    Can't believe you're covering this. Just started playing after eons of not playing and I've been all over the place with my stroke. I've tried "this way" and "that way" and attempting to copy the strokes of successful players. I had some success but was not consistent with that approach. Eventually I became disgusted and decided to just cue the way that feels natural to me. This worked to some degree since I know the fundamentals but hasn't worked really great. I knew there was something else I needed to be doing that I hadn't really thought of. And it dawned on me that I needed to be supremely accurate when picking where I need to stand before shooting my shot.
    This video doesn't go into depth about it but it does touch on how to do it. The main thing is to see the shot and then drop down into the shot for the stroke. It's incredible how much I've improved by doing this. So much of pocketing balls, especially on long shots, revolves around the stance, where you are standing before you start practice stroking.
    By the way, unfortunately I have never played Snooker. I live in the U.S. where everything is 30 years behind the times relative to other first world countries. Snooker coaches have helped my game so in addition to other pocket billiard coaches I watch Snooker coaches.
    Anyway thanks for making this video
    Cheers,
    John Noe

    I think most people, mainly newer players, who have trouble aiming are not aiming the centre of the white at the centre of the "ghost ball"; rather they are aiming it at the contact point of the ghost ball and the object ball unless it is obviously wrong(cut shots), at which point they will just resort to playing all those shots by feeling without lining the shot up visually. On a straight shot, this makes no difference, but the further to the side you go, the worse it gets(you wouldn't aim the centre of the white on a hypothetical 90° cut at the edge of the object ball, after all; you would aim twice as far to the side at half-ball beside the object ball). I think it's good practice to learn to visualise the ghost ball from varying angles and at varying shot distances. Simply putting essentially a plant in line with the pocket like you did with the ghost white and the red in the video and looking at it for a while from various distances before you play the shot you're having trouble with can really etch that depth effect into your mind. You need to be able to mentally rotate that cue ball around the object ball like a ball rotates around the centre in a bearing, rather than only mentally shifting the cue ball from left to right. I think this also helps a ton when learning to play thin clip safety shots from baulk.

    all of this applies to pool too. When you get that connection with the angle, if you miss you'll know long before the cue ball actually hits the object ball. You'll know instantly. You also get this feeling of knowing exactly where/why you missed. Missing and potting makes sense based on what you did or didn't do.

    Nice tip, must give it a try. I used to mentally drag the pocket towards the object ball to help find the angle. Currently in a submarine somewhere in the North Atlantic...

  • @wauttz
    @wauttz 3 года назад

    I tried for 2 hours but on this shot it didn’t help. But it did help me notice that the pocket moved around as a move left and right behind the cue ball. So what I did was take my stick and see where the object ball would hit the rail if I shot dead straight on the object ball. Then I approached the shot where my vision sees the alignment correctly on the rail. Then when I took the shot it was correct.
    Other angles on the table it is helping. Tx.

    Thanks for all your tips on aiming. Given your advanced ability, do you really aim at the object ball contact point or do you now, when down on the shot, let your sub-conscious instinct pick the line. Belmont New Hampshire, USA.

    • @Breakfromlife
      @Breakfromlife  5 лет назад

      Eventually you let your subconscious do it. But it does go wrong over time. Not working this out is usually the reason

    4:36 - If using the ghost ball method, sending the cue ball center (or shaft center) to the contact point on the object ball is obviously incorrect. Your aim point would always be the center of the ghost ball and never the contact/aim point on the object ball unless the shot is straight in. Please let me know if I'm missing something.

    Hey man...great video..though i have been playing snooker for a long long time but yiu got my attention to how exactly we aim. So this is how I do it :
    Check the aim point and Get right(dominant) eye right behind the *line of aim*.
    Note : Line of aim is the line joining the aim point on the object ball and that point on the cue ball which is going to hit the aim point in order to pot the ball.
    Bend from the bum putting cue in the line of aim.
    If you need to, you can change the side on the cue ball by moving the bridge hand.
    Is this the right way.

      @@Breakfromlife Possibly do a video dedicated to that as this pinning activity has bloomed beyond the original intention at the beginning. I'd be OK if your regular videos weren't interrupted by it. Maybe at the end of each video run 20 names and locations across the screen while showing the map already pinned. The new pins could all be one colour for the day. You can see that the perception of being 'ignored' can get a negative reaction, so it's probably time to change it up.

  • @batlin
    @batlin 5 лет назад +1

    4:30 when you say that the cueball doesn't have time to go offline if you put it close to the object ball, what about the effect of "squirt" -- i.e. if you accidentally hit the cueball with a lot of left-hand side, then it will jump off to the right before the side kicks in and pulls it back across to the left? Presumably this would be most pronounced at short distances.

    • @Breakfromlife
      @Breakfromlife  5 лет назад

      It could do if you played the shot with a lot of side. If your trying to play the shot in the centre of the cue ball then your are unlikely to get much side spin on the white. Not enough to throw the object ball off line by a significant amount anyway
