I was 11, awesome to see again but also exceedingly depressing looking at how far downhill we've gone.
How have we gone downhill?
If I could time travel I would probably end up just watching mtv in the 80s. Thank u RUclips for having this, saving me time and money making a time machine
Great plan
Remember to call your local cable company for MTV in Stereo 🤖

I remember turning on MTV for the first time in 1984 at my very conservative and religious grandmother's house and lo and behold Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" was playing. I thought she was going to lose her mind seeing me watch that video. Needless to say, I didn't watch MTV anymore at her house. 😄😄
Hey MTV? I want my old MTV back!👋😢👉❤
March 6, 1984 I was a junior in high school, just finished up the basketball season. My brother and I would begin every morning getting ready for school while watching MTV. As Pete S said, it feels like yesterday as all of the memories and feelings come flooding back while watching all of the classic vidchecks. Back when MTV ruled the world!
and now I don't even know MTV's channel number
Crazy from the HEAT
Yes. They Ruled 🌎
Back when mtv was good and actually had music instead of pregnant teens.
I agree
And for BONUS POINTS.. See how many of these phone#s are still active and still connect to something TODAY!!
Thanks pannoni 8!! I have always missed the original MTV that came out during my high school years. Seeing this shedding tears of nostalgia and bringing back lots of memories
It feels like yesterday I was sitting in the living room of my childhood home watching this era of MTV. I would say it was probably the only channel I watched for a few years in the mid-eighties once I moved on from cartoons and discovered music.
Sounds awesome man
I was 11 years old here and after seeing Mötley Crüe looks that kill video it blew my mind and fell in love with shout at the devil album and still a fan to this day. God bless everyone out there missing the 80’s ✌🏼
Wow i miss it
I remember that Starburst commercial, with the wet fruit!!
MTV played the Fixx at least once every hour in 1983-4.
That's because one thing leads to another.
Definetly one of my favorite bands!
Also Africa by TOTO
@@itsalongstory1024 ….legendary comment
@@theheartlandgroup757 It's an obvious comment.
U2 at Red Rocks was a major point in music history, performances and stage productions were judged against that Event.
People don't understand how good The Pretenders are
MTV was so awesome back in the day. Martha Quinn was so friggin' great. Loved that girlie.
Yo!!! It is 1984 and I am 33 again! THANK YOU!!!!!
The day I turned 18!
I'm 6! I was the MTV Generation
I was 24!
Was 14yo
Lived for MTV
Back When MTV Was All About The Music, Boys and Girls
When you could actually say 'boys and girls' or 'husbands and wives' or assume that marriage continued to mean the same thing as thousands of years before.
1984 was a great year to be young.
Incredibly awesome! Thx so much for uploading. Was happily surprised to see The Members viddy, 'Working Girl ', as I had been searching for it 4ever, but couldn't find it, because I only remembered the premise of it. The 80s were such an amazing decade for music, and shall always remain my favourite!
Sweet. A Tron & Defender cabinets in the back. Also sweet, that Strawburst commercial 😍
Great work and thank you so much for the upload and sharing.
The golden age of MTV
Yup.
I lament the clear and glaring lack of black music of your 'golden age'
Ahhhhhhh, MTV'S glory days! Back when music videos were king!
Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Eurythmics, Elton John, ZZ Top, Hum-
an League, Milli Vanilli, New Kids On The Block, Wilson Phillips,
Mariah Carey, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Genesis, etc. Not like Katy
Perry, Demi Lovato, Jonas Bros. the Weekend, Tori Kelly, Lady Gaga,
Adele, Sofia Carson, Panic! At The Disconand all of today's hottest
music stars! I want my ORIGINAL MTV!!
Agree with all except Mariah Carey. I'd rather have my teeth pulled without meds.
@@ChatGPT1111
Agree 100% 😂
Thank You for this gift🙌🏾
Mark, it's been done. Thanks a lot, Mark.
Removing the videos kills it
Feels like yesterday when I had 17yrs old in my senior year, I used to watch MTV 6 or 7 hours of music videos daily, don't understand why they changed the format
After 2000 it got really Chitty
Because MTV did market research with their target audience. Carefully selected teens / young adults from very normal family backgrounds were selected to render their opinion on what they like.
They went marxists, decided they needed less white people and white influence. We have turned into a marxists ideological based society and whites are the bugoise and everyone else, black and brown are the oppressed and it's permitted through all of society.
3/6/1984...I was in the first grade and a little over a week away from my 7th birthday.
Greatest Time Of My Life!
Manfred Mann's Earth Band originally released the Somewhere In Afrika album in 1982 without Runner. Then they re-released it 2 years later in 84 with it, to tie in with the 84 Summer Olympics in L.A.
I have never heard of Voyage of the Rock Aliens and now I guess I know why😄
That phone number at 11:04 now belongs to a dermatologist. RIP Roller Castle...
Hahaha. I call those numbers too
Amazing decade 🙏
Richard Ramirez was on the prowl
That kid in the Atari spot is hardly nonplussed about Hawkeye Pierce dropping by to discuss his homework...
Mark is nice, but here's MARTHA !!!! Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood and Julie Brown were awesome Mtv hosts. I liked it when I could time into their shifts. smoke a dube and just sit back and smooth into the chill zone
NO MUSIC, but damn are the commercials a treat...
Ah..1984.When Gene Simmons wasnt insecure 24hrs a day. Insecurity started day he saw "Smells like Teen Spirit" vid.
it ended in 1996 when kiss put makeup back on and sold out the world. nirvana is mos overrated group in history
@@bb-gc2tx Lol..KISS suxxxx. I feel so bad for those teens in late 70s early-mid 80s that didn't know any better but to like boring bands like KISS
@@bb-gc2tx Then after Gene was so clearly threatened by bands like AIC/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam/Nirvana. He goes and trys make a "grunge" album in 96. Even on cover Gene & Kiss all decked out in Grunge wear clothes.
F'ing posers. I was at AIC's last show with Layne Staley by chance. July 1996 Kansas City. I was 19yrs old. AIC opened for KISS. Lolololol....it was SOOOO FUNNY. After AIC opened and clearly blew away anything KISS was gonna do...We and many many others fr 15-23yrs old left show b4 KISS came on. I wanted to stay make fun KISS fans..but my ride was leaving. There was no reason stay for KISS. They suck. Especially after AIC's blistering set.
Not suprising KISS tried go grunge. This same band that went disco. P O S E R S.
ALL ABOUT MONEY. Nothing bout music. You see KISS and their fans were in a one-sided relationship. KISS got your all's $$$ but fans got generic crappy music in return.
Goes for ALL those crappy souless hair metal 80s bands.
Hahaha. Good call
11:50 - That Seruchi commercial made me long for nuclear war in the '80's.
I want to get a single of that Juicy Fruit theme.
I'm not sure it would exist
Thank you for these nostalgic gems! @Pannoni8
I swear that is Billy Zane in the ARCHWAY cookies ad.
nostalgic!
What really strikes me is the absence of 'black music' as David Bowie would eventually point out in an interview
MOON PATROL!!👍 -cool game! I wanna buy and play!😃😃
This is amazing- THANK YOU
Sounds like Seruchi clothing and shoes didn't pane out
Amazing! I still have and enjoy Master of Metal!
It’s easy to wax nostalgic and forget all the garbage you had to sit there before they played your favorite band.
And you couldn't change the dial like you could on the radio, unless if it was to another channel that didn't play music, with a few exceptions like when Night Tracks on TBS or Night Flight on USA was on. But most of what MTV did at this time worked.
@@pannoni8449 I have fond memories of the Top 20 countdown. I was always curious where videos would land and would cheer when a song I liked reached #1. Of course, this had nothing to do with the Billboard charts, but I didn’t care.
And what pre-pubescent boy wasn’t hot for Karen Duffy?
@4:56 Ric Ocasek R.I.P.
This Was MTV Music Television Video
I suppose its copyright issues, but I wish they didn’t have to cut OUT the videos :(
That MJ impersonator was out of a job when Jacko changed his look in 1987.
Why do they not show the full videos?
The u2b algorithm will only allow about 4-5sec. Thereby avoiding copyright issues. Any longer and RUclips would just take it down.
Nice oingo boingo tune !!!
Over 1 hour from March 1984 and absolutely no news or music video of Duran Duran?
Why hasn't anyone else having the issue I am they are not playing the music videos they show the start of one and the end of one and that's it they don't play the whole things it's like they cut them all out and it's not just this one either it's all of them
The RUclips algorithm will recognize potential copyright infringement after 4 to 5 seconds. And they would just take it down.
🔊 2013 I soul Huey Lewis a new pair of speakers for his kitchen
u2 at red rocks hell yeah
March 6th, 1984 was my last civilian day for the next 6 years. I left for ft. Knox March 7th, and on the 7th and 8th, Van Halen played 2 sold out shows.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
Hawkeye!! Rick Allen with two arms!!
I think it's terrible they don't let the videos play through like I the old MTV how it used to be what's the good in showing this if they cut the videos off
26:25 VH Lost Weekend
Why do you put the full commercials ???
Sadly most of these not in stereo on youtube.
Does MTV still exist? I canceled cable in May of 2012 and haven't missed it at all. I don't know what goes in the "vacuous wasteland" anymore
I recently unearthed WBAL's classic warning with six beeps (two sets of three) that would precede a weather warning, back when I was just as scared as the kids in The Sound of Music when a thunderstorm hit.
I was deployed to Kuwait in late 2010 - Summer 2011 and was lucky enough to have a few tv stations through the courtesy of a satellite dish located on the camp. One of the channels was MTV but it was a broadcast from Africa and it was strictly music videos and nothing else 24/7. Doubt they have that today but for then, it was a great departure from the MTV in America.
HOLY CRAP!!!! IS THAT BILLY ZANE???!!! 33:40
You're probably right.
