WOW, I have been sewing for 50 years, and have done many bias bindings. This was the MOST helpful information I have ever seen. Most of this I have already done, but I always have to stop and think, and feel like I am "reinventing the wheel" every time. I'm going to bookmark this as a quick reference. Your videos are so very clear and easy to see what you are doing! Thank YOU!
I totally agree with Suzi. I also have sewed for about as long and I have learned some better techniques from this. Thanks Lauren for the great instruction.
Thank you such a comprehensive tutorial on bias bindings. I’ve always hand sewn the final bias attachment to a garment, but now I feel you have given me the courage to try top sticking on my machine. Thank you!
Oh THANK YOU !!! I’m a beginner, stuck on a “Beginner Pattern” for months until I found this video. Your mini-facing technique explains it all, and I especially appreciate how you used contrasting fabric and thread colors for the visuals. Relief!
Thank you for your video🥰 I am overwhelmed by how to sew bias neckline, until I watched your video, everything is crystal clear now. I saved your video right away for further reference. Thank you again🤗
This is by far the best bias binding tutorial EVER. I didn’t know there were as many ways - and they all look so professional. Thank you so much for this. I will be referring to it often!
so so nice to be able to actualy follow along with what you are saying. your instructions are so clear and i had at least 3 ahhh moments while watching. thank you!
Your method for joining the ends is the best I've seen! I'm making a poncho out of a vintage viyella wool liberty print, so I have to cut a hole in the center for the head and wanted to bias-bind that edge. Now I'm not so afraid of it, thanks.
Thank you so much for the two Videos on Bias Binding. Bias Binding has been a bit confusing to me. I’ve never found information that explained everything about binding so well...you covered it all. I get it now😊
Thank you so much for this. As an experienced sewer, bias binding still scares the hell out of me & I’ll avoid patterns that use it as a finishing technique. Now I know this video is here I feel a bit braver! Thank you. x
Great tutorials again .Have just finished a little pinafore dress for my niece's little girl and have put bias on it round the neck armholes and pocket.it looks lovely .Can't wait to see the new Fabrics.😁😎
Thanks so much for this, really clear explanations. I have a question - is there a reason why the bias binding can't be attached at the same time as sewing the seam? And for binding a seam with exposed edges, does it matter if you start by attaching the bias binding to the inside then fold to the outside and do the topstitching from the outside? Thankyou!
Really informative, thank you! I was curious about one thing though. I have some scrap pieces of strech fabric and wondered if I am able to use these without cutting on the bias?
Thanks Ann. I have hand stitched binding only a few times I think and its usually been on fabric that is either double gauze or a little thicker as I find with something like a cotton lawn for example, I'd rather just see the stitching :)
Hello! I just saw this video and your other video on form tape interfacing. Is that something that I would use together with the bias binding? Do I first iron on the form tape interfacing and then sew on the bias binding?
Hello, yes thats right, on fine fabrics where often pattern instructions suggest you stay stitch neckline to stabilise them, you can replace that step by using form tape interfacing and then applying the bias binding afterwards :)
Hi I am new to sewing crazy starting at 69 haha if put poly-cotton bias on the bottom of a t shirt and it's puckered all the way round why has that happened ?? And you explain everything so even I understand it all thank you so much yours Konrad
Hello, it depends on what fabric the t-shirt is made from really. If it is stretchy fabric then I would not recommend putting a woven bias binding on that as the fabrics have very different properties and are not really compatible in that context. Without pictures or further details it is hard to diagnose the problem specifically :)
Can you use double folded bias tape for curved edges? I accidentally made a double folded bias. I can't figure out if I can use it for curved edges or if its best to use single fold bias tape.
Hello, yes you can use it for curved edges as its the bias that gives the stretch, no the number of folds. If you made double fold you can always just flatten out the centre fold and then you will have single fold. Hope that helps :)
Hi Keli, if you were doing a neckline for example you would sew both shoulder seams first so the the neckline was like a loop and then put the binding on. Similarly for an arm hole, you would sew should seam and side seam so the arm hole is like a loop to and then put the binding on. Hope that helps :)
Thanks Sydney :) It's the simple sleeveless top from my book and I did a tutorial a while back of how to add pin tucks...here is the link :) guthrie-ghani.co.uk/blog/simple-sleeveless-top-blog-series-adding-in-pin-tucks-tutorial
i’m actually getting a knot in my stomach watching this 😰it’s a great tutorial don’t get me wrong but i just know i can’t do it ive ( over the years ) tried it hundreds of times practiced practiced. practiced but it never looks neat and tidy so ive just stopped even trying
Thank you so much for explanation. You have such a good smiling face, brings positive energy. Also, there was no annoying background music.

This was really helpful,thanks
Hi, any chance you could address sewing a bias binding on a v neck?
شكرا جزيلا لك سيدتي الكريمة مشكورة
Really informative, thank you! I was curious about one thing though. I have some scrap pieces of strech fabric and wondered if I am able to use these without cutting on the bias?
Hello, yes for stretch fabric you don't cut on the bias like you do with woven fabrics :)
Thank you so much🙏🏼🌷🙏🏼
Very helpful Lauren. Personally I like to handstitch the back so no stitches show on the front. It might be nice to see your way of doing that too. 😉😘
Thanks Ann. I have hand stitched binding only a few times I think and its usually been on fabric that is either double gauze or a little thicker as I find with something like a cotton lawn for example, I'd rather just see the stitching :)
Thank you, you have been a great help!
Excelente!
Muchas gracias.
Amazing tutorial as always. Do you have any advice on how to finish a neckline with bias binding without the stitches being too visible? Thank you!
6:33 do this method and then sew by hand, just catch it in from the reverse, so nothing shows at front 👍
Thank you
Great video. ❤️
Fabulous thanks so much 🤗

I e never heard of form interfacing? Could you explain further?
Thankyou

Adorable accent!
Do you not need to clip on the curves?

Hi I'm a brand new sewer. Do you put your bias bindings on the individual front and back pattern of your shirt first then sew them together?
Hi Keli, if you were doing a neckline for example you would sew both shoulder seams first so the the neckline was like a loop and then put the binding on. Similarly for an arm hole, you would sew should seam and side seam so the arm hole is like a loop to and then put the binding on. Hope that helps :)

Hi Lauren - Thanks for all the great information!!! Wondering if there is a pattern for the dark blue tank with the pintucks? Love it!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
What do you do if you are using a fabric that you cannot iron?
It can be tricky in that instance so it's best to use a ready made binding that co-ordinates with your fabric to get the best finish :)
Merci
