Apparently, she has become the permanent drummer for the Tokyo Blue Note All Star Orchestra. She also has the top players in the band, on her latest album. A core group led by Miyashiro, performed here in Nara weeks ago - Senri anchored the band. Phenomenal. Simply incredible. Some of the finest msicians on the planet. The concert was in front of the ancient Kofukji Temple.
There is just one word for this band: ASSUME, GREAT!!! I would love to travel for a concert by BLUE NOTE TOKYO ALL-STAR JAZZ ORCHESTRA in Japan! Guys; just don’t stop and keep on going this great more and more of this great music and performance. Love this music on a Friday afternoon after work - then everything gets relative if you just keep listening to the great Jazz from Japan!
What a wonderful performance and excitement! !! Especially the rhythm section is great. I will see it many times. (Young but transcendental skill, powerful and brilliant drummer.) Superb playing and arranging!. Reminds me a bit of the last era of the Maynard Ferguson band. Terrific drive from the drummer. Great alto solo. Besides the artistic beauty of this band, is the fact that should you not be watching the video, but just listening, you don't know who's playing, neither where they are from. Agree 100%, although I'm familiar with most of the musicians - since that little fireball behind 'the kit' is none other than Senri Kawaguchi. She has many videos out here in which these players are featured. She's primarily a 'fusion' drummer; but has MASSIVE skills. 😁

Eric Miyashiro flugelhorn/trumpet/arrangement work is awesome. Love that mellow flugelhorn sound (ala Chuck Mangione). Don't stop here. There are a lot of Eric videos. I am a big band fan and there is no disappointment here.
Finally jazz in the "old way", with classical arrangements, excellent musicians who play with the "heart" ..... And congratulations also to the impeccable sound recording as well as a truly unsurpassed tuning of the senri drums. Thank you.
Just so so damm good. Up there with the best.. First time i have seen Senri with a band such as this. She is very professional but seemed a little restrained by the structure of the music. But boy is she good.
Senri is Japan's answer to Dave Weckl-she she can play and excel in any musical genre as proven here and her many posts with the Jazz Avengers. Her solos are impeccable and full of excitement and magical ideas. Dave... move over!

@@switchmuso I wondered, but you hit the nail on the head, it was definitely the "Smug Feeling of Vindication" that came through. I never got that feeling from Duke or Bird, who rightly had reason. But those feelings never came across in Their Music, at least not to me. It was only the Joy of being alive.

We all know Senri is great, but the sax solo at 7:08 is superb too! Actually, everyone's soloing is great, as well as the band as a whole. It would make a trip to Japan even more worthwhile if this band gets together at least once a year! And while you're there, maybe KIYO*SEN might do a gig or two in some clubs, as well!

昔、清和園で働いていた四関さんという方が好きだと言っていました。その方は、清和園辞めたあと確か、障害児施設で働いていた。そして、その仲良しの藤原さんは、私が清和園でパートになる前に短期間働いた「こひつじ園」で再会してケアマネやってましたその子は、清和園辞めたあと、留学して後に温泉街で住み込みで働いていたと風の噂で聞きました。

聞いたの何回目かなぁ。ビッグバンドはいいですね。名古屋ブルーノートがなくなってからほとんどビッグバンドが聞けなくなって（水野修平さんのビッグバンドぐらいです）寂しいなぁ。
コロナというネガティブな現象からそれでも新たな価値観を創造し歩みを止めないというポジティブな現象へ。まさにこれこそ未来的思考というヤツなのではないか。
