Preparing for an EEG

- A registered neurodiagnostic technologist at Neuroscience Group, explains the process of an EEG test, what types of patients require an EEG and how patients can prepare for the test. EEG (electroencephalogram) is a brainwave test that records the electrical activity of the brain, similar to the way an EKG records the heart's rhythm. This test is normally used on people who have undergone neurological problems including fainting spells, blackout, dizziness and head trauma.
I am getting this done in an hour so its nice to know what will be going on. No one has explained anything to me (I didn't even know what a eeg was) and I like to be prepared for things, or at least know what to expect. So thank you for the video.
Keilah Smith an EEG is basically like a test and all it does is records ur brainwaves
@@evanmercado8346 a little late don’t ya think
I don’t care what it is I just want my drivers license back 😫
I'm currently in a program on my way to becoming a registered EEG tech. This video should be mandatory viewing for parents with small children. My clinical setting you could tell which parents prepared their kids and which didn't.
I just had one today
I AM NOT EPILEPTIC YES
Yay!!!! Congratulations!!!!
i hope i’m not getting it done in a few hours
Congratulations must be a great feeling to know your not epileptic .my son will be having a eeg soon tbh am very worried, hope to god i get the same news as you 🙏
My appointment for this is tomorrow morning. Thank you for posting this video. This helped me greatly.
i have to get one done in a few days and this has been super useful - i'm surprised i wasn't told anything about being sleep deprived or anything. Thank you for making these kind of videos!
im getting one done tomorrow though i do get to stay up late but i have to wake up early because like she explained in the vid you should be sleep deprived
I had an EEG done today. It was very easy
I had a random seizure out of nowhere the other day. I was sitting in the basement of a church, eating a donut, waiting for an event to start--not dissimilar to what I've been doing every Sunday for quite some time now. Next thing I know I'm getting loaded onto an ambulance. Apparently I was starting to come out of it and was able to walk (assisted) out of the building, but I have no memory of that.
A CAT scan and an x-ray didn't find anything, so we still don't know the cause. My uncle has epilepsy but I've never shown the symptoms before (I'm 18) and I'm fine with flashing lights and stuff. Going to see a neurologist tomorrow and get an EEG. Hopefully SOMEBODY can figure out what happened and how likely it is to happen again (though I'd much rather it didn't).
Bella the Foxcoon so what happen ?
Same thing happened to me. I was at work laughing and talking to coworkers and all of a sudden had one. Did they ever find the cause of yours?
OMG this just happened to me Wednesday. I was having severe anxiety attack that morning for absolutely no reason... my mom made appt to doc for me because she felt something was wrong. Omw to the doctor i started twitching in the uber, uncontrollably. When i finally get there im begging the receptionist to let me see the doctor because i couldnt breathe and i felt terrible. She finally allows me to see her and the last thing i remember was my doctor telling me my face looks terrible and it was a blackout after that. I woke up in an ambulance confused and was in and out of consciousness. I dont recall a thing, but according to my doctor she gave me chocolate, i went to throw out the wrapper and i get back into my seat, couldnt answer her questions and just collapsed. I started shaking and foaming out of my mouth and was red throughout my whole body.
SAME THING!!! I was feeling weird and I had a seizure on my school bus, and I threw my hot chocolate backward and woke up on the floor. Then fell back into what ever un conscious thing and woke up in the ambulance. At that point I didn’t know what was real. I thought it was a dream. But then I realized it wasn’t
The same thing happened to me. Did you ever find out what caused your seizure and have you had anymore since?
THANKS FOR ALLAYING MY FEARS---
I had seizures when I was a kid, due to hydrocephalus. I had this procedure done at least three times in my life that I can remember: once when I was six or seven (I remember the "panting" bit), once when I was nine or ten, and the last one when I was thirteen. The last one I had was the "sleep deprived" one, where I was only supposed to get two hours of sleep, but ended up getting close to four. After that, I was weaned off my anti-seizure meds I'd been on since I was young.
It does not hurt I have it in as we speak (72 hour test)
I have done this today and looks like my hospital is very fucking unprofessional. They didn't do like...any of this. They just slapped that hat with electrodes thingy on my head and through the holes they put that paste. And i just lied down for like...20 minutes ! Shouldn't it last longer ? I really think that they can't find the cause of anything with this stuff, cause they did it in a very bad unprofessional way...
Mine was the same! I'm in the uk, where are you?
I'm shaving my head before getting this done but I never get an answer doing this test. I don't like it. 😔
great explanation, now i actually have a great understanding of what an EEG is and does.
Glad it could help you!
Neuroscience Group the I'm having one in two days nice to be informed
Thank you " Neuroscience Group " for sharing this post. God Bless.
My dumbass got me into one of these on March 8th. Since i had a siezure at work and had to go to the er. I am an alcoholic and i likely caused damage to my brain because they are happening every week or so usually in my sleep and i only know as ill wake up with my sheets torn and scattered and stuff at my bedside knocked over and i had no memory of making such a mess. I always feel so weak and drained those days that i wake up to a disaster, like a hangover except i didn't drink at all and the worst headache that no painkiller on earth can cure. It feels like your heads so pressurized and will blow up any second.
So sorry you are not doing well, Gerald. We hope you find a neurologist near you who can help you with your seizures,
No "pain" involved? Are you familiar with sensory integration disorder?
I had a brain hemmorage in 2007 and suffer with headaches on a regular basis I have never had this done. I am wondering if it will help find out the cause of my headaches
myview tou I have a brain bleed as well this will be my first time getting an EEG in about 6 hours
Its kind of a toss up if it will show anything or not. I have a seizure disorder and to date I only had on EEG show anything was wrong. If you get a headache while having it done it should at least give your doctor enough evidence to justify more intense tests.
I used to have eegs all the time as a kid they’re not fun but at least I know I’m not epileptic and I always had to have these tests cuz epilepsy runs in my family and seizures
My head's been throbbing for 2 months now even when only slightly stressed and now I'm getting it checked. I hope it's just a migraine or something.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful
I have to have one tomorrow and been stressing out.
Linzilezzi calm down and meditate ur mind off of it and you will be on ur way to a great environment
Some people are getting there EEG's mixed up. This is the Sleep Deprived EEG the other two that I'm aware of, and have experiencee, are a Stay Home EEG and then there's the one they'll do at the doctors where it takes 20 minutes or something like that (don't remember the name for it). I'm not sure if there are others but those are the one I know of.
Will this job be automated or replaced by AI?
If you have had one then you will know the pain in the butt it is to get that glue out(if you guys find a solution please tell me)
Great stuff! We need more great #scicomm devoted to the brain and the amazing research being done on it! It affects us all and is fascinating #science! Looking forward to more content.
Having this test in August, last did it think at age 8 I don't remember doing it at that age. I'm now 30, time i picked is after lunch.
Thanks for sharing what worked for you! @morgannuchols
I will have mine soon.
Anel Bojorge are you allowed to wear makeup??
Jessica Manriquez I would probably not wear any makeup or any hair spray like stuff in the hairs since these are electrode sticky put on face and head.
I'm booked in for one on the 28th of July 21 I really can't wait.
Sending well wishes to you mine is on the 29th
@@shakejackson7513 wishing you the best x
how was it? I’ve been waiting for one since September but my doctor still hasn’t heard back and neither have I so I think we’re all getting impatient
Thank you. How did yours go? I had my EEG but the results were unfruitful!
I just had my EEG yesterday. 25 electrodes were used
Wow she is so gentle and methodic. She’s a pro.
I'v been having seizures the past year and I'm going in for an eeg test in a week. Does anyone know how long it will take?
Holly Marie I was told the procedure is about 75 min long: I hope all goes well on your end.
Holly Marie it takes alittle while it doesn't hurt either all it is Is a recording that's it
Holly Marie same thats why im having one done in a few days hope you get well soon
I also suggest the youtube video EEG 101.
I am neurotech nice video
I have epilepsy and used to nearly fall asleep getting these placed on 🤣 I used to love picking the gel out after as well
Getting this done in two hours and i got a 6 hr sleep and i am anxious …. I was not told any of these things thank you so much
I have mine in next week
Getting this done today, nice to know what to expect. Thanks for the video
My appointment is in about 2 hours, this video was very helpful
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Me too I have to get a Video EEG in the hospital I get admitted at one o clock June 8th
Do I need to Barb my hair to get an EEG done?
I have mine soon. I will cry. I cant see well so the electrods will look terrifying
tutorial slam don't cry or be scared all they are is wires all they do is Record your brainwaves that's all and you won't even feel them. Go on all you feel is pushing that's about it doesn't hurt
Waiting for mt app too come through
Is it weird having the things on because I'm having an EEG soon
No big deal.
I’m doing thus tomorrow
Thank you for that informative video
I have to get one in 3 days
I recently had an ambulatory eeg.The test was for 7 days. I had my head wrapped, and had a little battery pack. No showering 9r bathing. No doing laundry. And there was a camera placed in my living room, and one in bedroom. Now it was difficult, but if it helps neurology to figure out better information, OK.The aftermath was worse. After everything was removed I had blisters, and a burned forehead. And getting the paste out of my hair has been futile. But sometimes we have to do things that will help in the long run.
Angela Deckman I have to go to the 🏥 for a video EEG
Any suggestions to make it easier? I start my 7 days next week.
Your welkum
Very helpful info. Thank you!
damn, be careful with the head and the way u use the pencil, also the way u shove the head!
Whose the girl-patient?
