I''ll be honest here...Ive been a fender man all my life and I love my 5120 Electromatic but..I just got the 2622T streamliner a week ago in Imperial Stain and I swear....it's the best guitar I have personally played. Every chord just sounds better and new. I thought the neck looked wide but it feels perfect. Not too thick and so easy to play. The streamliners have a reputation for having a stiff bigsby but you can just buy a loose spring to fix that. I sort of like it being not so loose. I wish I bought this guitar years ago. I love gretsch guitars and I always wanted a Gibson 335 but this is a perfect in-between.
You can't go wrong with Vanson pickups, tuning keys, nuts, saddles & bridges. Ben @ Vanson has been my go to bloke for all those things since my first guitar build around 8-9 years ago. Great gear, great prices, great service, fast free delivery. Their 57 alnico PAFs are blinding for the money. I'm pretty sure they do a humbucker sized Filtertron, which if I had a Streamliner I'd be trying out.....possibly the Tron in the bridge and HB90 in the neck or something? 👍

This is the best sounding demo I found by far of this guitar. It still had loads of top end and is quite agressive sounding (compared to a 335 for example). I don't hear the semi hollow sweatness into it much. But the playing is great !
I'm having a little issue with mine, the pickups just sound quite off, and with distortion it's just not good, so i was thinking on replacing with a p 90 or a splitable humbucker

Honest opinion: I bought this to give me an option for new sounds. It has since become my daily guitar! I love playing it, it's very comfortable to play for long periods of time. You can get a good range of sounds from it as well, the bridge pickup is really twangy - which is not a bad thing in my mind! The neck pickup sounds a lot warmer and the middle setting is a good mix of the 2. What really surpised me is how ballsy the pickup are, throw them through a distortion pedal and they respond and can really throw a punch! I have an epiphone 335 which is a lot warmer than this and even distorted is much warmer than this! You won't regret it!

Great guitar and nice demo... Don't be in too big of a hurry to change pups. The Broadtrons will suffice for many genres and sound super.

Vanson pickups are good. I've used them in a couple of guitars but wonder, are they really an upgrade to Gretsch stock PUs on this guitar? Great video and tone though I have to say.

Wow man. Fabulous playing. I have an old SX 335 copy with a bigsby that I’ve been looking for a budget pickup replacement for. Gonna do this exact config. Can I ask did you just cut the wires in the pickup cavity or rewire to the Pots through the F hole? Again classy riff and soloing. Love it.
The tone at 0:21 is really great. Mind sharing some of the pedal settings to get this type sound? Just got a G2622t last week and upgrades are imminent.

yeh the g string in particular has some issues, other than that is a cracking guitar

This sound good! I saw several demos of this model, all stock, and it was clear that original PU's are not its strongest point. Do you think that build quality of this guitar justify pickups change?
I think so, I quite liked the guitar actually.
I find this guitar and the sound with these pickups amazing. How dos it compare to the Duesenberg Caribou You own, too - though the later one is in another price region. And You upgraded the Gretsch… what about the regular pickups that come with it?
Actually I own neither of these two guitars, they were both send to me to make a video demo and I only had them for a couple of weeks.
The guitars are quite different; the Caribou is really more like a strat actually.

Bit of an old question, but what colour is the P90 pick up wire outer sleeve, I've seen them at a super low price with red outer wire and a higher price with black our wire?
The difference makes me feel that there might be a difference in quality as well.
red is usually neck, black bridge

The casino has p90s (warmer and fatter than regular single coils) and it's completely hollow, which can led to feedback issues. Hollow bodies have their distinct tone though, and people play rock with them, despite the feedback.
The Gretsch has humbucker pickups, so they are more agressive and do not have hum. Also, this guitar has a centre block, so you won't suffer as much feedback as the other, and you will still have the semi hollow charm. It really depends on what are you going to play. I would buy the Gretsch, but the best thing you could do is trying them both... If you can XD

Am modding my used Gretsch 2622T Streamliner ( great platform ) by changing the stock the Broadtrons to slightly higher end Blacktop Filtertrons P/U's bought used for $60- a stock P/U on a new 5420 Electromatic .The tech is giving me a great $60 deal and changing the loom to American wire and upgrade the caps / pulling out the whole thing and mounting it on a piece of plywood ( or cardboard ) to do the sodder work and all , so its a job . $100- $150 but worth it IMO
Does the streamliner pickups (broadtron bt2s) have the same dimensions as a standard humbucker, or are they filtertron sized ??
They are standard humbucker size.
I know these are budget pickups and you dont own the guitar but how would you say the p90 fairs against the SD phat cats you have in other guitars?

Did you find this Vanson neck pickup reduces the stock extreme low frequencies og this guitar? I also have a Streamliner and I love its tone. However, after listening to the sound you got in this video, I am wanting to modify mine as well, and those pickup prices are contributing to this a lot! Amazing playing, btw!
I just bought a streamliner... i like the neck pickup but not the bridge... i'm used to a high output humbucker in that spot... i think i'm gonna switch the bridge pup and keep the neck!

I was asking because I noticed the soft part of the solo in this video shows an attack and dynamics I could not feel on my Streamliner's neck pickup. I could do something about it with eq, but I still wonder if I could get closer to that dynamics response by putting a humbucker sized p90 in the neck position.
