    A. Chance didnt see a lot of fathers. It wasn't his world.
    B. He couldn't miss where there was no deficit.
    C. His family was his normal.
    D. Life taught him what a father should be. His mother didn't focus on what he didn't have.

My life is the female version of what Chance went through, my father was not around and I never missed anything. My uncle and other family members gave me so much love I didn’t think I missed or needed anything else. It was my norm, bc it was what I saw around me growing up.

I’m an only child like Chance and when we are raised by our single mothers our natural instinct is to make her proud of us, listen, stay out of trouble, make good grades and succeed in life. Chance struggled with this topic but I admired his vulnerability and how Tab carefully navigated his experiences with his father. Regardless of the relationship with absent parents there should be some kind of communication between them so that we learn our family history and pass this information along to our children. We owe our ancestors the history behind our family life

My son asked me if he had a dad he was about 6 at the time 😮...I answered so quickly " of course"! Lol...he said well where is he?? I said to him " when your daddy grows up and matures to be a real good daddy he's gone come looking for you".. anyways fast forward to now my son is 13 and his dad did just that!! Grew up and came looking for his son to be a father and for all the years my son cried from missing out on fathers day dinners at school etc..because he just wouldn't go or let me take his space fir the events but I feel like all the laughs he shares with his dad now is sooo satisfying! I wish all the fathers who feel guilty for not being there would show up for the kids!! Deal with the guilt/shame with therapy but if the child is willing to meet you fathers out there I say go for it!! 😊

Tabitha, you blessed to have been raised with your father guiding and teaching you through life. You are truly a daddy's girl. I didn't have that luxury and to many of us; it is a luxury. It's not the norm. I can relate more to Chance, you can't miss something you never had. I met my dad later in life and I even got to know of him as person and a man. I still never met the father in him. I saw a father in others growing up and through life. My understanding of father finally came through my personal growth with God and the understanding of His word. I am a Father's girl too but it is to my Father in Heaven. I think for Chance to be the amazing father and husband is a testimony to a man wanting differently for himself and his children and wife. It's obviously you have to want to be different from your norm. It's a choice rather than making excuses to being what the stats say about your norm. I can relate. Thank you both for this conversation. It's a much needed topic in this day and time back then, but Chance is an excellent example than you can over the fatherless syndrome and still be a GREAT father. It is a CHOICE....Happy Father's Day today and every day after today Chance 💙🙏 I love you both... May God continue to bless you and keep you in good health and spirits.

They were there for his basketball games and so forth. My son doesn’t appear to have hate in his heart or anything like that, but it was extremely hurtful for me to watch. I have a unique situations because I can identify w/both Tab and Chance a little because I had a great dad who taught me things like how to cut the yard, change at tire, and the importance of family. He was very loving and giving to me and my siblings but then he died of a stroke when I was 13 years-old and I never got to buy him a Father's Day gift with my own money. Of course, when I was little my mom would buy him things from all of us and we would make him cards and things but I never got to go shopping and get him that perfect shirt or tool or whatever that showed him just how much I appreciated him. It is something I think about every Father's Day! Rest in Heaven Daddy!💖💖

He was 18 yo, just graduated from HS and my momma was 25yo with 3 babies under 6yo and divorced. He became an instant daddy and it's been 52 yrs now. He struggled off and on with drugs and alcohol. This subject is so touchy for multiple reasons and as an adult not having that connection since childhood i can resonate with chance on not missing something you never experienced. My father was always around but not present at all, he was more of a dictator, shoved religion down my throat excessively when he finally got saved, treated me like the stepchild ( im the oldest) and til this day we don't have a connection, even when i initiate conversation its seems abnormal. There's also another man i knew as my uncle who always looked out for me for years he passed in 2012 a month before i gave birth to my daughter and his daughter found me in 2018 saying she believes im her sister. I questioned my mom, she denied it aggressively and cut me off, i also heard it from other family members but i still have no answer 😞🙏🏾

Tab you are my fav and you asked some great questions… and Chance I love your authentic, blunt personality…
I grew up where my father was hit and miss mostly miss! He would tell us to pack our bags he’s on his way but instead he would bypass our house to go around the corner to drink and gamble…never come never call until the next time when he did it all over again and then out of 10 of those times he might follow through once!
It gives a child a feeling of not being good enough, unworthy of time nor the truth.
Then I turned around and basically married and had children with a man with similar behavior as my father. But with some favorable differences; He was a good provider, great protector and he is not a violent man. However for the most part he was just physically present, self absorbed, emotionally deficient and mentally unstable and it has really affected our sons…
A father in the home is not necessarily best.
A father in the home who understands or works toward understanding his role and the impact he has on the overall household health, then puts in consistent effort to exude what is needed on his part, IS best.
    Happy Fathers Day!

I agree with Chance. I didn’t ever miss not having a father. I didn’t start wondering about what a father meant until I was grown. I also grew up living with my mom, grandma and uncle. And like Chance, I’ve always wanted a big brother.

I understand Chance. I never longed for a daddy either because I didn’t know what it was like to have a dad. Can’t miss or long for what you never had.

I get it.. my dad was not around until I was 22yrs old my mom died when I was 12.. I’m used to not having parents and I don’t have any feelings towards my dad. So I don’t call and check on him because it’s not something that cross my mind also when I’m going through things or need something I don’t call him because I forget and it doesn’t come to mind to call him.

I understand him so deeply. I’ve never met my father or seen him for that matter. But it wasn’t something that bothered my as a kid.

I feel the same way Chance feels
My dad was not in my life but I didn’t miss him because I had so much love growing up, I never asked about him either, or missed him. I have no hard feelings towards him because I didn’t think about him. I had a good mother and family.
