ゴージャスでパワフルな真夏の２日間
ブルーノート東京の“真夏の風物詩”が今年もやってくる。ブルーノート東京オールスター・ジャズ・オーケストラでも活躍するスター・サックス奏者、本田雅人が自身のビッグバンド“B.B.STATION”を率いて2デイズ公演を届ける。同バンドは、原信夫とシャープス＆フラッツ、T-SQUAREへの参加を経て、ソロ活動を開始した本田が1997年に結成。趣向を凝らした選曲、エンタテインメント性に富んだ音作り、参加ミュージシャンの超絶技巧を駆使したプレイの数々が評判を呼び、結成から20年以上を経て現在も不動の人気を誇っている。ファーストコールの座に立ち続ける本田と仲間たちが奏でるビッグバンド・ジャズ。華やかなステージはその醍醐味を余すことなく伝えてくれるはずだ。

エリックさん、中川さん、本田さんのトリオが好き過ぎて観にきましたが、さらにその3方の意思というか精神というかを引き継ぐ若手がたくさんいらっしゃるのですね・・・。なんか色々込み上げてきて感動しました・・。

子供のころを知ってるのでここまで成長してるとなんかうれしい。
本田さんの凄いところは、自分の極上のテクニックのみならず、若手の育成に余念がないところ。
自分のテクニックを余すところなく若手に伝授している。
昔ライブハウスで、本田さんが私の当時まだ小さかった娘にサインをくださったが、
その時の子供への応対が素晴らしかったのが非常に印象的。

Senri Kawaguchi is freaking awesome but everyone is just a god in this band. I'd pay anything to be in front of them!
My favorite drummer. Luna Watanabe, alto sax, a teenager, standing next to her mentor trading leads is another prodigy from Japan. But, yeah, said below - everyone in the band is simply awesome. I've seen these folks live - completely off the charts. Kawaguchi, a genius.

@@vincentgallagher7562 Your comment is the first one I found that answered what I HAD TO KNOW - "who is the young lady playing alto?" Maybe I’ve been living under a rock - this is the first time I’ve seen her. Unbelievable, blistering chops to be sure, but it’s that other thing - passion, soul, whatever you call it, she has GOT IT!!! All the more unbelievable considering that she’s tearing it up just a couple feet away from the great Masato Honda, and AFTER Senri had blasted the walls away with that “DG” groove and on-fire drum break! Luna Watanabe - I’ve got to see more of her. Now that my pulse has slowed down a bit I should add that the trombone solo was excellent (Eijiro Nakagawa?). Eric Miyashiro’s solo was tasty, and that the tune and the whole band are great.
Masato Honda NEVER misses!

I think in the future Kanade Sato will have a chance to play for this musical organization. She will be able to handle it.
I sure do hope that happens. Kanade is great at anything she chooses to do - I'll just say that the Blue Note AllStars, or Masato Honda is closer to my musical preferences than the rock guitar sound of her Muses band, altho I enjoy them too. And I think "able to handle it" is a bit of of an understatement, don't you? And I'll bet that, like Senri, she'll look really great wearing a black vest!
i @peterb7923 Kawaguci holds that seat. Not that it is a contest; but doubtful Kanade will dislodge Senri Kawaguchi. Kawaguchi, also has a newer recording that features top players from the Jazz Orchestra. And has performed in ensembles with Miyashiro and the top players from the brass section. No slight to Kanade, who is a tremendous musician. But, Kawaguchi is a genius and Miyashiro has appreciated her drumming for awhile - she displaced older, seasoned top professionals that performed with the jazz orchestra.
@@vincentgallagher7562 Thanx for the extra info. My comment “I hope that happens” wasn’t about Kanade dislodging Senri, but rather filling a vacancy, if Senri wants to devote more time to The Jazz Avengers. Of course, I’m really happy to see Senri continue with the Tokyo All-Stars - and I’d like seeing more Kiyo*Sen, and also a return of the Triangle trio - but that WOULD be asking an awful lot…
@@peterb7923 This band is a collection from the Tokyo Jazz Allstars: Note Miho Terachi, of the Jazz Avengers, holds a seat in the sax section with Tokyo Allstars - her regular gig along with leading her own ensemble. Terachi has a fine solo when Bob James was a guest performer with Tokyo Jazz Allstars, Weschester Lady - and perhaps you know of Harumo Imai, who now is a member of Tokyo Allstars. Initially, there were only two women in the band - which has changed as Miyashiro has taken full command. The number of talented young female jazz musicians in Japan simply amazes. Living in Japan is full of wonders. And music proliferates!
@@peterb7923 If anything, Kanade has gotten deeper into rock by way of KOIAI which has been
described as progressive metal . The hitting is harder/faster with simpler phrasing. Notably Senri
has also delved into metal. Last week (6/21/2024) she supported Saki (x-Nemophila) first solo
concert.

hello rupert I only can tell you that SENRI KAWAGUCHI the drummer of this japanese mini bigband had released two albums in 2013/14

Not the exact lineup, but years ago, under the same name(B.B.Station) they released a Live recording titled "Live at Roppongi Pit Inn"
The leader of the band, Masato Honda, has an extensive solo career. This piece is from his 2015 album ‘Saxes Street’. There are also 2 live albums as part of the BB Station project, one of which is comprised of his compositions and the other featuring Marlene on vocals playing some more well known jazz songs

And to your 2nd question: unlikely I think, since Sadao writes his last name as 渡辺 but Luna uses 渡邉
