09:15 - Pete raised a brilliant point about volume and tone controls and how useful they are - Captain ignores him - Pete punishes him with THE LICK...
And Pete is right. I had an Electromatic Pro Jet (bit higher range, TV Jones blacktop pickups, same controls) and the master volume and tone setting changed the overall tone, a bit like a Gibson i.e. - high volume starts to gently go to overdrive and with tone rolled off you can get woman tone. Lower master volume with mid tone on the neck pick-up you can get a cleaner George Benson style jazzy vibe. This is on top of the classic Gretsch twang ( epitomised by George / Beatles ) - needs a good valve amp as the output is quite low from the flitertrons / broadtrons. At the price, they make a great case for a step up guitar as they are well built and have this flexibility. The Streamliner and ProJet are Asian made - we genuinely had no issues and the finishing, binding, fret ends were excellent for the price. Recommended.
I bought a Chinese-built Gretsch Electromatic from Andertons in the Christmas sale. Like Lee, I was initially wary of the Bigsby, because it slipped out of tune rather easily. But it's "settled in" somehow and now works beautifully, allowing major bends and returning to pitch very reliably. It's actually the first vibrato I've ever really got on with. That, plus the distinctive-sounding pickups, makes the Gretsch a really versatile guitar.
Gretsch kills it in the budget department, absolutely beautiful looking, playing and sounding guitars for the money. I play an electromatic and it’s amazing
Very nice guitar and some tasteful playing I may add! More fantastic content! This channel is the new Netflix. I own a Gretsch but the playing standard isn’t the same sadly.
G'day from Australia. There is in fact a band named The Streamliners here in Adelaide, South Australia. They've been playing for some 30 odd years, 7 or so CD's, extremely skilled musicians. A bit hard to find stuff by them, but there are a couple of clips on RUclips, and you can access their music via their website. Can highly recommend them, easily my favourite band.
For anyone considering a Gretsch with a Bigsby, it’s crucial that you lube every point the strings come in contact with. The nut is crucial. Something like Big Bend’s Nut Sauce is great. If you do this and make sure the nut is properly cut for your strings, the guitar will stay in tune fine.
Lee, just to say your video with your dad the other day was fantastic. I thought the dynamics between you, your dad and granddad as well as the story behind the store would make a very entertaining tv drama. I'm thinking Tom Brady or Gary Kemp as your dad and benedict cumberbatch as a young Lee Anderton.
I just got a Streamliner like the second last one you showed, the blue one, only mines red. I love it. Plays really good, very resonant, it’s loud not plugged in, gives it a beautiful sound plugged in. For its price the workmanship is excellent. I couldn’t find one flaw. The intonation and action was setup right out of the box.
SQUIRE LOVA I had the choice between the one you got and the Bigsby and I chose the Bigsby. I didn’t own a guitar with a Bigsby until now. So far so good no issues or problems plays and sounds great. Gretsch makes some great guitars.
@@Icantdrive55 That's amazing. I guess they may have bothered to cut the middle nut slots correctly, at an angle to reduce binding. I think I'll go for a Reverend Contender RB if I wanted a Bigsby though. They give you a roller bridge stock with a softer spring that travels more and an inline headstock with locking tuners, but, it's $1100.
SQUIRE LOVA so far so good, if I have tuning stability problems in the future it’s an easy fix with a roller bridge and a graphtech nut. Reverend is a good make but I admit I don’t know much about them other than I heard they are good. Gretsch also has great more expensive guitars. I’m from Canada and we have a company in Quebec called Godin. I don’t own one but they are supposed to make some really good quality guitars.
Always in love with Gretch. Now, great sound and playabilty for all us mortals. Always a great treat to hear my favorite guitar duo! THANK YOU! .....BTW, after watching the 1 week later review of the next line "up" for Gretch, I think I much prefer this line. Less midrange, more musical broadrange of sound. 'Love that beginning piece and am happy Lee's distortion pedal wasn't ready.... the licks he produced are devine as clean.
Another fantastic and entertaining review! Not sure if these guys read the comments, but would love a lesson video or series from the Captain like Pete does, he’s gotten so darn good and would love to hear his thought on how he got there. Thanks!
Wow, blast from 3 years past. Here it is 2024! Gotta say that G2210 Jr Jet was a stunning guitar and sounded really good. You later said the neck needed a little attention. They're still selling them for 299 US. The other one that impressed me is the G2420. That thing sounded wonderful like a jazz guitar should. Still available for 449 US. I just returned an on sale for 299 US G2622-P90 because the neck wasn't straight and the bridge pickup was seriously tilted up on the bottom. Number one, a guitar has to have a good neck. I doubled down by ordering a 229 US sale G2622 with the humbuckers for immediate use while I wait for the replacement. We'll see what I get. If you get good copies you can't beat the prices, especially on sale. Think they're blowing out some of the previous versions, especially the colors they have a lot of inventory of. Adorama also has a G2622T for 279 US, and also a JR with the Bigsby for the same price in the US. Both of you guys sound great. Hope all is well, just subscribed.
I just went from one Andertons Gretch Streamliner video to another... The Captain has got sooooooo much better in a relatively short period. Practice kids, it pays off.
spot on by Pete ( or should I say incognito MaY Eye) the volume and tone literally giving you a variety of voices from the same guitar are the hallmark of a superior design. If you haven't dabbled you must.
I bought a G2655T and it did have a tendency to go out of tune when I used the whammy bar. However, I restrung it and did not have the strings go under the forward roller and no more tuning problems. I was worried that the shallower angle from the bridge to the rear roller could result in the string popping out of the bridge sections but so far no problem...and I've banged on the strings pretty hard. I love this guitar!
At 17:18, Pete was starting to sound like George Benson! These guitars sure have a Sweet sound and resonance! ANGUS YOUNG, Recorded and played live his whole career with an Old Gretsch, and BILLY DUFFY, has played, a Gretsch White Falcon, since, "THE CULT'S" , first recordings and, still does! I remember in 2013, Gretsch introduced, The Billy Duffy White Falcon G7593T Guitar! I bought one. Thank You for the time and, effort to make and post this video!!! THANK YOU, LEE & PETE! BLESS YOU, and, your families friends! Please stay safe with this Covid-19 Virus!!! PEACE!!! from one of the former Thirteen Colonies, That being" North Carolina", THE U.S.A.!
I have a 2622T, the BTs are good but I took out half the pole pieces and it cleaned them up no end. Still fab with some gain but less muddiness. Also I would advise to swap out the stock spring for a reverend. Helps tuning stability also. Another tip is to string over the tension bar, makes a big difference. Love these guitars though. Gretsch killed it with this line.
zipporaid before covid, i was saving money to buy the streamliner. Now that money it’s for food lol. i hope to come back to Work and finally buy one of these
@@benluce4062 how is the quality and sound? Im looking for the g5422t and ”higher” but i don tplay super much so i think the cheaper alternatives is a better choice to add 😄
@@dailycardriving4642 It sounds different from anything I've ever had, so I like that actually. I love the Bigsby. Huge problem is the tuning stability is HORRIBLE. I need to work on the nut. I'm pretty sure that is where the problem is. I already replaced the standard bridge with a roller.
Pete, I do not believe that Fender owns Gretsch. Rather, the Gretsch Family has entered into a marketing and production agreement with Fender. I have a Japan made 2015 model year G6120-BSHR-AFG. It is a Brian Setzer Hot Rod in Anti Freeze Green (sparkle), Ebony 9.5" radius fretboard and Bigsby Tremelo. It is a signature guitar that is made by first-class artisans and has a pair of TV Jones FilterTron pickups. It sounds and plays amazing and the Bigsby works great.
These are very well made guitars for the budget (based on recent ownership) and dependent on model, often include higher than expected specs such as a synthetic bone nut, strap locks, heavy duty switching / bridge and stop tail, well applied binding with a nicely finished fretboard - mine had a maple cap, set neck and rosewood. Compared to an Epiphone I had at the same time (similar price) the difference was clear and it felt a much more solid guitar because of this. After three years it was just as solid whilst the Epi had developed pot crackle and a defective switch - both easily fixed but you get the drift.
The volume on the semi works very well when going full rock to around 7 o’clock clean overdrive. The solid is full rock, can’t get the clean tone. I don’t know, maybe my amp setting but why does it work on the semi?
The Intro is amazing and this Junior sounds awesome. I love Gretsch. Lee, your playing is evolving from one video to the next. It seems you're spending more time playing than in business...;)))) Your videos are great, people of Anderton's.
From Leo: I really enjoy how effortlessly Pete gets any sound, any style, from any guitar. It is a lot more beneficial seeing variety in the products. Lee has made some significant improvements in his skills also. I have been very happy with my Streamliners for a couple years, these are interesting models also. ***TIP on Bigsby restring*** As soon as you hook a new string to the pin, jam a big pink pencil eraser under it to hold it in place while you attach the rest. works great, easy and cheap to find.

My favorite moment in any Andertons video yet
Not often I'm in the 1% - I definitely use the master volume and blend individual pickup volumes in the middle position.
I have an ESP LTD and it has this feature... It's amazing and I use it very often. In fact, the best tones are a blend of both the neck and bridge IMO
