Interesting to watch what is required building burn vs common sense( not common) burn. Air gap, engineering lumber and plastic siding will burn. Its glue, free surface area and plastic. Who would ever think that building anything out of that would be a bad idea.
The California fires are very much like the Lahaina fire. Houses are burnt down to the foundations, it's amazing how glass melts out of car windows, alloy wheels melt, engine blocks melt, but plastic garbage cans are unaffected, trees and shrubs everywhere are not burned. I lived in Southern California for 30 years and Santa Ana winds always blew in September and October they were 20 to 30 mph winds not a100 mph in January.
The Winds have ALWAYS been the same !! You just dont remember, cuz human memory, OR you were not measuring winds every second in the past !! All those "smart" rich people cant figure Anti-Fire Sprinklers ??!!
Yeah, silver play button!!! How much do you want to bet that most of the houses will not be rebuilt with this wild fire protective design? There are metal siding products that look like wood siding, same for roofing that looks like shingle. That's a start.
Time to overhaul US fire and building safety codes ESPECIALLY for those in wildfire zones. Having been driven out of my own home due to firestorms back in 2023 here in Alberta I can tell you it was the scariest 5 hours of my life. We made it out OK and our place evidently didn't burn down but not everyone was so lucky...
