  • Here is my easy, beginner friendly tutorial about making summer hats for my kids using the two hat method. The two hat method is the easiest way to construct a bucket hat and means that your hat is also reversible. This hat is created using a free pattern that you can access from the link below.
    Let's get making!
    BUCKET HAT PATTERN www.wavesandwi...
    The website used to be called "Made by Jack's Mum" but since filming this video the name of the site has been changed to "Waves and Wild". It's the same pattern that I used though.

    ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
    Welcome to My Mum Makes! I’ve started this channel as a creative outlet to share my sewing projects online. I’ve loved to sew since my Mum taught me as a little girl and I find it relaxing, productive and fun. I love the chance to make things for my kids, myself and our home and I want you to feel motivated to give sewing a try and get creative. I think creativity is good for us especially as Mums. We can get so stuck in our everyday repetition, but spending some me-time creating something is a great way to unwind, prioritise our needs and use our brains in a different way to the everyday. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @mymummakes.marie to see more of what I’m up to.
    GET TO KNOW US:

      Great point about it being sun blocking. I know that a tighter weave would block more sun but didn't realize there was fabric with an actual sun grade rating! Thanks for sharing

      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад +1

      Yes it is a fun project! If you're super new to sewing my tips for this hat are to make sure to use a lot of pins and to go slowly around the curved seams because they're the most challenging parts. It's definitely a project that I've made over and over so it's a good one for sure though so do have a go!

      Thanks, I'm glad you like the hat. I use Buckram which is firm iron on interfacing. I added 1.5cm to the brim which is just over 1/2 an inch. Hopefully that helps

    Would it be okay to put the interfacing on only one brim?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      Absolutely! The more interfacing the stiffer it will be, but you can certainly just do it on one brim. It may be a little more floppy than the ones in my video but it will certainly still work.

    @bazan1686 2 года назад +1

    What is the white you but between the brims?

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад

      It's iron on interfacing to make the brim of the hat have a bit more structure and not be so floppy

      Hello from Perth! 👋🏽 thank you for the awesome tutorial! I am having a really hard time sewing the top of the hat and sides without the sides bunching up. It’s almost as though the side circumference is larger, but I cut as precise as possible and measured my seam allowances. I also used all the notches and went really slowly. Any tips for me? Thanks 😊

    • @MyMumMakes
      @MyMumMakes  2 года назад +1

      It is very fiddly to sew together without it bunching. I sew it so the hat top is down and the hat side which is the bunchy part is on top. I hope the fabric together and stretch them to help keep them from bunching. Thinner fabric is easier too. Hope that helps
