    Steve,
I have been following your videos for months. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with throat cancer. Long story short (for now). I finished up 7 harsh weeks of Chemo and Radiation on October 14th. I actually haven’t had solid foods since my 53rd birthday in May and probably want for at least another 6 months. It will depend on my tongue and throats ability to swallow. Right now, everything in my throat is fried from the 35 treatments.
But as crazy as it sounds I have found some incredible joy in your videos. I have watched them all some multiple times. At the moment my tastebuds are not working, so I could not taste food if I wanted to. But you my friend give the absolute best description of meals, spices, smells. I love your humor, I love your willingness to try things that you know are going to taste horrible. You my friend are the master MRE host.
I chose you to be my inspiration through this journey. Please keep,it up, do not change who,you are.
Please forgive my poor grammar. I will just blame it on a liquid diet and lots of medication. You don’t even have to post letter this it’s ok. I just needed you to know you are doing things for people in the world that far exceed anything you ever intended.
    Thanks and God Bless.

      Hey ruzelme2,
That is an amazing road to healing and recovery - I am very sorry for the pain and difficulty you are going through. But am glad these videos can take the edge off of the pain and discomfort you are dealing with.
I hope your healing goes as smooth as possible and you can eat some solid foods soon!
Thank you so much for this inspiring message - I will always work hard at bringing you new videos to enjoy.
Take care and see you around!

While we are on the subject: those tinder blocks will light with a flint striker, you just have to use a knife to shave off bits of it and light the bits first, then light the rest of the block with the burning bits. After the block is on fire you can add a few sticks and make a larger fire. I have a bunch of those in my camping and survival gear.

The IR chem lights were used weekly for us in Afghanistan (Marine) When you attach an IR chem light to a cord and spin it fast enough it looks like a glowing circle for the helo pilots overhead. Its actually called a "buzz-saw" We used them all the time for re-supply as the area we stayed at was inaccessible for ground vehicles. Great vids man!

I am a USAF Aircrew Flight Equipment technician, I deal with these specific modules as part of my job, the new survival and medical modules are slightly different, lacking the water purification tablets. The chem stick is not visible to the naked eye as it produces an IR glow.
Just as a bit of extra information these modules are not issued by themselves to aircrew, instead they are tied in to a larger survival kit/vest. The types of kits/vests are determined by the type of aircraft they are to be used on and the components inside the kits/vests are determined by the MAJCOM/base.

Information for you about the QuikClot Combat Gauze; the blue zigzag line going down the middle of it is an indicator that can be seen with an X-ray, so when someone with a deep wound finally makes it to a hospital, they can see the extent of the damaged, the depth of the wound and what to expect before pulling it out. It seems like you enjoy learning about these things and I’ve always thought that was kind’ve interesting.

The H bandage is built to absorb up to a pint of blood so you’re not track by your blood trail if you’re shot. It can at least get you a good half a mile depending on how bad the wound is, before you start dripping again, but most ppl pass out about a pint and a half into bleeding and that’s when you know they don’t have much time left to get to a MASH. You’re body stops after two pints of blood.

The sticky camo wrap, its called coflex, we actually wrap our horse legs with it and use it as a medical wrap. You can get it pretty cheap in any color at your local farm store, tractor supply, and it says its for horses but its awesome to use on kids when they have a sprain or what not. I always have a box of different colors on hand because it will hold wires together behind your tv and entertainment system or wrap a bat handle with and then use the sports tape and makes it softer. Whats really nice is the coflex is stretchy and sticks to itself, no extra tape or pins needed on the go!

Red light is not infrared. Is to be used during night operations to read maps and etc. that way the enemy is not as likely to see your position as a normal flash light would give your position away immediately because of how bright it is. The other light that doesn’t work however is a infrared light that can only be seen through NVGs or any other kind of night vision device. If you turn all the lights off and you turn the light on and hold it up to your eye you will be able to make out the infrared light but just barely.

    Great pack.
Though, we humans can't see Infrared light with the naked eye. We can sense it, just not see it.
That light was literally just red.
And it's red, because it's intended for night purposes.
The human eyes can see most at night with a red light, due to the longer wavelengths of the light, whilst it remaining much less bright and less noticeable because of it.
Whilst we see more differences in colour from greens to blues, which eventually form all colours into white light. The brightest, and most noticeable.
With that said; if the red light is particularly powerful, you can see it for miles, as the human eyes are also most sensitive to red colours.
So that little torch wasn't nearly powerful enough for, let's say, a search party 100metres away to notice, but a flare would be up to five miles or more.
hence why emergency flares are red.
Ontop of that; red lights like those effect our natural night vision the least. So you can use them without having to readjust your eyes again. And, of course, there's the added advantage of red lights needing much less charge to operate.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. The camera couldn't pick up the glow stick's infrared because of the IR blocking filter that cameras come with. The best thing to do with the flint wheel, which you can also do with any flint style lighter, is to rotate the wheel slowly on an angle. Enough to grind the flint to powder but not fast enough to cause it to ignite. Keep the wheel turning till you've got a little pile of flint dust and then, holding the flint wheel close, strike it properly so it sparks. The sparks will hit the flint dust pile and cause it to flash creating good localised heat for lighting tinder. :)

I'd have expected at least a 24-hour supply of non-thinning OTC painkillers, anti-diarrheals, and energy gel...unless I'm missing something, and there's a mission-specific survival kit to be paired with this.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's. We bitch so much, that the joint forces put out a report in Nov 1979 about the state of survival gear in the army, the navy, and the air force. (See Google) It was a total mess, There would be outdated kits going back to the Korea War, or no kits, many had notes kits will be coming that was dated 1969. No quality control, some kits were rotten by heat, aged, or moisture, worse kits that had vermin in it. Sometime during budget cuts, you got a "survival manual" that came out of your pay, a nylon first - aid pouch with an empty plastic container with a note of items that you can find at the base PX. Only pilots and their aircrew got training and gear. After 1982, things got better. No more damned notes.

The sticky camo wrap is the same stuff that can be found in an equine supply store. Southern states and tractor supply co have it in multiple colors. Usually rather inexpensive.

The chem light probably needs snapped. I could be wrong on that particular one. But, chem lights need snapped to break the module inside to mix with the rest to create the illumination reaction.

Hey Jared - I snapped it but didn't realize it's one of those chem light that can only be seen with night vision.

The irony when you get an advertisement for a food delivery service similar to Hello Fresh, at the start of a military ration video 😂

It's crazy how much more thorough the med pack for the Vietnam era one you opened was. Way more useful stuff in it than this one.

I was thinking the same thing while watching, this is garbage compared to the vietnam era one

When it's IR, it looks bright as regular white light under NVGs. Naked eyes and regular optics like cameras can't see it, but anyone with NVGs can, even peer enemy forces. I like using them during night flights under goggles. IR chemlights are great for marking positions.
