Eurovision: Songs Denmark Almost Sent (1957 - 2023) | Second Places in Danish National Finals

  • Denmark has a perfect record of never having chosen a song internally. They did, however, miss quite a few contests - particularly when they withdrew between 1967 and 1977, but also when they were relegated a few times around the turn of the millennium. Other than that, 1958 and 1965 are missing because the runners-up were not announced.

Those last few years Denmark has an impressive track record of choosing the wrong ones.

The 1978 Danish final included its first winner (Grethe Ingman) and its eventual second winners (Olsen Brothers). The third winner (Emmelie De Forest) was still fifteen years aways from being born.

The golden era for Denmark was the 1980s. I really liked almost all of their songs from that decade.

Great video. In 1965 Denmark actually had an internal selection. The shortlisted songs were never made public except for the winner and one other song called Drømmefloden.

omg, norway's winning song from 1985 is suspiciously similar to the dmgp 1984 runner-up, it looks like we had situations like with alessandra and klara before

Wanna be loved (2014) is such a bop!❤️ I also think Olsen Brothers should’ve won in 2005 too. Their song was so so catchy!

'Sleepless' remains one of my favourite national final songs and also is probably the very first one as a Eurovision fan that I remember genuinely loving. It has a special place in my heart, that's for sure.

The 1966 photo you put for Sussie Faber, isn’t her, but rather the winner of that year, Ulla Pia. That’s why she’s seen wearing a sash. Photos of her can be found on the DR photo archive and even on the song’s release cover.

Good video! Some minor details: The name of the runner up artist in 1990 is Birgitte Gade, not Garde. Also the official name of the preselection in 1995 wasn't Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, but Musik Event. It's so far the only year when it has been called something else.

Wow, Denmark really made a mistake sending Anja Nissen in 2017 instead of 2016, she could’ve done much better in the Televote with Never Alone and the Jury Vote still would’ve rewarded the impressive vocals, missed opportunity to qualify

„Hallelujah“, „League of Light“, „Starlight“, „One“, „Never Alone“, „Wanna Be Loved“, „Sleepless“, „Someday“, „Little Yellow Radio“, „Allt Mellem Hemmel Og Jord“ are such amazing songs, still listening to them very often. One of my most favorite entries in whole ESC history.
Please Denmark, give us again the best ESC national final back ❤

In 2002 there were two songs in 2nd position, but here they only showed one song.
