What a fun way to use up scraps! I just watched a video were they used water soluble scrap tape.Cost more than the paper but would be a good idea for times you might not want to peel all the paper off 😊
Your videos on using and organizing scraps have changed my sewing life, I am not kidding. No more do I angst over the piecing and sewing, and if I make a mistake. I just figure it's a unique way to try something. Thank you so much. I am trying out all of your piecing and scrap busting ideas. It is so much fun. Thank you, you are a great teacher.
Trimmed pieces over 3/4 inch go in the box for "piano keys" on paper. Those will make a 1/4 inch flash in a bunch of wider ones )))) They get also used in whole random crumb quilt blocks. Anywhere you want a narrow-ish piece in your block, you can substitute a piano key strip. Make miles of it and cut off what you need. Good for sashes, borders and binding Absolute slivers go for toy stuffing, and pincushions. The paper bits go in the compost. ZERO waste makes me happy.
I did another video on Monday of my latest free quilt pattern that uses these strips - it’s called X Marks the Scrap and you can find it here: ruclips.net/video/MKKy0fmM2NQ/видео.html
Hello, new to the channel from Arizona. I never would have thought of using the receipts I get at stores for strips! All the other people on youtube usually say to purchase rolls but I like your idea, using what I already have. Looking forward to binge watching your videos :)
Super! The paper helps me keep the length straight. Hmmmmm..... a length of nonwoven would act as support in the block too. New concept for me to have no base under the bits. THANKS.
I might have missed something, but do you peel the paper off before you sew the strips on? Sorry if that’s a dumb question. I’m thinking of making a long 2-1/2” crumb strip for my next border.
Hi! No I would tear the paper off after sewing it. For the pattern I am using it for the whole thing is foundation pieced. For other projects it would keep it more stable if you sew it on to your other piece with the paper in place and then peel it off. Hope that makes sense!!
It’s only difficult if your stitch length is to big. I lower my stitch length to 1.5 which perforated the paper more so it is easier to tear off when I want to.
What would you use scrappy crumb strips for?

That was great. Thx I would make Bible bookmarks n give it to friends. 😊
This quite helpful to actually see this done, thanks!
I love this - had a go with some of my scraps as I watched the video and feel inspired now to dip into my scrap bag further! Thank you.
Fab! Glad you are having fun with it!
A big light bulb over my head with your suggestion to use receipts for paper piecing! Brilliant!
Yeah! Glad you liked that idea.

Glad you liked it! Thanks so much for watching!!
I have been able to find bags of adding machine tape at thrift stores, usually on the wall that has bags of miscellaneous…cheap too!
CVS receipts! You could make most of a quilt with just a couple trips. 😂😂😂
😂
I make lots of strips but have never used a foundation of any kind; it works very well, and I don’t have to remove any paper…
Fab!

I read to avoid using receipts because they transfer ink if you heat them 🤔 Not tried it though 🤔 Love this idea 🤩👏🇬🇧
Maybe try using the back side?
🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

@@ScrapFabricLove yes, thanks!
Hi, do you remember the name of the multicolour leaf fabric your using? Thanks.
I’m so sorry I am terrible for not knowing the name of fabrics. I may have got it from a scrap bag of fabric or something.
@@ScrapFabricLove ok, thanks anyway
Is this pattern available yet? Thank you
Yes you’ll find it on scrapfabriclove.com under the free patterns section- it’s called X marks the scrap!
Beautiful scrappy blocks but how can I finish one block.
You can join these and cut to any size you like or look for my video called X Marks the Scrap and you’ll find my free pattern that uses these strips.
How wide is the roll of paper?
Standard adding machine tape is 57mm wide which is about 2.24 inches .
@@ScrapFabricLove Thanks for the reply!
Of course!
How difficult is it to tear off the paper when you're done?
It’s only difficult if your stitch length is to big. I lower my stitch length to 1.5 which perforated the paper more so it is easier to tear off when I want to.
Hi can you make these strips without using paper?
The foundation makes it easier to keep things straight but no harm giving it a go without and see how it turns out!
Thank you
Hi what’s happening with the paper?
You take it off the back once you add it to whatever you sew the strips to. It’s for stability.
Please close that rotary blade! I know the damage one of those can do !!
