If I may offer some suggestions: - Perlite is not a nutrient. It’s a good to mix it in (not sprinkle on top) potting soil, as it improves drainage, but it doesn’t feed the plant. - Miracle Grow might be the better option in a big box store, but it’s absolutely not a good potting mix (especially Moisture Control, which retains too much water). It’s better if you mix in more perlite, but there are much better brands (yes more expensive, but absolutely worth it) which you can buy at good nurseries. Miracle Grow is heavy, compacts quickly, supports fungus gnats, and is full of inorganic fertilizer that artificially props up your plant until it runs out. My favorite potting mix is Foxfarm Ocean Floor, pricy, but my plants have never been healthier in the long term. - Yes, you should remove dead leaves. But cutting off tips is only for appearance, and I would argue leaves cut in half does not look natural or nice. Too many brown tips is actually a symptom that your plant is not well.
And a couple of more tips: - It’s a good idea and much easier to shower your plants. Knocks of dust and most love the humidity. Wiping individual pothos leaves sounds like a chore. - Majesty palm... Such a difficult plant indoors. Moving it to a dark location will have its effect sooner or later. They need stronger sun than most indoor locations can ever offer, very high humidity (dry winter heating is a killer), no drafts, lots of water, lots of food... Perhaps the better sunlight in your bedroom was not the reason for its decline, and it’s likely to start getting worse in an even darker location. Unfortunately these don’t fair well for more than a couple of years in most anyone’s indoor conditions.
They say the Majesty palm is an endangered species but I see more of them in homes than any other palm. They are slow to grow but pretty. If you like palms try some others. Can grow date palms from dates. Take the seeds, soak off any remaining fruit and then dry them off. I wrap them in paper towels, soak them and then put them in tubs to sprout. I have all sorts of palms in my house. And when summer comes, the back yard looks awesome too. Btw. The Majesty palm. Can grow to 90 feet tall....the house plant palms are just juveniles!
It's probably because people take plants from the wild instead of nurseries and plant cuttings. Since they grow slowly it will take really long to reproduce and increase their numbers
I have a 4 year old palm majesty and it started dying on me. I had it placed in a very sunny window and it was hating life. I read that they enjoy filtered light, humidity and sitting on top of rocks. After a hot, humid Iowa summer under our lilac bush, she's back!

Mine is starting to run into some trouble, I feel like I have to keep trimming dead pieces off the palm leaves themselves and it seems like I have to keep doing this more and more that I feel like im defiantly doing something wrong. I noticed that the water isn't drying up as fast in the pot so I try not to give it water too much, maybe because it's winter. Hello nice plant care video. I have a small peace lily that I clipped dead ends and cleaned up but I found 4 worms or catipillars in the soil. I had my daughter take them out.what are they and how can I keep them off my baby? Thank you.
How often do you repot them and put extra protein and stuff? I purchased a cat palm from Lowe’s in late February in Washington state. It was beautiful it stands a little over 4ft. Beautiful green leaves like yours has, overtime the leaves are turning dark brownish green and a webbings on some of the leaves. Also gnats. What I’ve done is removed the top about a quarter inch of soil and added planting pebbles, use a feeding bulb and plant food, sprayed the leaves with water and a drop of hydrogen peroxide mix. I live next to a wooded area, so it faces NE that’s where the window and the partial ☀️ light. Any suggestions, tips, help???
OMG such beautiful plants..so green and lush..I got a pygmy date palm (phoenix robellini) a month back, repotted it in good potting mix with perlite and worm castings, added slow release fertilizer too. I use moisture meter and then water. I have it in my patio, it receives direct morning sun for 2-3 hours and then Sun goes away. It still has brown crispy tips..they get so crispy and dry that they just break off from the center of the leaf. No pests. Any suggestions on how I can keep it lush and green? Should I move it in?

Hi Kyra. Love the video. Ive got a majesty palm question. How tall was the majesty when you bought it? I have very low light in my condo bedroom and i dont want to move it. It seems to be in good health, but this is my first palm, and i want to make sure im nurturing it and not just keepping it alive.
Do you keep your plants in the original pot it comes in? With my majesty palm I took it out the original pot & added new dirt due to it be infested with larvae, which I kept seeing gnats in my apartment. But now I’ve noticed it seems to be dying. The leaves are turning brown.
Omg, I just bought a palm and it says bright light and water 3 times a week but you say just the opposite. Given how beautiful yours is I'm gonna follow your advice. I did notice some of the leaves were curling under, what is that from?? Any advice appreciated.
I just discovered your channel and I love it and your personnality! I am a beginner indoor gardner and was wondering, why are you adding soil on top of the pots? Thanks for adding value to my life with your videos 😊
When the plants roots grow they push soil out of the pot through the drainage hole. When plant get root bound people think the plant struggles because it’s “strangled”,no it’s because there is more root then soil which can’t hold enough water and nutrients to sustain the plant. If I have a fast growing plant, every day I need to wipe away soil that’s been pushed out of the pot. Every so often you have to top dress the soil, it’s also a fertiliser alternative .. you can top dress the soil with worm castings (worm poop) to give the soil more nutrients. Saves repotting if it’s still got plenty of space, also if you have pests like fungus gnats it’s also a good tip to remove the top inch or two of soil and replace as that’s where the gnat eggs are.
HELP!!! my majesty palm kind of 1/2 and 1/2 looks rough for the most part it is pretty healthy but I have noticed the leaves turning yellow it would dry out in like 2 days and when I would water it I would never have any water come out the bottom... So am I under watering it?? I also moved it to a more shady spot and tonight I reported her cause roots were coming out the top of the soil!!! Please tell me what I am doing worng I love this plant and I don't want it to die and u seem very knowledgable!!!!
Hi I think your majest palm needs to be replanted in a larger pot bc I was researching it and it says to do that when roots start coming to the top of the soil

what is the rubber band you have at the base of the majesty palm? mine grew vertically like yours when I bought it a year ago but now it's growing outward and taking up a lot of space

Do you keep your plants in the original pot it comes in? With my majesty palm I took it out the original pot & added new dirt due to it be infested with larvae, which I kept seeing gnats in my apartment. But now I’ve noticed it seems to be dying. The leaves are turning brown.
My plant is dieing 😢 can you say some tips what I should do it has small little insect like things on it
I had a fiddle tree aswell watered once died of root rot i should have taken it back to costco
I have one do it like in direct light or can I place it near my window for full sun
Why are you adding more potting soil?
HELP!!! my majesty palm kind of 1/2 and 1/2 looks rough for the most part it is pretty healthy but I have noticed the leaves turning yellow it would dry out in like 2 days and when I would water it I would never have any water come out the bottom...
Lowes have tons of those Majestyc palms plus a lot of tropicals cheap now in Autumn
Thanks for your video.
Majesty
I just got into plants! Love this video! I needed advise on my majesty palm!
Lots of good tips there, new to house plants just started this year, I have to Majesty Palms and a dracaena marginata , doing a few indoor herbs as well 😊 I'm also in Massachusetts on the south coast
Thanks for sharing. I have been wanting a palm. I see them also in Lowe’s and Home Depot. Have you gotten any pests on it?
So this video is very old and I no longer have anymore plants due to me getting a cat soon along with this palms getting spider mites. So just be careful with what plants you bring into your home. I spent and wasted a ton of money on plants that just ended up dying or I ended up giving them away 🤦🏻♀️
@@Living.minimal omg! The minute I see something it will be gone!!!!!🥺 were your top leaves yellowing and that’s how you realized it, or webbing?
Maam hello i havehad english ivy since a month .it didnt grow much. I repotted it twice seeing that i had overwatered it due to which the peaves turned yellow and plant was wilting. I cut out the dead bits. I dont know what is going wrong becoz the leaves seem to be turning soft. Even when i controlled my watering. Please help
How many times do you water the majesty palm
What about the water drainage,do u use a plate for collecting them ? I don't want my wood shelf to swell with all that water.
Yes I use a plate from the dollar store. Collects the water just fine. And I hear ya I didn’t want to ruin the wood floors in my apartment either.
You saved my life with this video 😭😭
Wow your plants are beautiful 👏👏
My palm is growing so wide and not that high. Can I fix it? I’ve notice you Tied a rope around it
So sorry I wish I could help but this video is pretty old and I no longer have this plant due to spider mites. I tied rope to make it look fuller back then but I’m not sure if it helped. I only had this palm for a good 4 months then I had to throw both of them away. Now a days I no longer have anymore plants on two large monsteras.
Thanks i enjoyed your video.. Never seen that palm before its beautiful. I wondered if you can buy it as seed do you know? Thank you.. David.. IRELAND 🍀🇮🇪
I still enjoy this video. Thank you.
That majesty palm seems really healthy.
I just love dark green
Gosh that monsteria is beautiful!
Beautiful collection of plants
What a beautiful palm! My house is pretty dark inside though...wonder if I would be able to have one of those. 😑
This is great, thanks! I've never owned any plants, but am considering buying a couple areca palms for my apartment. Can you tell me what the peat moss is for and if it's necessary for palms?
I thought you weren't supposed to trim the leaves of the palm. But yours look great! I wonder why there is so much opposite info on these?
I learned a lot from this video. I also have a peace lily but it’s dying, thanks to you I now know what I’m doing wrong.
Humidifiers also reduce dust in your environment.
So does opening the windows on a windy and rainy day..🐒🐵🐿
Can you do more videos on how to care for a majesty palm. Show us how you water yours... everything.
I’m so sorry but this video is almost 3 years old and I no longer have any of these plants. I only own 2 monsteras now ever since I moved.
I am sad watching my majesty palm not doing well. I follow some tips and read gardening tips seems like I have a hard time to grow this plant. There's new leaves coming and I trimmed the one turned to brown. Also my Lily is blooming but not healthy. My golden pathos don't have problem. just the majesty palm and lily. I think its humidity my place in CA not high humidity. You have beautiful plants.
what is the rubber band you have at the base of the majesty palm? mine grew vertically like yours when I bought it a year ago but now it's growing outward and taking up a lot of space
