      cheers! the patch for these benjolin drones was this... more or less!
      // patch notes
      epoch modular benjolin pulse b : mod b cv
      steady state fate quantum rainbow 2 purple noise : benjolin mod f cv
      modcan quad lfo4 : quantimator cv in
      quantimator 1 : benjolin mod a cv
      maths channel 1 unity out : quantimator trig
      benjolin low pass to mixer effects (moog ring modulator + eventide space + strymon el capistan)
      there were some slight changes among versions but i still need to work out what was what and update the descriptions ;-)

    I just bought an eventide space.... I'm playing, but I can not get a good performance. For example, what memory are you using here? ....thnnnnkkksssss

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад

      this patch uses modechoverb with a long decay via the aux sends on my mixing desk, it also gets sent back to channels on the desk for a bit more gain/eq adjustment etc and if i remember correctly some ring modulation applied to that return

  • @LobPobHob

    This is amazing! But I'm slightly baffled on how do you create the chords out of the output that's coming from Benjolin? Sure, there's the reverb from Space, but what gives it the chord?

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад +3

      thanks tuukka! in the patch im using the minor scale on the toppobrillo quantimator to effect the pitch and rungler via the mod a input on the benjolin.. it is just being triggered one note at a time but where there is so much reverb and delay they all build up into these denser chord like structures if that makes sense.

    • @LobPobHob
      @LobPobHob 7 лет назад +1

      THANK YOU. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! That explains everything! I was puzzled for WEEKS on what the hell was happening with the chords! :D Kudos for the explanation and the insanely beautiful droning.

    how does the noise from the quantum rainbow fed into the mod sources impact the sound?

    • @severence
      @severence  8 лет назад +1

      it is nice to patch noise to the benjolin filter so depending on how it is patched every so often the resonance spills out further into the mix

  • @aabe4327
    @aabe4327 Год назад

    How do you get the benjolin to play in tune like that? I've tried feeding mine with cv in key, but it justgoes "Nah, i'll decide myself what to do" and spits out random notes anyway :)

  • @richardgajdos8943
    @richardgajdos8943 7 лет назад +1

    amazing severence. what is the sound scourse, or a sample feeding it if I may ask. and is it audio input or midi in?

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад

      thanks richard, the sound source is the epoch modular benjolin: www.epochmodular.net/benjolin.html this is fed through a long reverb with some ring modulation and delay, recorded live with no midi or extra audio input... there are some basic patch notes included in the video description above.

    • @richardgajdos8943
      @richardgajdos8943 7 лет назад +1

      cheers. are you serious that benjolin creates such a ambient drony stuff on its own? amazing. I need to get it. just got into modular, I mean I am total beginner and I started off with lifeforms sv-1 (unit that has everything what you need in one package to understand basic of modular), but man. that benjolin sounds nice and with no midi or external audio source. wow. really great stuff you do by the way. all the best!

    • @richardgajdos8943
      @richardgajdos8943 7 лет назад +1

      it is very hard to see patching coz of mirrored image :-), but it looks good as a overall vid. presentation.

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад

      it is not quite fully on it own... the benjolin is the only sound source here but probably equally important here are the effects, it is sent through a huge wet reverb on the eventide space pedal which is also effected by the strymon el capistan and moogerfoofer ring mod pedals... the benjolin is a great module and has all sorts of interesting patching possibilities not just these types of droning soundscapes

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад

      cheers, yes the first few videos i went a bit overboard with the mirror effect! maybe if i find the time i could upload the original but to be honest there is not a lot more to see, all the best!

    great stuff, amazing rather... errr....but the notes are played by hand or MIDI to CV...the Benjolin will never play itself melodies like this and the moment you turn those knobs ever so little the response will be rather erratical, so come on, spill the beans.....

    • @severence
      @severence  7 лет назад

      thanks dan, approximate patch notes are included above in the description, the notes were coming from the toppobrillo quantimator being fed an lfo from the modcan quad lfo and triggered by a looping maths envelope, the pulse from osc b is being sent back into itself via mod cv b giving certain sweetspots, the benjolin filter is modulated by some purple noise and the lowpass out sent into a huge reverb on the eventide space which has some ring mod and some delay applied to the reverb signal via the desk...

    When I compare the video with the patch notes there are some pretty big holes - there are four more patches into Benjolin than are mentioned, three more patches into Maths, two more out of the QR2, and one more out of the Quantimator. Is there any chance you could refine the patch notes to more accurately reflect what's going on here? I ask because I'm looking to purchase three of these modules (Maths, Benjolin, QR2) and understanding how patches work using them is a valuable resource. Thanks!

    • @severence
      @severence  9 лет назад +1

      +Bob Corrigan hi bob, yes i have been meaning to update the notes for drones III-V as they were just approximate at the time and relate more to the first of the benjolin videos, if i get the chance at the weekend i shall take a look at the video files i have here without that mirror effect and try to update them..
      if i remember correctly i think i had other patches on the go at the same time.. so some of those patch cords aren't actually doing anything in relation to the benjolin patch itself...
      there is a great patch book for maths available on the muffwiggler forum which i found very helpful and if you email me via the address on my website i can send you some benjolin notes i have here no problem... the qr2 is a very handy noise source in a small package.. sounds great as an audio or modulation source

      Thank you! Here's what I'm aiming for - www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/view/208790 - as you can tell, I should be able to recreate your patch (but sadly not visualize it as I don't have an in-modular oscilloscope) with some luck.

    • @severence
      @severence  9 лет назад +1

      +Bob Corrigan i have updated the patch notes slightly to as close as i could make out from the unedited video, benjolin band pass and pwm were not used in the patch although they are patched...
