    Wow & woot, woot! Learned a few new things today (y). First, did not know I could put the white potatoes in without putting them on the rack. I've been putting them on the rack w/1 C. water & setting it for 14 min. doing NR (natural release). Potatoes turn out great though am seeing that I don't need to go for that long at all. Hubby does not like sweet potatoes so it will be nice to be able to do this all at one time now. I'm going to check into getting just the separate immersion stick type/ricer attachment/blender to not be washing as many dishes. As always, thank you, Jill! Julie Black Lichlyter

    Help for your steamer basket ring. Mine looked like yours. It just wasn't strong enough to pull out heavy things. I finally replaced it with a keychain split ring. Much stronger and super easy to attach. Love your videos and the laughs!

I have forwarded one of your videos to a friend who is vegan, but without and instant pot, I think you and I may convert her to becoming a pothead Like us. I use a salton gadget called “Masha” that does the same thing as the breville attachment attachment. It looks like an immersion blender. Then you don’t have to buy the brevville all in one, just the Masha.

    I was rushing around to make dinner and was also doing dishes and getting the stuff for granola together and DUH! had to look this up to remember the time for taters as potato salad was requested. After twice setting it I came back to find them not cooked! I forgot the cup of water twice! The joke at the end of your video was fitting... I watched that part after I realized my problem so all the more fitting for today! :)

    Do you ever leave the peels on the potatoes for mashed spuds? Also, just wondering if you ever tried mixing the sweet pots in with the regular pots to make a mix mash? I know I've got more questions than sense. Thanks for your swell videos and book. I love the book.

    Nice videos! We got our first IP a month or so back on Amazon's Prime day; took me only 3-4 weeks before I went and found another. I use a steamer basket similar in design to yours but it it has a short tool to grab onto the post where yours has the ring for removing it. I was wondering though if, in your case a heavy piece of heavy wire with a hooked end would work better then your chopstick; maybe the hooked end of a metal coat hanger?

    when I make my mashed potatoes, I leave what little water is in my instant pot from the cooking of the potatoes in the pot and just add milk and salt while I mash them. You always teach us not to wast anything, so I keep that little bit of water. I was excited when I came up with cooking kale and fresh green beans at the same time in the same pot. I did it just like you did the potatoes. I love my instant pot! My big brother saw me using mine last week and now he wants one. He is getting one from me for his birthday in two weeks!

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  8 лет назад

      I will admit that's just an old habit to drain out the water. You have a good point I could definitely save it back to help cream up the potatoes. By the way you are the best sister EVER! 😇

    This is brilliant! I also watched your other mashed potato ipot recipe video. I have one question. Can I cook 6 pounds of potatoes in the ipot at once (to make a lot of mashed potatoes)? And, if so, would I still only use about 1 1/2 cups of water and cook them for 4 minutes or should I add more water/increase the cooking time? Thank you! Your videos are so informative and have really made me get a lot more out of my ipot!

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  8 лет назад

      I don't believe we can get six pounds of potatoes in a 6-quart Instant Pot. Maybe in the new 8-quart size instant pot, not the six quart. Four pounds will cook up fine. You shouldn't need to increase the cooking time or the water for 4-pounds of potatoes.

    If you use a silicone flan dish or a silicone steamer flat basket you could do both sorts and just lift the bottom ones out tip the water and carry on as you did in video. I find less water in pot makes for creamer mash.

    What's the difference between steam and manual? I've seen guides about using both when cooking sweet potatoes, my pot is in the mail - but ideally I'd like to cook everything on manual (so I don't have to think all that much)
    Also, if I wanted to cook brown rice and sweet potatoes (whole) together, would you recommend doing the same technique you use for rice (22 mins manual) and just having the sweet potatoes in a basket above? Is the same quantity of water fine or is more needed?
    Thanks

    I've got 2 of those steamer baskets and I'm gonna do veggies on top of the potatoes!!!! Oh....wait a minute..... If I cut the potatoes small enough, the veggies will still have some life left in them by the time the potatoes are done.....right?????

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  8 лет назад +2

      Which veggies are you thinking of cooking with the potatoes? Thicker green beans and chunky carrots, possibly brussel sprouts could take 3 minutes with a quick release. Otherwise, cut the potatoes down to 3/4-inch dice cuts to cook tender in 1 minute. That way, you could cook larger chunks of broccoli, cauliflower, peas, peppers...they won't turn to mush. Use quick release to stop the cooking.

      We drink plant-based milk, unsweetened plain soymilk is our favorite. Hubby, teen son (16), teen daughter (13) and myself like to call ourselves "plant-based." We've been plant-based for 5 years. We got on board at the same time and everyone is proud to stay with it.
