I just wanted to say thank you so much for taking the time to post this video....it saved me at least $500. I used your technique to troubleshoot which board was making my Samsung plasma click and not turn on and although it wasn't the x or y axis board but the power board itself. No bulging capacitors but looked on the website for used parts and new power board for $42 shipped to my house fixed the tv perfectly.....thanks again and don't listen to any of those idiots who commented negatively above me....you saved me a whole bunch of money and time. If I could send you a bottle a whiskey I would!!! Thanks for the help

Matt Bergen hi Matt there is another guy on RUclips called 12 volt Vids And he has much more in depth Diagnostic procedures for these types of situations So far I have just been able to change out Certain boards on the tvs and have had good luck But if you want A more specific diagnosis then is channel will be the 1 to check out
Matthew Olson I'm really hoping for a base diagnosis from its trouble blink, do you know a good source of such? No caps look bad though I'm hoping it has weak dc output for an easy fix!
G'day Mate. Thanks for the video. I have pretty much the identical TV, but the ozzie version model number. I wasn't so lucky with the diagnosis of the two boards. Still clicks away. Any ideas ? CheersBrett
sounds like you have some other short. you unplugged both the x and y boards ... hmm... did you look over the power supply good to make sure no bulged capacitors?
the clicking sound is from the relay(?) in the power supply. this can be caused by faulty solder joints in the transformer (square thing with the yellow big strip). I just repaired the click on a samsung TV this morning by taking off the power board and resoldering all the connections on the back of the board on the transformer (and all the other connections for caps ,etc. which I could se. samsung uses lead free solder which apparently does not with standard the years of on/off - heating/cooling of operation so eventually it can crack. and have bad connections. cheers
I have a 55 inch Samsung model# pn50b650s1f no picture and a clicking noise I check the x and y boards and nothing changed but when I pull the power cord for the board with the av and hdmi plugs clicking stop but the tv did not come on what should I do
Getting back to the basics of trouble shooting boyes. That's exactly what this video is all about. The fundamentals of just using your freaking brain instead of just relying on a gadget to solve your issue. Dont get me wrong I love my multimeter. But this video basic reminded me that it's ok to put the multimeter down and that it's ok to use common sense once again. Thank you for the reminder and for the video.
good video but i cant find the problem because after removing the cables i get tv working. only after some time after working it starts to turn off auto and eventually the clicky cliky starts again. if i disconnect cables that goes to tv board i have nothing (no turning is possible) and same happens to t-con. the power board does not show any swalow transistor so... where can o be sure aboit the problem? t-con? tv board? power board? x and y board unpluged and still makes clicking. so its not x and y board problem.
You may have an eagle eye... wow. This vid is really old so the entire board has been thrown in the garbage years ago but thanks just the same. The TV is still in service. I replaced the whole board
i need help whit a samsung plasma model pn51f4500af its a 50 inch and has vetical line in it small colored ones in about 5 places and one black one to the left all vertical anyone please and thanks
Can some one put the part # he used on here my tv just went out lastnight due to bad weather I need it fix on the cheap cheap instead of spending 400 on a new one please some on help! Thanks!
That part number is different for every tv. You have to go through the troubleshooting steps and then look up the appropriate board on ebay and pray someone is parting a similar one out. I got a replacement board for 35bux
WRONG, You need to ground your body to the tv chassis. Not an earth ground. This reminds me of a story my old boss told me. Guy comes in with ultra high powered 2 way radio and a rather large booster the way exceded FCC rules and regulations in his truck, with this he added 4 alternators to power this mess But on his radio it called for a solid earth ground, well its a truck you cant drive a copper rod into the ground 10' and ground to it then be able to drive any place. So he did the next best thing Portable earth ground a 5 gallon bucket of dirt and a copper rod shoved into it. My point is a chasis ground And earth ground are 2 differnt things Becuse translation dont always say what it ment people get confused about what one is required, but I can assure you You should have been grounded to the chassis of the TV and not the houses earth ground however either will eliminate a static charge. In repair shops I belive they ground both. But your at home. By the way low humidity causes extreme static electricity so its best to be in a area with 45% humidity. To dry static builds faster to wet mold grows. 45% is the happy middle. To test with dry hair run a comb in your hair, if hairs fallow the comb its lots of static if not then its low statically charged area. And honestly your biggest concern is the ic chips not so much the boards. Handle the board by the edges and try not to touch metal parts and you may not even need to wrist strap. I have one but honestly I never use it. And I havnt had a problem. That said ive heard of people just touching the power button and the static charge screw up the computer. So honestly you never know. Live by the 45% rule this cuts out any problems you may have its also healthier.
The repair was done by Replacing component boards. If I was a better repairman....I'd repair the boards by replacing defective components. Fair enough ?
How do i search for " how to repair my plasma power supply" without wanting to just replace boards.... there use to be heaps of videos on YT but flooded by replacing videos....
LOL - because your video was something like I would make. Somewhat wordy and much like talking to one's self. BTW, thanks for your wordy video. I took the back off of mine. Got my volt meter out and the power supply wasn't putting out any voltage. I found a ceramic capacitor that had a burn mark underneath it. Also, the soldered-in fuse was blown (who makes fuses where you can't see inside them? DOH). Even though I bought my plasma in 2013, they don't have replacement power supplies, so I had to take it out and mail it to a company in virginia to fix it. I could have replaced the ceramic capacitor but I don't know what else could be blown. Best leave it to the dude with the diagram and the oscilloscope to figure it out.
That TV swallows 440 watts of electricity every hour (almost half a kw/h) and will cost you an arm and two legs if you use it. That is why the previous owner binned it and bought a more energy efficient TV
The previous owner binned it because it wasn't working. But yes...I'm sure it's a energy hog. I ended up with it and use it all the time and my energy bill is indeed pricey
@@matthewolson8875 Compare how much better the pic is from a plasma . I've had 3 lcd's and 2 plasma's and still am amazed by the picture quality of the plasmas. And in the winter it helps keep the room warm. I've seen little to no difference in my electric bill. I have a $2500 LG 65 8500 and the 50" Samsung 450 series has a brighter , more clear image. Only a few lcds come close as well as OLEDs. When you turn off your lights there is still light coming from the plasma even on a black screen. When I go into the electronics stores and see even the most expensive sets there they still can't out do my old plasma. Seems repairs are cheap too.
Matthew Olson haha I just personally wouldn’t use a power tool. Electronic boards are super sensitive. Plus if you’re pushing and you slip you could damage the board.
Great job on the repairs. I also have a plasma that cycles off and on so thanks for the video. Replacing the main board and power supply as I tested the y and x boards and they didn’t seem to affect anything.
You got lucky. Its not a good idea to start unplugging stuff. All because you unplug a board, doesn't mean that its necessarily that board. It just means you have decrease the load on the power supply. No disrespect.. glad it worked out... its just others might say ok, lets do that and not work for them
@@matthewolson8875 If it lasted a year or more you fixed the right part. Don't let the naysayers get the upper hand . Sometimes we just need a little encouragement To fix our own things . I say GOOD JOB .
I'm not sure but ,if anyone else trying to find out printed circuit board repairs try Saankramer Electronic Magazine System (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.
Agustin Sampayo well in $0.01 you are right I did not do a component level repair but then again I never claimed to be a television repairman all I did was go through some simple troubleshooting steps to isolate the problem to the specific board as it turns out it probably is not cost effective to do a component level repair in this television and it is far easier to pick up a particular board on eBay for $36 or whatever it end up being there is another guy on RUclips that is excellent at component-level repair and I highly suggest you check out his videos 12 volt vids I think
Jason T if I recall correctly. ..the original retail on this tv was well north of $3k...though my buddy likely paid closer to 2500 for it. it was a very expensive tv
was I claiming to be an electronics repair expert? I looked over all the caps pretty good and couldn't see any specific issues...don't see the point in taking the level of diagnosis further since a new board was so cheap
I'll buy a board ONLY as a last resort (or if Customer's paying), always been a component level repair guy, but then again i am 54 & old school ;) *E* pic = *I* diot x *R* epairs
always wanted to try repairing mailed in boards but i already got too many irons in the furnace as it is drop me an email some time when ya get a Problem Child ;) malfunctionjunction at gmx com

i have a Panasonic 50" 3d plasma tv with a broken screen. but my samsung 60" 3d plasma wont turn on.......you think its possible to use the power board out my panasonic and use it in my samsung?
if its the same model # board.. then its a swap, otherwise you are gonna be fiddling with resoldering etc... and that would take a pretty smart electrical engineer to figure that one out...
ok
I have a samsung pn60f5500afxzc that is g8ving me an led trouble code of 2 quick power led flashes and for some reason cannot locate what this trouble code tells a user/aspiring repairman. I'm not certain where to check dc output if it's power supply issue. And guidance would be appreciated muchly! Not sure how to check output power offhand pin wise/process. SoS
Matt Bergen I am unsure of such a source I'm sorry I cannot help you further
Matthew Olson no worries, thanks for the replies!
Matt Bergen I wish you best of luck let me know what you come up with
How much does the piece cost?
Yassine Dorgaa the replacement board was 35$ or so if I remember correctly
Thank you for the reminder and for the video.
welcome and thanks for the comment!
good video but i cant find the problem because after removing the cables i get tv working. only after some time after working it starts to turn off auto and eventually the clicky cliky starts again. if i disconnect cables that goes to tv board i have nothing (no turning is possible) and same happens to t-con. the power board does not show any swalow transistor so... where can o be sure aboit the problem? t-con? tv board? power board? x and y board unpluged and still makes clicking. so its not x and y board problem.
at 2:40 big capacitor looks bad
You may have an eagle eye... wow. This vid is really old so the entire board has been thrown in the garbage years ago but thanks just the same. The TV is still in service. I replaced the whole board

+Bryan Copley sorry, I can't help with that issue... best of luck
that's a T-con board, not a logic board
Can some one put the part # he used on here my tv just went out lastnight due to bad weather I need it fix on the cheap cheap instead of spending 400 on a new one please some on help! Thanks!
That part number is different for every tv. You have to go through the troubleshooting steps and then look up the appropriate board on ebay and pray someone is parting a similar one out. I got a replacement board for 35bux
WRONG, You need to ground your body to the tv chassis. Not an earth ground.
This reminds me of a story my old boss told me. Guy comes in with ultra high powered 2 way radio and a rather large booster the way exceded FCC rules and regulations in his truck, with this he added 4 alternators to power this mess
But on his radio it called for a solid earth ground, well its a truck you cant drive a copper rod into the ground 10' and ground to it then be able to drive any place. So he did the next best thing
Portable earth ground a 5 gallon bucket of dirt and a copper rod shoved into it.
My point is a chasis ground
And earth ground are 2 differnt things
Becuse translation dont always say what it ment people get confused about what one is required, but I can assure you
You should have been grounded to the chassis of the TV and not the houses earth ground however either will eliminate a static charge.
Its good points and thanks for the reply. Humidity and chassis ground....not earth ground. Nice. Thanks
Mmmmm there should be a different TERM used between "Repair and replaced"......
@@kermets if you want to learn how to replace components on boards you'll need a lot of electronics experience. Look up 12voltvids here on RUclips.
glitch 15:15
huh? the vid isn't even 15 min long...
Matthew Olson exactly it glitches out and goes to your history
sorry, I'm still not following... the vid glitches out?
on my end I can see the vid just fine all the way through
Matthew Olson yes and goes to viewers history it only works on some laptops and phones
I'm guessing you made this video for your own records, and not really for anyone to watch.
Ernie Godsey uh....please rephrase that question
Ernie Godsey yep! I'm with ya!
Lookit all 'em wires...
TheIAMINU ya...no joke
Seems repairs are cheap too.
to Olson : you need to know more trouble shooting techniques
? Any particular reason why?

Little cringy with the power tool
Were u worried I would hurt myself or the electronics? Did I do something wrong here?
Matthew Olson haha I just personally wouldn’t use a power tool. Electronic boards are super sensitive. Plus if you’re pushing and you slip you could damage the board.
@@Bennythecoredriver fair enough. ...thanks
No disrespect.. glad it worked out... its just others might say ok, lets do that and not work for them
like I said...I followed someone else's guide...so I take no credit for the technique....and I'm fine with getting lucky:)

Hi
Any one knows how to fix Samsung PN59d6500 how to fix I did try to replace X main board but noting happened any other idea greatly appreciated
what was the diagnosis? what were/was/is the symptoms?
This video should't have the word "repair" in the title. 15 fucking minutes of the guy just unscrewing and screwing a new plate. dissapointing.
Agustin Sampayo by the way this television is currently in use today years later so in that sense the repair did work
Lol that you think the new board came from a tv that was cracked. It's much more likely that it was stolen and then traded for crack. LMAO !
well...it's always possible that is stolen but I'm hoping that is unlikely
I hope that you weren't lyao at me for thinking the best of people
A $4000 tv? Lol, yeah ok
Jason T if I recall correctly. ..the original retail on this tv was well north of $3k...though my buddy likely paid closer to 2500 for it. it was a very expensive tv
Haha
glad you like it!
uh.... nope?

Wow, anyone can be a board jockey. Try component level and get back to me.
was I claiming to be an electronics repair expert?
I looked over all the caps pretty good and couldn't see any specific issues...don't see the point in taking the level of diagnosis further since a new board was so cheap
I'll buy a board ONLY as a last resort (or if Customer's paying), always been a component level repair guy, but then again i am 54 & old school ;) *E* pic = *I* diot x *R* epairs
