    awesome no frills straight to the point review mate! As a working professional mainly focused in wedding/event with a splash of fashion, This is a MUST HAVE. The time-saving efficiency it provides trumps all the minor gripes by a long shot!

    I just used it for a 12 hour wedding day, but I have the extended grip on my R5 and I don’t use any form of strap and it was fine, but I pretty much found myself using it with my left hand cupping the lens and holding it that way most of the time, which I kind end up doing when shooting anyway because I’m working the zoom. But also hit the gym. What we do is pretty physical so it’s probably important. If you’re having difficulty with a 3 pound lens then pumping a few dumbbells might help in that regard.

    Thank you Trent. I was on the fence about getting this lens. Initially, I loved the idea. I was able to use it during an event and was not quite impressed by what I saw. Not enough difference from the EF 24-70mm F2.8 to warrant the punishment from the increased SIZE and Weight and the LOSS of 24mm wide end. I looked everywhere for examples of the special prime look to make me think otherwise. No luck. I picked up 24-105 instead for video and studio work. Plenty sharp, stabilized and excellent range, weight, size. I have primes and 2 camera bodies if I need to switch between them super fast.

    As far as video work, some have commented about focus breathing. Did you experience any?

    • @TrentDangphoto
      @TrentDangphoto  2 года назад +2

      Yes, there is focus breathing with this lens. Very apparent when you go from minimum distance to infinity.

    Hi Trent, quick question I have RF 85 F1.2 and thinking of switching to 28-70. I mainly shoot portraits and weddings. I will be switching towards to hybrid to filmmaker. Do you think I should switch my 85 to 28-70? I already own the 15-35 & 70-200 F2.8. I currently have R6. Looking forward for your response

    • @TrentDangphoto
      @TrentDangphoto  2 года назад

      The 85mm f1.2 is superior in bokeh to the f2 but if you're a hybrid shooter than this makes or sence to update to 28-70 especially if you're a run and gun filmaker. This update will cover the rest of the focal lenght of 35-70mm.

    • @Makta972
      @Makta972 Год назад

      I would not do it. You already have the 15-35mm and the 70-200mm a prime makes more sense. Besides the 28-70 is not stabilized and got that huge filter thread. The mandatory VND will cost a fortune.. Not a good choice IMO

    • @kenhu6001
      @kenhu6001 Год назад

       I think it would be worth considering for sure. As mentioned above, you’re missing the 35-70mm range which is pretty important if you’re gonna film anything mid-range without everything looking super wide or a closeup most of the time. Having a prime will keep you fixed at one focal length which will then force you to have to change back to a zoom again once you get the shot. Also, lens stabilization won’t make that big of a difference since you mentioned you use an R6. The filter thread however will be an issue for VNDs.

    • @TrentDangphoto

      I used it for video and for the most part, the video is great looking at 28 without the jelly ibis feel. I mainly use it handheld (120 fPS) or on tripod for interview video.

    Would you recommend it for indoor college volleyball with the R3 - or would you say go with the 24-105 or 24-70? Thanks, great video.

    • @TrentDangphoto
      @TrentDangphoto  2 года назад +1

      If you already have a 70-200mm f2.8 and this is for the wide shot than it is a good choice because it is fast and bright and will create nice bokek, but if this is your only setup than the focal lenght of 70mm might be too short to fill the frame.

      @@horatiowong Currently I have the smallrig cage for the r5/r6 with the smallrig strap. The strap loosen and I have to keep on tugging on it to tighten it. I love the cage but I will have to try a different strap but for $11 it is not too bad for now.

    • @TrentDangphoto

      I have the Smallrig strap, it feels good but it does get loosen and I have to tug on the stap to tighten it. My friend has the Peak design and it is built better and does not have the loosening issue.
