Max, I congratulate you for picking a beautiful music “Moonlight Sonata” The devastation is beyond my words but somehow the music made the grief a little less.
This is absolutely unbelievable I’m speechless, it’s just pure Devastation these people are in my thoughts and prayers 100,000 plus people lost everything but the clothes on their back just absolutely heartbreaking 😢
I’ve been in combat and a few other bad scrapes, but watching fire surround my house as my dog stands by my side is a level of terror I never want to experience.
JP Morgan this morning (9 Jan) have estimated that the insured cost (note insured not total) to be $10 billion. Reportedly the biggest hits would be (Home Owners insurers) Allstate, Travellers and Chubb with Commercial portfolios at Travellers, AIG, Chubb and Kinsale Capital also impacted. Arch Capital and RenaisanceRe being the most impacted reinsurers (insurance for insurance companies).
As the fires are raging the California Air Resources Board is working on implementing new laws that will charge homeowners for the smoke emitted from their homes.
That's what happens when you build homes where they don't belong the under brush must be cleared every year very sad and I'm sure the state will not let them build their again,🫠🫠!!!
Worked with BLM Air Attack out of Battle Mountain, NV. USFS and BLM ariel firefighting won't be contracted out and back on line until May. Not that CalFire jumps at the chance of askingvfor out of state assets to come in. Scoops are all tied down in Winnepeg for the winter for seaplane air drops. Extinct fish and some politician named BASS, was the reason the reservoirs were empty and the hydrants were dry. Fire Departments undercut financially and prevention operation of these emergency services caused these over taxed citizens to be burned out of their homes. This is very heartbreaking. A friend of my Niece was in the wildfires that happened 2016/17 and said they came up so fast that they barely had time to make it out. There were several in the immediate area that he was in that did not make it out.
While I hope for Maximus and his friends and family that they all come through this OK, I can't say I'm surprised or feel any sympathy. Californians brought this (and all their many other problems) on themselves by nearly a century of bad policies and bad government, which was elected by the residents, so have only themselves to blame.
@@panatypical California's misguided politics created all the contributing factors that made this way worse than it would have been with proper planning and management.
So sorry to hear, best wishes from Canberra 🇦🇺 We literally get it, it's bloody terrible. 💯% *evacuate if necessary, you can't outrun the wind.* Even this great video can't convey the heat, the smoke blanketing streets, dead animals, houses gone, black trees, weird colours & smells - these fires are a mini hell. Hope the winds stay favourable & access is good. Glad only 2 confirmed so far, that's good.
When the house is burned and melted the water pipes that caused all the water pressure to drop so the fire hydrants do not work 3 things to the homes needed: 1. metal roof, 2. fire break surrounding house of no flammable trees etc 3. Fine screens protecting eve attic vents so cinders don't ignite from inside A friend's family lost their home in altadena and my brother had know s over 10 people that lost their homes
As usual a fantastic video, thank you very much for sharing it. The only thing I cannot understand is the person filming the fire 🔥 from inside his house with the dog 🐕 obviously under stress, STOP FILMING AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE. Thanks Maximus, great job, stay safe and Happy New Year.
I lived in University City area of San Diego back in the early 00's. While I didn't need to evacuate, I do remember the air being almost unbreathable with ash raining down constantly. I remember thinking it was a once in a lifetime occurrence until it happened again in 2007.
I'm originally from Poway. My parents lived in Ramona and I lived in San Diego when the Cedar Fire happened. I was at a Boy Scout camp near Santa Ysabel when a fast moving fire forced our evacuation. My parents and I haven't suffered huge losses, but we know that feeling when fleeing wildfires. God bless all those affected and all those working to save what can be saved.
The video shows the same blocks over and over. US this is catastrophic but the video is trying to paint a picture that the entire LA basin is on fire which odds no where near the case
The same amount of devastation has been seen for about 3+ years in the Ukrainian cities the Russians have "liberated". Did the president-elect offer any help to the people? The real extent of the devastation will become visible later, when people are trying to rebuild their lives and need help.
So completely avoidable and unnecessary. One that lives out there can only blame themselves for this mess voting in stupid people I mean way beyond stupid like a tick or flea stupid brainless idiots first no water second no electricity third defund police and fore department shall I continue? Just some food for thought I’m not putting any person down I will pray 🙏 for you all.
Lahana, Asheville now LA, let's see how biden will do on this one! Keep voting liberal folks that seem to be working. Also if CA practiced Forest Management things wouldn't get so out of hand every year.
When winds are like that no amount of Forest Management will help. Paradise, CA 2018, Trump blamed CA on Forest Management then called Paradise, Pleasant. Trump said the forest should have been raked. Would not have done any good with all the trees in Paradise. Winds were strong but not as bad a the current fires, Camp Fire was 3 Football Fields per minute Palisades were 5 football fields per minute. The winds pushed the embers way ahead of the fire. Paradise over 18,000 structures lost. The difference is Paradise the home were 200K Palisades 2Million each. I went thru the Camp Fire so I feel for those in the SoCal Fires.
As a person who has been involved with precisely these issues for 25+ years here in Southern California, I can categorically state that this is not the fault of conservationists nor forestry policy. This is Chaparral, and it burns, or worse, it's been type-converted to non-native flashy fuel weeds and grasses, which are even more dangerous. While thinning to about 50% coverage while limbing up and removing dead branches is hugely important, flammability is all about hydration, not plant selection. Our 4 year research project for the US Navy showed that lightly irrigated greenbelts of native groundcovers and shrubs (because it takes so little water to hydrate a native plant) will do wonders for erosion control, habitat preservation, regional identity, and beauty, at the same time being low maintenance, drought tolerant, and highly fire resistant.
@cal-native Forest Management isn't just brush clearing. It's fire break engineering along with major resources/knowledge. Look how Pisgah Forest (Cradle of Forestry) and the Smoky Mountains protect their forests. Also, look at the fires of SC in 2016 and how fast that was controlled. These 3 states don't hire DEI, to manage this pristine resource.
Wonder what this is going to do to the California home and commercial building insurance business. Will there be a mass exodus of Californians to the rest of the country were firefighting is allowed?
Can't imagine it gets much worse. The problem is the public voting mass here seem to never want change. I dont mean as in "Party" I mean just for the better. Its like a state of robots.

Insurance company called today and wanted my premium check tomorrow (I am not ever late). Gee I wonder how there cash flow is doing.
And a few days later the insurance company will file for bankruptcy protection and run away with your money.
