This is my translation from Japanese to English in purpose of educating the Western audience in a recent interview Hidenari Ugaki confirms that Majima will be in Like A Dragon 8

Honestly, I'm replaying the series and they really put him basically everywhere in 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 which are recent games, even though I still love to see him, I'm not against focusing more on others characters that got less development

If LAD8 will take place in 2024, Majima will be what, 58 years old? He's gonna be retired sooner or later and I'd prefer if he went out with a bang - one more Majima focused game. Considering he is partly responsible for how much the series' popularity exploded globally, I'd say he deserves it.
Nope, he'll be 60 exactly.
Remember, he was born in 64'. 60 years and still kicking (all while obtaining the fountain of youth).
I hope he actually has a purpose to be in LAD8, not a big one of course, and not just including him for the sake of fan service.

Not gonna lie, my first Yakuza game was LAD. I didn't recognize any of the characters other than Kyryu.
When Majima showed up for the first time, I was unexplanably happy, like if I was seeing a legendary character I didn't know of. Same for Saejima, but I felt he wasn't as "mythical". I knew those guys were important but didn't know why or where did they appear.
After playing all games from 0 to 6, Judgement Series and Ishin, I can say Majima is still my favorite character.
I feel like, despite the obvious comical relief that people love him so much for, he is the usual "cool 2nd protagonist/rival" stereotypes we see in anime and videogames, to name a few:
- Vergil (Devil May Cry Series)
- Vegetta (Dragon Ball)
- Sasuke (Naruto)
Additionally, we all know Majima can be a serious character when in need and Ugaki san has the range to take Majima to the next level if asked to, so I think I speak for everybody if I say we'd love to see more of Majima in future games and hopefully have him be a central part/coprotagonist of the games.

So they don't know what to do with him, they can't kill him, they don't have a story planned for him, and they can't just put him aside.

Imagine if it's still turn baseed they do a majima everywhere type of thing except when the gauges full you get to summon the guy as a straight up playable character once per battle.

For most of the series, Majima has been either a side character or a “glorified cameo” (5, 6, and arguably 7). Remember, after Yakuza 0, Majima was actually given *more* appearances in later games, like Kiwami and Kiwami 2. People need to understand that his appearance in the first Yakuza game (2005) Majima was described by one of the developers as a “clown character” meant to just contrast with Kiryu.
It doesn’t mean he needs to stay that way, and the series has given him plenty of development since then, but I’d argue that if they can’t find much to do with him, then I would rather they don’t shoehorn him into a story he doesn’t belong in.
fr fr, it's crazy to think about but considering how much of the cast died in that first game it's almost a weird quirk of fate that Majima survived and became more and more popular with each game. For me the most jarring transition (now that it's out in the west) is Ishin to 0. Because for me that's moment Majima went from "crazy guy that also sometimes drops "manly bro" wisdom" to being an actual character. In Y5 and Ishin (and every game prior to that) that's all he is, just some wackjob that also sometimes reveals he has extra depths, but his "exta depths" are just him being more of a cool bro. Majima in 0 was a real character, and every appearance since then has held true to that (with some minor conflict with Kiwami trying to stay true to the original whilst desperately trying to make it believable that this guy is Y0 Majima at the same time).

It might be! I'm no game programmer but whenever I try to imagine how they'd all translate into a turn-based setting all I can come up with is "Everyone is physical DPS who fill the exact same niche in the party".
Also he wasn't playable but I'd like to see Daigo in that party too.

I grew to like the cast of like a dragon 7 and judgement so even if I only get majima crumbs for 8 im still playing. I do love Majima tho so as long as they continue the series id be happy to keep seeing him until we get closure.
They really have no clue wtf to do with Majima, huh? Despite being the most interesting character surrounded in mystery and untapped lore, they are STUMPT! At least make him like Zhao or Joon Gi where they’re helpful in the shadows or some shit. Did they write themselves into a corner with Majima or something?
I honestly think they kinda did write themselves into a corner, in the original Yakuza1 he's a 2D character. He happens to survive when most characters die. Fans like him, so they really up the ante on the whole "is he's Kiryu's friend or enemy?", but by the time of Yakuza 4 they've fully tapped that well dry and stop using him as an ally or antagonist to Kiryu directly. IMO he's legitimately not a "real" fully fleshed out character until Y0, every appearance until then is just him being cool, crazy or badass without any middle ground, it's fun but it's not a character. After Y0 they clearly wanted to stick to the new characterisation (to the extent that Kiwami was at war with itself trying to keep the original cutscenes but also trying to make Majima still seem like a 3-dimensional character that isnt a piece of shit), and kinda gave him closure with Kiwami2.
The problem is where do you go from there? If Majima shows up in Y8 and has any meaningful character development, it'll piss a load of fans off regardless of the direction you choose. Does he turn away from the Mad Dog persona? Fans be pissed. Does he fully embrace the Mad Dog shit with no rhyme or reason for this actions? Fans be pissed. As someone who loves Majima, I worry this is a character that you cant explore anymore beyond dumb cameos unless you're willing to cut the fandom in half.

Sure a handful of fans wanna see him happily retire, while others wanna see him continue to be bat shit insane til he's 90. And then there are the fans who kinda wanna see him kiss Kiryu finally, but I digress. In short, yeah I can definitely see their point on "WTF do we do with Majima?!" And NGL, There are a lot of other characters who are extremely under written like that. RGG kinda has a bad habit of making under written yet very memorable characters, huh?

I started with 0 when I knew nothing of the series. I genuinely had no idea that Majima would turn Mad Dog. I didn't fully appreciate his character until Kiwami 1 and 2 where he became my favorite. Then the series seemed to go in a sideways direction and we barely saw him again. I still have to replay 0 and see if my opinion on him is any different.
