Thanks for making your vibrato suck less by watching this video!!!! Who is your favorite top shaker?! ALSO: go rent/buy Psycho Goreman NOW! It’s on Amazon and I am OBSESSED!
Marty Friedman absolute number one. Mikael Åkerefeldt and Dime also among my favourites. Andy LaRocque and Arjen-Anthony Lucassen to complete my top five.
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself" is one of my favourite lines from 2021 already. XD Thanks for the bending vibrato lesson. Much needed. XD
He he i am not easy to laugh but at 0:37 i was a little caught off guard! Vibrato in time with the rythm great video on the subject, and it really is more Hunkier :)
That ending is a reference to whatever the clip Mastodon uses at the beginning of Hail to Fire on the Lifesblood EP!!!! I knew I recognized that "I'm tired of eating sloppy, slimy eggs" intonation! VERY NICE!
The re-bending advice starting at 8:12 is worth its weight in gold. I've struggled with getting vibrato on bended notes to sound right for many years. Thank you!
Another great training tool for adding vibrato to bends is the EHX freeze pedal - instead of watching a tuner for your pitch reference, you can fret the target note and use the latch function on the freeze pedal to permanently sustain it. Then you listen for when the bends / vibrato are in tune with the sustained note.
I'm here for the lessons but stay for the mosquito jokes: "like a mosquito on bath salts" ... "mosquito riding a sybian" ... Thanks for the lessons & the laughs Uncle Ben! Just to add to the list of great rope shakers, you can't forget George Lynch!
OMG. Thank you!!!. Summer Song, by Joe Satriani!!. i had heard this on the radio when I was a kid. I dubbed it to a cassette. And spent forever learning this. I got down a little bit of it. And then I grew up. I still try to learn and play this from what I remember it. But as I was a kid before I did not care to learn what the name or artist was. It was just that song on the radio that I had on that tape, that time. So I had been going nuts. Well. not really. But it was like one of those "back burner" things in my head to one day figure out what the F this thing was and then go study it again.. Anyhow. i am really excited.. Thank you for the lesson too!
Great tips, especially the one recommends using the tuner to see if you can full/half bend... And the best thing, you can use these vibrato tips in another solo activity........................
Great vid. Yingyang Milkshake has killer vibrato no doubt! Gotta love the unique slid vibrato that Greg Howe and Lynch/DiMartini have made part of their style. And great blues players have crushing vibrato that should not go unmentioned!
You make me feel smarterer everytime I watch. I shared some of these same tips in a FB group I belong to. Of course I still suck at guitar so keep these great tips coming so we can get a little gooderer with each practice! Uncle Ben, Giving the rope a dope a rope of hope 😂🎸 Thanks!!!
The first guitarists that made me note the power of vibrato are John Sykes and Gary Moore... And Randy Rhoads on the Mr. Crowley solo..As always you bring a cool lesson.
Funny thing is he refuses to call him by his real name, even though he mentions him quite a lot, and not in a negative way, quite the contrary. I wonder what that's all about... 🤔
Jeez, I was just playing guitar in my living room, practicing my poor loose vibrato. A minute later, come here, see your last video about VIBRATO? Synchronicity eh? Thank you Uncle Ben.
If i were to discover that secretly, you saw that clip of the Ultimate Warrior and it triggered this idea and you made this entire video just to get to use that clip in this context... Well sir, then I would still point my drink at you and nod approvingly. well done.
Hey uncle Ben, do you know anything about shout gospel music? I recently came across a guitar player on instagram (@ethanridings) who absolutely SHREDS these intricate bluesy country licks and it seems like something that would be in your wheelhouse and somewhat related to that country lick video you did recently that did pretty well. 🙏
I don't know man. I mean sure a perfect vibrato is on tempo but for me it's a bit restricting. I play my best when I'm not thinking about it. Thinking about it sorta takes away that raw instinct aspect out of it. That's why you see so many of these technically perfect but soulless instagram guitar players. They think while they play, which is something you should never do. Best way I can describe it is like breathing manually. Bad vibrato can also be bad by being perfect to the point where it's boring and downright annoying.
It's like my fake it until you make it shit.... As an amature I faked it. End on a bad note & slide or bend it into the right note. Many drummers thought I was genius for faking it. I always wanted to be correct in the theory. Late in life, I just want to know music...The right way....
It’s super weird, but vibrato’s the only thing I’m not super self conscious about on guitar. Playing 12 gauge strings when I was young kinda meant I had to wiggle slower to make it hurt less, and finally backing off to 10’s or 9’s made mine sound infinitely more controlled than the wild wiggle of all my other guitar buddies. Also, practicing classical vibrato and blending classical and rock vibrato gives you that cool Steve Vai style circular vibrato.
Classical vibrato came so naturally to me so easily that I didn't even have to think about it but then when I try to learn to rock vibrato I feel like my hands don't work. I've only been working on it for a couple months and it's starting to come along but it is one of the hardest things I've done in my musical career I don't know why it's so hard for me.
Thanx for sharing Uncle Ben. I hadn't realized, I suck at guitar that much. Hope you're that great dude I think you are, 'cause I do love thoze vids of yours. Peace out from Hamburg-er, Ger.
Awesome channel! Just found you and love the humor, teaching and off course the playing. Just curious about your thoughts on seem of the Classic Rock players Like Hendrix Beck & Clapton! And if you where planning on doing any teaching from their techniques! Keep rockin
I found, somewhat to my surprise, I have a different problem. I find it almost impossible to play a note of any length without adding some sort of vibrato. I've been doing it so long (50+ years) that it seems to be part of my DNA now. When you listen to players like David Brent Keuning (The Killers) or The Edge, a very distinctive part of their style is just to play straight notes with no vibrato of any kind (but lots of delay effects). At first blush, this would seem to be very simple, but I find I really have to concentrate NOT to add vibrato. Is this weird or common? I'm almost tempted to string a guitar up with D'Addario Chrome Flatwounds 13-56 for that sort of material. Give my fingers something to "shock them" out of my normal mode.
I have the same issue. Playing for over 35 years and all of my influences had great vibe Rado technique. Static notes sound extremely out of place to my ears, so I always feel I have to add a little something to them.
In Alabama uncle and dad are pretty much the same thing so I’m not sure what you want to be called, for real though thank you for this video tip number 3 helped a lot
The tip that starts at the 8:12 mark is worth it’s weight in gold for sure. And the vibrato at the 11:00 mark (which combines elements of the first three tips) is my favorite!! If you haven’t already checked out uncle Ben’s lesson (and the related performance video) on the solo to Windowpane by Opeth, check it out. That first phrase (and actually that very first note) is such a great example of this and is nearly single-handedly responsible for my obsession with improving my bending and vibrato techniques. You are truly a gifted teacher uncle Ben. Where were you when I was in Junior high and high school and had more time available to practice? Wait! Don’t answer that!!
Thanks for making your vibrato suck less by watching this video!!!! Who is your favorite top shaker?! ALSO: go rent/buy Psycho Goreman NOW! It’s on Amazon and I am OBSESSED!
Marty friedman is hard to beat
Brandon Ellis, George Lynch, and Marty Friedman are my top three for sure. Would love a Lynch/Ellis vibrato breakdown lesson!
Mikael Akerfelt has always been a master of tasteful vibrato, which is why his leads sound so smooth.
Dime should be mentioned too!
Marty Friedman absolute number one. Mikael Åkerefeldt and Dime also among my favourites. Andy LaRocque and Arjen-Anthony Lucassen to complete my top five.
Angus Young's vibrato is underrated
"They can shake a rope better than the Ultimate Warrior." I come for the fiddle tips, but stay for the commentary.
Ya know, it went right overhead the first time I heard him say that. LMAO
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself" is one of my favourite lines from 2021 already. XD
Thanks for the bending vibrato lesson. Much needed. XD
My vibrato is great!
My everything else sucks tho......
This deserves 1billion likes based on the ultimate warrior reference alone
He he i am not easy to laugh but at 0:37 i was a little caught off guard! Vibrato in time with the rythm great video on the subject, and it really is more Hunkier :)
I never thought of playing vibrato in time with the music. Total gamechanger. Thanks!
I suck at guitar, hence why I am here before I get roasted.
Jesus.
"... or am I?" We won't judge! LOL
HELLOOOO 🎸
Some months when money is tight, I have to choose between Patreon and only fans. Looks like this month you have taken food out of Nikki Benz's mouth .
That's okay. I'm sure her mouth will be full regardless.

That ending is a reference to whatever the clip Mastodon uses at the beginning of Hail to Fire on the Lifesblood EP!!!! I knew I recognized that "I'm tired of eating sloppy, slimy eggs" intonation! VERY NICE!
I like the "wait and shake" instead of compulsive vibrato on every note - great stuff!
The re-bending advice starting at 8:12 is worth its weight in gold. I've struggled with getting vibrato on bended notes to sound right for many years. Thank you!
"Shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself." Lol😂🤣
One of the best teachers on RUclips can learn a lot from this guy keep the vids rockin

The funniest comment I ever got on my channel was someone telling me that my vibrato was “epileptic” - and they were right! It was my stepmom.
Oh and I think it’s pronounced Sybi-awn.
Yup, i'm so glad I stumbled across this. Thanks for taking the time out to put this out
Gregory Kochory is outstanding.
And "Wylde vibrato" is the most fun vibrato there is!
Thanks, Uncy Bang!
this yolo mouthtaste sounds like the yngwie guy what a coincidence
I'm pretty sure that Uncle Ben's series can cure depression
I can't believe this is free. Thank you so much.
I never thought of vibrato synced to the beat, I really suck!!! I might probably do it naturaly but I have to check! You rock!
I just love Uncle Ben's sense of humour. My GOD!
I lost it at "mosquito on a sybian." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You never fail to address the simple things in an entertaining yet memorable manner man!!! Thanks again!
Uncle Ben, your humor and delivery, combined with knowledge, is the hunkiest. Fuckin love your videos! Thank you for all you do, squawwwwww
The Phil Sandifer shoutout! Thats my vibrato and "bend-tonation" hero.
He’s the man!!!!

Great video, this is so important. Compliments for the puns!!
Love that jam at 7:21 - reminds me of a backing track on Ridge Racer, on Play Station Nice 👍
Wow, this is a great lesson, you sure can make that guitar sing with emotion Uncle Ben. Seriously thank you, I needed this.
Great tips, especially the one recommends using the tuner to see if you can full/half bend...
And the best thing, you can use these vibrato tips in another solo activity........................
I feel like alot of people and even instructors skip over developing good vibrato. Great lesson brother 🤘🤘
Yasss! Stepmom jokes! Now I need to call my aunt Julie to check up on her... I suspect she's next..
Thanks Uncle Ben ! Extra points for the Jesco reference !!
Uncle Ben: Your vibrato is bad, man. Try harder. 🤨
Me playing 11s on my Les Paul is E standard: Oww... not fair, dude. 😨
Ouch!!!
yeah buddy! can't handle those bridge cables anymore, I don't have the stones to go to 9's but the 10's feel oh so nice on middle-aged hands.
Some of your best work yet! Thanks for the great tips!

Jesco White! The Bendin' Bandit
"Yolo MouthTaste!" - He's the best. Nobody is better than Yolo! Haha.
Funny thing is he refuses to call him by his real name, even though he mentions him quite a lot, and not in a negative way, quite the contrary. I wonder what that's all about... 🤔
HEY BOY , come out to the barn and vibrate away. Oh wait I meant Vibrato away YEEHAA. 😄🐴🐃
COUNTRY STRONG BEN! 💪
Jeez, I was just playing guitar in my living room, practicing my poor loose vibrato. A minute later, come here, see your last video about VIBRATO? Synchronicity eh? Thank you Uncle Ben.
I wish that I could find a you...but for BASS. :(
Great stuff once again Ben! I had to pause the video and laugh for the first couple minutes it was so hilarious when you said they are all hunks LOL.
Great wisdom and super entertaining - like always Ben! I love it!
RUclips is getting out of control with these no skip double ADS in the middle of video's.😡😡😡
“That’s the price you pay for free”
-Unc Ben
I hope everyone got the Adam Sandler reference. Ever imagine what shampoo bottle Adam was thinking about when he wrote that song?
Hahahaha
Wes Hauch is my vibrato role model
That alternate intro is Jesco White's sloppy slimy eggs.
Also, Mastodon uses the same thing as an intro to Hail to Fire
This may have been intuitive for a lot of guitarists, but for me it was quite educational \m/
Thanks m8 !!!
I can’t wait to become a professional rope shaker!
Thank you for helping to remove any more Kirk Hammett or Kerry King clones or wannabes from the guitar playing community...great video!
Check out Brandon Ellis if you havent already, that man can shake his arm fingers to perfection. Wide as a barn door.
Thx Uncle Ben, my guitar’s gonna get an intense fingering session after math class👌
When he said "medium pace", I immediately stopped what I was doing just to make sure there was an Adam Sandler nod
Hahahaha yup!!!
If i were to discover that secretly, you saw that clip of the Ultimate Warrior and it triggered this idea and you made this entire video just to get to use that clip in this context... Well sir, then I would still point my drink at you and nod approvingly. well done.
Uncle Ben what must we accomplish for you to do a tutorial of how to play Mr Crowley 1981 live version 🥺🥺🥺
I'm glad you brought this to everyone's attention, Uncle Ben. Cat Fancy is an abomination.
Old joke incoming....UNCLE BEN IS COOKING UP JOHNSONVILLE VIBRATS!!
Awesome any exercise tips for better vibrato

I popped (and threw in a wrestling reference, as is my gig).
Yolo Mouthtaste. God I love this channel. Thanks BE for the continued greatness, you’re a super presence. Cheers! Jz
Ben Gojira New album dropped partially! First sing is Siiiiiiiick. Born for one thing album is Fortitude. Thanks for all you do brother.
How on earth do you vibrato a string that is already bent UP? That was my question, and you finally solved that mystery! Thank you!
Easier than a string that is not bent actually!
@@ricomajestic Once I get used to it, I hope so
"shake it more than twice and now you're playing with yourself"
I died 10:42
That Kurt Hamlett guy is the king of pitchy and uneven vibrato.
mosquito on bath salts
Thanks for helping me save my relationship Uncle Ben. My girlfriend not longer wants to breakup up with me cause of my horrible vibrato.
Thanks for adding a new batch of mistakes I do to my already big collection of mistakes.

Your my hero Ben
Ben, you’re awesome! At this point I’m not sure if I’m watching your videos for guitar purposes or hilarious comedic inserts :)

Vibrato is the most important thing!!! Ben another question ! What do you think about kemper? Can I achieve a Jeff loomis 5150 tone ?
Yeah totally, with the right profile
I like to cheat and use the tremolo arm for vibrato on bends. Not always an option tbough
Thanx for sharing Uncle Ben. I hadn't realized, I suck at guitar that much.

I'm sticking with Lynch, LaRoque, Joshua Jones, and Brandon Ellis.
Oh and Psycho Goreman reference... Nice.
BOOM I’m so glad you caught it hahaha
when trying to vibrato at higher tempos my wrist literally just stops working and it makes me wanna die
The vibrato on the bend is a great tip.... a puzzle to me

I was glad to see you suggest practicing with a tuner. I thought I was being a little too picky by doing that
