Eurovision: Songs Denmark Almost Sent (1957 - 2023) | Second Places in Danish National Finals

- Denmark has a perfect record of never having chosen a song internally. They did, however, miss quite a few contests - particularly when they withdrew between 1967 and 1977, but also when they were relegated a few times around the turn of the millennium. Other than that, 1958 and 1965 are missing because the runners-up were not announced.
Those last few years Denmark has an impressive track record of choosing the wrong ones.
The 1978 Danish final included its first winner (Grethe Ingman) and its eventual second winners (Olsen Brothers). The third winner (Emmelie De Forest) was still fifteen years aways from being born.
Grethe and Olsen Brothers competed in both 1979 and 1980 as well
And Grethe actually tied for 1st in 1979 but lost the tiebreaker
so many bops! i love denmark
The golden era for Denmark was the 1980s. I really liked almost all of their songs from that decade.
Love 2023 they are better than what we sent
I also believe that Danish National finals offer the best stages every year
Fun fact: The 2019 runner-up has Greenlandic on it.
sleeples 2011, wanna be loved, suitcase. imagine those at eurovision... epic!
Great video. In 1965 Denmark actually had an internal selection. The shortlisted songs were never made public except for the winner and one other song called Drømmefloden.
Actually all the songs from the Danish final 1965, were performed on TV in June the same year.
omg, norway's winning song from 1985 is suspiciously similar to the dmgp 1984 runner-up, it looks like we had situations like with alessandra and klara before
Wanna be loved (2014) is such a bop!❤️ I also think Olsen Brothers should’ve won in 2005 too. Their song was so so catchy!
Such a shame for 2014, they could've figured way better at home with this great tune! :(
I also think 2014 runners up are better than the one who won
'Sleepless' remains one of my favourite national final songs and also is probably the very first one as a Eurovision fan that I remember genuinely loving. It has a special place in my heart, that's for sure.
+1, it has a very special place in my heart too
DMGP 2013 will forever be my favourite preselection EVER of ANY COUNTRY. There is not a bad song
2010 - 2013 DMGP era was a sort of bangers era
This was such an amazing selection, true! I‘m Not Alone is my most listened song from that year I believe
Sleepless, Hallelujah, Wanna Be Loved, Suitcase, Never Alone, Starlight and League of Light all should've gone to esc, specially 2011, 2016 & 2019 🇬🇱💔
I love both 2 in 1 and Uno but those years they also selected amazing songs...
Thanks so much
Ever since 2014 the 2nd places have been better than the winners (except 2021)
even 2016 and 2017? jesus 😭
@@ong48Those 2 in particular
The 1966 photo you put for Sussie Faber, isn’t her, but rather the winner of that year, Ulla Pia. That’s why she’s seen wearing a sash. Photos of her can be found on the DR photo archive and even on the song’s release cover.
thanks, will fix this in the 2024 version!
What I get from this is that Denmark only has one good choice each year.
Good video! Some minor details: The name of the runner up artist in 1990 is Birgitte Gade, not Garde. Also the official name of the preselection in 1995 wasn't Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, but Musik Event. It's so far the only year when it has been called something else.
4:04 what a jumpscare
Wow, Denmark really made a mistake sending Anja Nissen in 2017 instead of 2016, she could’ve done much better in the Televote with Never Alone and the Jury Vote still would’ve rewarded the impressive vocals, missed opportunity to qualify
„Hallelujah“, „League of Light“, „Starlight“, „One“, „Never Alone“, „Wanna Be Loved“, „Sleepless“, „Someday“, „Little Yellow Radio“, „Allt Mellem Hemmel Og Jord“ are such amazing songs, still listening to them very often. One of my most favorite entries in whole ESC history.
Please Denmark, give us again the best ESC national final back ❤
Do you plan on resuming these runner up videos for the other countries?
1989 was a good year
2011 is one of my all time favorites. Should’ve won
You should do songs that Portugal almost sent...
1996 the best, so seductive and sensual
1991: Bizarre!
Can you do this for Serbia?
2019 was such a robbery
Freedom was the real winner this year
Fun Fact: in 1979 there was a tie for 1st position.
In 2002 there were two songs in 2nd position, but here they only showed one song.
according to wikipedia, the tie in 2002 was broken based on which song received more 10s, so the other song is considered to have finished 3rd
@@kjESCiltrue that👍🏾 as well with the tie for 2nd place in 2014.
Denmark didnt participate in 1996
And so what? We still had a national final and a winner, the international juries just didn't like it although it became a major hit afterwards as "Paint my love" by Michael Learns to Rock who had written it.
2010 and 2011 were done dirty
