your creative process. Just keep an eye on not burning out from that much of content output. Greetings from Germany! ✌️
Thomas, hello, I had always loved overcast days, Years ago,,with 35mm film, beautiful saturation,,of aspen trees, single yellow maple trees ,any yes sometimes in the mist, these from this lot are SUPER, THANKS, for your truck, Cheers From, NJaUSS🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸
Best film yet Thomas. The scene where you are describing the shot of the reeds and the loch was wonderful. Really helpful and instructive. It was really good to see you work the scene. 👍
We moved from central England to South Ayrshire (just up from Galloway) late last year and it rekindled my interest in photography - and indirectly, to your channel. Glad you appreciate the beauty of this place as much as me - every season has it's moments but Autumn is stunning. Great explanation during the loch-side shot btw. Must follow up on the van stuff, that really appeals. Look forward to the next one and enjoy this fine country!
I was cursing Thomas Heaton the past couple hours while in the woods with miserable conditions, driving snow and bitter cold wind. In all seriousness I’ve been binge watching your channel and wanted to thank you for the time and effort you put in to the making of your videos. The content and images are fantastic, I learn a lot, and they motivate me to get out and shoot. Even on days like today.
Mr Heaton, This is the best of your's! What an amazing opening - and the way you mix your passions of landscapes, the art of capturing the view and chasing the opportunities to doing it (the van power stuff amongst...) - it's fantastic! Thank you!
Great photos Thomas!. Liked the one over the lake, that was great, about the time of the " Calendar Advertising Pitch!" HA! Awesome Place Scotland! Enjoy!
I went to Loch Ard yesterday to try and find your tree. Unfortunately i went round in circles looking at every small Larch tree, but couldn't find your masterpiece lol! You put me in the mood for trees Thomas. Enjoy your Scottish trip ;-)
Bob Ross!!! Love watching that bloke. Great film Tom. I too, on a good day, photo shoot end up shhoting everything and yet go home with nothing - well I used to. I watched a RUclips film of you with a couple of American people critiqueing (in a mostly positive way) people's photo's. What you said about negative space, the photos being too busy and the statement "I don't dislike it, but what am I looking at, what's the focal point and subject??" really helped me. As a result I'm far more selective and understand that some days, this means I can come home empty handed. But it's opened my eyes to composure of the picture more. ....in theory.
Hi Thomas. Glad you got the van sorted. Absolutely love the west coast of Scotland - just wish I’d done more photography there before emigrating to Aus ☹️. One of those areas I could spend weeks exploring. Did wonder about the calendar “intrusion”. Needn’t have bothered - already got mine, thanks 👏👍
love that lake, I could sit there all day in the quiet, in the rainy-misty weather and love every minute of it. If I got a photo out of it , brilliant if not ,still brilliant. They still show Bob Ross shows here in the USA. I used to paint and always enjoyed his show.
Glad to see you back in Scotland. Calm and at a pace where the mind and body works well in conjunction of a zen like pose. Would be great to see you around Argyll's Secret Coast such as Tighnabruaich, in the meantime enjoy tour trip and stay safe. Paul Paterson Photography
Hello Tom, it was good to see you introducing some drone images and the footage was perfectly balanced in how much you showed. I look forward in seen more of your videos which are packed with useful information. Thank you for sharing.
Great vlog Tom, I just love them peaceful images so soothing! Totally agree with your thought process with taking your time and eliminating distractions
It is awesome Thomas that you got a friend to help you put a solar panel on top of your van But from the overview you should have put at least three for maximummaybe even 4 would have fit on top of your van
Just finished watching Steve O'Nions and his vlog extolling the work of Elliot Porter. Muted colors and intimate, using Portra 400. I get the same impression from this video. Maybe it's the time of year, getting ready for winter. Certainly subdued and contemplative, yet very visceral. One of my favorite times of year. Great video!
Fantastic video mate. Photos are gorgeous. Glenco and Loch Ness areas are my favourite parts of Scotland. There is a beautiful woodland at spean bridge on the A82 between fort William and Inverness. Have a great trip.
very beautiful and tranquil pair of images Thomas and hope the rest of the trip goes well. Certainly can recommend the calendar. Got my signed copy and awaiting 2020 to arrive to get it up on the wall 👍
Absolutely back at the top of your game. The locked-down shots rather than a lot of GoPro stuff, the attention paid to editing as it was being shot -I would have sworn you were working with a crew including field producer. I don’t know what happened with the calendar B-roll insert over top of your narrative mid-way, but assume that was a glitch which will be remedied. It’s really good as a viewer to see your video ratchet back up to top form. You set a very high bar early on.
I knew at once you were in my neck of the woods! Sorry about the weather, it's been much better this week and the colours as you drive around (there's been more frost) are great. Great drone footage this week too. :-)
Nick Page reviewed a tripod once and approached why it was so tall as you could stretch out the base for stability. But what you said about the angle, the lower you go, the more sky in the photo. Dude! Sometimes your videos bore me because you're as chill as I am, and you're a brit which only works for women. But you know your shit. And I know if I want to watch a vid of landscape photography, you'll always be first on the list. I'm halfway through the vid while writing, so more to come. I love your channel so much!
There's a neighborhood in Issaquah, Washington, US called Trossachs. I did a lot of construction work in the late 90's. Beautiful area here. Not paying the closest attention caused me to think you were in the US for a second. Scotland looks lovely this time of year. Thanks for sharing.
One thing I really loved about this video was how, in setting up a scene - whether it was composing a photo or setting up a video scene - you found ways to build this fantastic background composition while framing up a totally different still image. It beautifully bridged the subject matter with your story and the message you were trying to get across. I don't know if this was intentional or happenstance but it really helped me to enjoy the entire video quite a lot more and I found myself getting more from it even intellectually than I had initially anticipated. Well done!
I wish i was there with you Thomas. It's only spring here in Melbourne but has been 35degC for last two days. Tonight we are expecting a "thunderstorm asthma" event, the last one killed quite a few people. I was born in Scotland and really keen to get back to the highlands but family commitments prevent me at the moment. Looking forward to your next few vlogs!
Thomas, you really need to visit Tasmania. I've been watching your video's for years now and I can tell you one thing, everything I see in your videos is here in Tasmania. Mountains, Lakes, Forests etc. On top of that, we also have animals, birds, again etc. It's worth a thought or two. Keep up the good work mate.
Loved the silent opening sequence, quite satisying to just watch with enough of the story being told to hold the attention, and I feel oddly compelled to buy a calender.
The auto-generated subtitles think the rain drops in the first seconds are applause. Guess it's a poetic way of saying thanks to an outdoor photographer. ;)
This episode was a perfect way to start my day! (Thursday morning in Australia). Yep, I was wondering about the calendar video in the middle of your description LOL! PS I have my copy on my desk waiting for 2020. I treasure these calendars as a yearly glimpse into the TH portfolio. Enjoy Nepal!
You know, your videos have such an relaxing style, great shots and those walking shots between photos! Also i loved how you put video of your calender in there, made me buy it even thou i am not even sure where to put it :D
Great storytelling Thomas. The video shows clearly that you had the tranquility to edit while in the van!... And by the way... You are getting better and better with the sound editing! Keep enjoying! Bye for now! ;)
15:36 was a massive balls up on my part 😂😂😂 Please feel free to skip 30seconds. Or you can buy my calendar 😩 What an idiot.
I was a bit curious.. but hey! A little freeform cinematography never hurt anyone.. much, anyway. 😉
I was actually going to comment how good the b-roll is on this video. Reminiscent of Sean Tucker's work somehow..
Thought it was some sort of product placement ;)
🤣
Is that American oil painter Bob Ross on a can of coke...?
It reminded me to say thanks for the calendar! February's image is absolutely superb - I remember watching your vlog on taking that image and being so impressed with the effort it took and the beauty of that morning that we wouldn't have seen without you being there to record it. Thank you again !
Nice to have you back in Scotland, I hope you enjoy your stay. The colours are superb at the moment, especially in Dunkeld which is my favourite haunt, and the Argyll areas.
Pucks glen is also magical ;)
I always find your videos refreshing and authentic Thomas. Keep up the great work and may your sojourns around this earth reveal its beauty to you for many years.

6:13 That is a BEAUTIFUL shot. And it's only B-roll!
Oh yay! It's great to see you finally bring your doggy out with you to enjoy the trip! Thumbs up for that alone!
I cannot get over these colors. I've never seen anything like it here. Gorgeous.
I don’t always have the time for your videos but when I do I’m thoroughly happy about them. They are such a relaxing experience to watch. Thank you!
Beautiful autumn in Scotland. Thanks, Tom, I always enjoy your videos. Cheers.
Sat chilling, enjoying this very chilled ep, lots packed into this, not thinking anything much as it’s late, as you do. "everything in Scotland is looking beautiful" aww Tom. That's the nicest compliment I've ever had!
I appreciate when you showed the difference between the reeds being int he reflection versus not. I found that helpful to learn that lesson.
@44sec this would have made a cool photograph on it's own, love it. Never too many videos from you Thomas, appreciate all that you share, cheers. PS you are not alone in looking for the perfect tree! lol.
Thanks for taking us along on your road trip. Glad you got the van fixed. Lovely pics, especially the last on of the Lake.
Glad to see you enjoying Loch Ard and the surrounding area. Lucky to have it 30 minutes from my front door!
6:04 now that is a stunning shot
Glad to see some of your classic drone views. It adds so much context to where you are. thanks
the intro was beautiful. Very cinematic, loved the framing, the cuts, no words.
Thanks Tom, I really enjoyed this video! Glad you finally got your van fixed. And thanks especially for the composition tips for finding the tranquility in the lake photo. Very helpful!

Best film yet Thomas. The scene where you are describing the shot of the reeds and the loch was wonderful. Really helpful and instructive. It was really good to see you work the scene. 👍
...raindrops, forest, autumn....Lovely
Heaton's style is unique.
Amazing when you stop looking and see the beauty, shots appear.
Beautiful scenery & excellent pics! Thx for sharing.

Perfect intro, no words needed, really relaxing and enjoying to watch!
First 2 and a half minutes! Beautiful!
Mr Heaton, This is the best of your's!

Great to see the drone shots!
Great vlog Tom, I just love them peaceful images so soothing! Totally agree with your thought process with taking your time and eliminating distractions
Great scenery , great photos!
Hey, Thomas.....great calendar!!! Glad I purchased it!!! Love the last capture on the loch with reeds. Beautiful image!!
This is your world Thomas, you can do whatever you want
Great video. Especially loved the crisp sound at the beginning. Odd calendar part half way in
It must feel absolutely crazy moving the cameras around yourself. You should do a video on the choreographing you do to make each scene work
Great video Thomas. So chilled and relaxing - a joy to watch! A great way to wind my day down so thanks for that! Keep up the great work 👍🏻👏🏻
This is what I needed this morning.... THANKS!!!
Awesome video Thomas, and some beautiful images, but then again you were in the most beautiful country in the world. Enjoy Scotland.
It is awesome Thomas that you got a friend to help you put a solar panel on top of your van
But from the overview you should have put at least three for maximummaybe even 4 would have fit on top of your van
This was a beautiful video! Thanks! And I had no idea that Bob Ross energy drink existed so thanks for that too! I have 4 cans coming. LOL
Was a pleasure dude, hopefully bump into you again soon!
The Trossachs are wonderful, pretty much a 20min drive from me. Love going there...
You are one of my favorite photographers, awesome content and an inspiration for me to get out with my camera. Keep up the good work.
That's very kind, thank you.
Just what I needed. These are my favorite videos mate.. beautiful Photography...

I so relate to that "perfect conditions" example you had there :)
Good to see the 304L back in use a couple times.
very beautiful and tranquil pair of images Thomas and hope the rest of the trip goes well. Certainly can recommend the calendar. Got my signed copy and awaiting 2020 to arrive to get it up on the wall 👍
Currently my part of the world. Love it

Good to see you in my part of the country, Clatteringshaws reservoir in Bonnie Galloway.
I knew at once you were in my neck of the woods! Sorry about the weather, it's been much better this week and the colours as you drive around (there's been more frost) are great. Great drone footage this week too. :-)
Absolutely loved this VLOG and the images ... it seemed to ooze calmness and serenity even with the 30 seconds hiccup 😁👌
All that fretting over shooting and yet you still make time for fantastic B roll. Amazing stuff.
Wonderful, wonderful woodland. Thomas is brilliant as always.
Nick Page reviewed a tripod once and approached why it was so tall as you could stretch out the base for stability. But what you said about the angle, the lower you go, the more sky in the photo. Excellent thoughts on composition. Thanks!
Marvelous, loved the pictures. Thanks
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Tom! Just being out in nature, enjoying the moment. And a bit of Bob Ross to boot :-)
Lovely simple image, gorgeous drone footage too..
Awesome video Tom! That Bob Ross energy drink at the end was icing on the cake.

13:37 i love this transition :)
Brilliant, the coming together of two of my favourite RUclipsrs 👍
Loved the silent opening sequence, quite satisying to just watch with enough of the story being told to hold the attention, and I feel oddly compelled to buy a calender.
The auto-generated subtitles think the rain drops in the first seconds are applause. Guess it's a poetic way of saying thanks to an outdoor photographer. ;)
Great video Thomas thanks for sharing the trip 👍🙏
Good work and beautiful pictures!
Tom I love the single tree golden with the green background.
I thought for the most it was one of your better videos in a while

Love the back stories!
dude, your masterpiece is brilliant in terms of photography and how to choose object to shoot, very nice
I love that misty lake picture.
I thought that was a nice little happy calendar you squeezed in there. :)
You know, your videos have such an relaxing style, great shots and those walking shots between photos!
Also i loved how you put video of your calender in there, made me buy it even thou i am not even sure where to put it :D
