  • What do you use to finish your wood projects? My favourite is a simple paste wax that I make from beeswax and raw linseed or flaxseed oil. It is easy to make and gives a nice smooth and silky finish. It also smells good and is literally edible which makes it perfect for kitchen items or children's toys.
It's also great for protecting tools against rust.

Nothing like learning how to do it yourself...

Of course I imagine you can buy beeswax as well.

Of course. But it’s nice to use stuff that would have been thrown away otherwise.

@@imadethischannel Oh ABSOLUTELY! A friend recently gave me a whole big box of old candles she didn't want any more and I am making very rough free form candles for my camping/hiking/bushcraft kit but I am going to get proper moulds and make proper candles. There is so much wax there and paraffin wax and candles are SO EXPENSIVE to buy!

Hey, have you tried it on some pine or other 'blonde' wood ? doean't it give a yellowish/orange tone to them ? Just curious.

I have. In my experience, linseed oil gives a slight yellowish coloration. This mixture darkens the tone a little bit but I think every oily finish does.

Hm, I have never tried. Maybe coffee?

Update : i tried, turn out it was either not a fine enough powder or it just wont go in the wood and stay on it till it get wipped off with the excess of wax, resulting in a normal but dirty finish, i'll try coffee in a few day, thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, I also imagine that you need something that is soluble in oil.

Linseed Oil’s a good idea. I wonder how this would go with an aromatic like Orange oil or Lemon oil?

    • @imadethischannel
      @imadethischannel  3 года назад +1

Lemon oil is used in wood finishes, so I guess it could be worth a try.

Linseed oil dries, but citrus oils don't. I think you could add lemon oil to this paste wax, but you'll need a drying oil. I make a similar paste wax with walnut oil, which dries. Great video!

Would that work with parafin wax 🤔

I think paraffin works as well. But it doesn’t smell as good.
