They could have just gone for the draw but tried to go for the win at one time, This is test cricket and it was a hard game but in the end, the last session belonged to the NZ's. Gracious in defeat is a good virtue. Good on you, hope we get to see some gritty Ind v Pak test matches too.

Naseem should have just 'dead batted' that Santner delivery! the ball would have gone straight into the ground. Very difficult for tailenders just to block - especially if their batting isn't particularly great. NZ could well have rued a slow over rate all day - they bowled just 13 overs per hour in the 1st session. I'd have been tempted to have spin at one end all day - occasionally bowling both spinners at either ends. Both Santner and Williamson got plenty of turn and bounce and could easily have had either Fawad or Rizwan a lot sooner. Pakistan wouldn't have taken any risks against them so neither would have 'leaked runs'. Still, it was a great test match with an equally great finish proving that it remains the best cricket format.

Being the batting mainstay, and the added responsibility of leading the side is too much for even someone as relaxed as Kane.
@@soyouseethisI just felt NZ's slow over rate could easily have backfired on themselves - (especially when Pakistan were 240-4). Better shot selection and more 'dead bat' blocking from the Pakistan tail could have secured a draw. The quicker the overs were bowled the more chance NZ would have won a lot more comfortably.

I guess the management trusts the quick bowlers to do the job. Williamson is not too keen to bowl these days, and there is not much faith in Santner.
Even in this match he was handed the ball only when the seamers were tiring, or there was no swing.
Had Ajaz Patel been there he would have bowled a lot many overs. He is more of a specialist spinner. Santner is a bit part player. He doesn't induce confidence.
