My wife and I just recently purchased an electromatic G5420T (me) and a streamline with the Bigsby G2622T(her). We are constantly trading off. They are both so very fun to play and damn if they don't look great and sound great. Definitely recommend to anyone ready to flirt with the Gretcsh addiction!
Big perk of being married to a guitar player....new guitar day means you basically get TWO new guitars! (Just don't tell HER that!)

Probably one of the best guitars I've owned, and I've owned many.

My brother bought a Walnut Stain Streamliner G2622 with the Broad'trons. I liked it so much at that price point I bought the Electromatic equivalent for myself with the Bigsby and Blacktop Filter'Trons.
Here's the thing - the build quality between the two was virtually the same. I paid a whole lot more to get into the Electromatic line and get the Bigsby, but the quality jump just wasn't there. It was ok, but the more I played it the less I was in love with it. It costs too much. I preferred the brother's streamliner for the price. Sold my Electromatic to go in another direction. Doing it again I would have save $200-300 and just gotten a Streamliner. You can be confident that for the money, you can't find a better hollowbody.

I reckon with Electromatic, over 50% of the price difference is just the name. Paying for "faux-vintage". Maybe some difference in the labor cost depending on country of manufacture.
      Good guitars tho.

I was wondering about this. My understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that Electromatics are made in China, Streamliners in Indonesia. I've seen some pretty decent stuff come out of Indonesia lately. After years of not really playing, I just ordered a G2655T on sale at 1/2 price. Hope it lives up to the reviews I've seen

I just picked up Gretsch Electromatic 5655TG with the Bigsby tail piece. Awesome guitar ! I am very pleased. I own some 3 Gibson Studio's, a Standard and 2 American Strat's. This Gretsch is up against some tough competition. It has not let me down. As a matter of fact, it plays better ( out of the box ) than any of my other guitars... you can't go wrong with a Gretsch.

You hit the nail on the head for exactly why a 2622 will be my next guitar. You can make it sound like a Gretsch. But it doesn’t just sound like a Gretsch. I'll be flat out honest with you Dagan, For all the World, until I looked closer (Just before you said it) I thought the gorgeous White & Gold Electromatic you were playing WAS a White Falcon!! I love the Gretsch sound and if it were my money, hands down it would be the Filtertron loaded Electromatic!! Not a thing wrong with the Streamliner, I think they are an excellent guitar, just my personal choice that's all, and a 1956 Cadillac in that pale Blue colour with White wall tires, and a young Bettie Page by my side,......where was I again?? I have a 2023 G5622T Electromatic in Orange Stain, and it is a great guitar. One of the best I have played. Very versatile, it plays clean with lots of chime, and can play very dirty and handle lots of distortion. Played through a Marshall crunch amp (MG50FX). It has the blacktop Broad'Trons which aren't quite the Filter'Trons, but I have no issue with them. I noticed in several of the RUclips reviews of Electromatics that the plastic protective covers on the pickups have not been removed, such as the case with the white Electromatic in this video. It sounds good even with the covers on, but it will be a whole different guitar with them removed!
It is a double cut center block , and the sustain is eternal. It has the Bigsby, and I use Big Bends Nut Sauce to lube the nut, bridge, and the cross bar on the Bigsby, and tuning issues are virtually eliminated. Great guitar for the price. Beautiful, too!

I have a G5422T which I love too. However, it has a hollow body; a centre-block guitar rings out for longer. I have an Epiphone Sheraton ii pro with a centre block (which I also love and prefer for jazz). I reserve my Gretsch for when that Gretsch sound is appropriate. I have lighter RW strings on it, making it great for bending in rock-n-roll, whereas I have heavier FW Chromes on my Sheraton. Horses for courses.

I have a G6122TG Players Edition Country Gentleman, a G5420TG-59 Electromatic, and a G2622 P90 Streamliner. I thoroughly enjoy all three guitars. While the pro series is obviously the best made if the three, the Electrimatic isn't that far behind. The Streamliner has cheaper pots and hardware etc but the fretwork is impeccable and it plays beautifully. I did have to remedy an annoying buzz/rattle in the bridge through.

Technical note: Filter'Trons are in fact humbuckers. They are different from Broad'Trons, but they are both humbuckers. The DynaSonic pickups are single-coils, but are seen more often in the more expensive Professional line. There's a famous photo of The Traveling Wilburys posing with their Gretsches, and of the five, Tom Petty's guitar has Filter'Trons in it, and the other four all have DynaSonics in their guitars. (which would retail for around or over $3000)

Well the broadtrons would be a dealbreaker for me, but I've got my eye on a Cadillac green one with the classic size, and already have a pair of Hi'Lo-Trons just sitting here waiting to pop into something. So I can make it work. I mean, realistically, the TV Jones broadtrons would work, if you wanted a humbucker, because they've got good clarity. The Gretsch-made ones are a bit too wooly for me. But my jam is big hollow boxes with real sharp single-coils, Dynasonics or Hi'Lo-trons. You pick up every nuance. Thanks for the demo man, nice job.

Been checking these out in detail lately, and one surprising thing I noticed is that the small body Streamliner 2655 seems to sound much more clear and Gretsch-like than the larger body Streamliner 2622 like the blue one here in the demo. No idea why that’s the case, but for some reason the 2622 sounds quite dark and murky for a Gretsch. More like a 335 tone.

Gretsch guitars are really hard to beat and even the cheaper models play expensive. I have a mid-model 5655TG in Azure Blue that I did some upgrades to with a TV Jones Filter'Tron classic pickup in the neck position and a Power'tron plus in the bridge position, also a graphite nut and locking tuners for tuning stability with the Bigsby tremolo. The stock pickups were decent but to me lacked the old school Gretsch warmth. The guitar now sounds and plays killer and was way cheaper than the top-of-the-line Gretsch of the same style even with all the upgrades I did. It has that warm "Gretsch jangly" sound in the neck position and growly AC/DC sound in the bridge position. It was worth every penny!

I've just realized that Streamliner is a great sounding jazz/blues/blues-rock guitar. Electromatics spark my interest more, but then there's a more expensive line, which is "tha thing", for some one who is into roots music, especially rockabilly stuff.

Dude, you just nailed my questions and curiosity about which amp to buy. I've seriously considering the Super Reverb Master Tone for some time now; you're using one here. And I have owned a white Electromatic for five or six years. Sadly, I only took it to 2 gigs and played one song at each and then went back to my Gibson SJ200. I didn't like the twang. My mistake. I considered selling it, though it's just about the prettiest guitar I've ever seen, two months ago.
However, I purchased a Boss ME 80 (multi effects pedals) for a new Gibson SG, and it made my Princeton Reverb 12" (Bordeaux) sound great for the solo gigs I do. And after three weeks of having the ME 80, I tried the Electromatic through it. I have been a solo gigging musician for three decades or more, and 95% of the time I play electric/acoustic guitars only moving into using electric guitars this season. Nothing that I have ever played compares to the Electromatic/ME 80/Princeton Reverb combination. And to think I almost sold it, my now favorite guitar two months ago. Feel like I pulled the sword out of the stone. Thanks for your review!

This guy is so much better than we will ever be. I just want to see him struggle with a crappy guitar, then say "Its shit. SHIT!" to prove that guitars exist that even he cannot even make sound good.

Fair review - pickups on the Streamliner, perhaps they’re holding it back … an economy too far? Otherwise Electromatic v. Streamliner = hollow-body v. semi-hollow (centre block).

How exactly are the streamliners better? I’m trying to choose between the G2622 and G5622…

@@Not-a-GSD The necks are so playable, the chambered bodies produce a wonderfully resonant tone, and those Broad Tron Pickups are everything I wanted my Les Paul pickups to be, but they just weren't. Versatile, I have gotten Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Floyd, and Queens of the Stone Age tones from my 2622T. I am getting a 2655T as well.
I have an Electromatic Jet and it's fine, does one thing very well. Good classic Filtertron tones, and the neck is good. But not as good as the Streamliner.

I never owned a Gretsch until I came back to playing the guitar after 40+ year layoff. My wife got me the streamliner for Christmas and I'm hooked! Now I'm afraid I'm gonna pick up an electronic and go nuts over it too!
And then I guess there's always the White Falcon.....
..... anyhow, I dearly love that streamliner......and plugged into the old twin reverb. . Need I say more?

I agree. Fuller and well rounded sound. I have one. The Broadtron pups are excellent. They cover every genre and style of music. The Filtertrons pups don't. It's a workhorse 🎸

I’m doing my due diligence to decide which to buy so thanks for this info. One request please…. Lay off the caffeine before recording. I am hearing assisted by very sophisticated hearing aids ($10,000 professional level) and even they got over loaded and cut out on occasion when you were speaking. Thanks for this consideration.

I put my hope in you to made scream this guitar with a lot of distortion and rock actitud :(
No body take aguitar and moved it of their common, repetitive, and boring place. All the guitarrist in the videos do the same thing that others.
Please coluld somebody do a different thing? thanks
