Your Patti reaction was on point. She was a vocal beast with stage presence to match. Not everyone can it those not notes with such ease and connect to the emotion that connects them with emotional message in the song lyrics. She is one of the GOATS. This comment comes from a new suscriber.
This is when I became a Patti LaBelle fan after Motown returns to the Apollo in 1985 and I was 16.
She literally killed it! WOOOOOW!
That was actually her own hair. She would have her hair done that way she would have it shaped like a Stetson cowboy hat and it would take 6 to 8 hours to do her hair. This was at the Apollo theater and it was a TV show that was a special and it was a tribute to Barry Gordy and Motown in 1985. Some of the other performers were Diana Ross, Mavis Staples, Little Richard, the Reverend Al Green, the Temptations, the Four Tops, I also think that Sarah Vaughan might have been on the program. As well as Rod Stewart. There is another Artist, Sam Harris who won the early show I think this even dated pre-star search who was white but his singing style was that of Patti LaBelle. His rendition of somewhere over the rainbow it was the same style as Patti LaBelle and in 2002 on the first anniversary of 911 he was also in the Broadway production of the producers
No falsetto in the beginning, that's her real voice, pure power! She's belting, and then goes into head voice, both freakish.
YES!
Nope!
Pam from Martin was not imitating Tina Turner.
You hit the nail right on the head.
It is Patti Labelle that Pam was mimicking.
And Gina was mimicking Whitney Houston.
And yes, Patti always wore her hair in a unique way back in the 80s
I thought gonna was imitating Anita baker
Her voice was heaven sent. ❤
Yoo I like yo review on this one. Patti was wearing that shit out 🎤 🔥
That's Al Green and Mavis Staples
Little Richard, Al Green and Mavis Staples
I believe she was nominated for an Emmy award for this performance
....she was ....
@@CuirPhotodotNet which year ??
@@rupenimudunavukuiii5909 ....it was the 80s....mid 80 to late 80s...
@@rupenimudunavukuiii5909 1986
The performers who joined her at the end were Little Richard, Mavis Staples, and Al Green.
Back in the day Patti always wore her hair in some crazy way. She is a legend and I love listening to her. ❤❤❤❤❤
🤣🤣🤣 your reaction when she did the spin is toooo funny! But it's the truth, she is the ultimate showwoman. She doesn't need dancers to be entertaining.
AMEN!!!
It’s Al Green, Mavis Staples, and Little Richard
This woman is the best Singer of ALL time, no other Voice is like Legendary Patti LaBelle. She is simply unbelievable.
I completely agree with you.
I totally agree 💯
AMEN AMEN AMEN 🎉🎉🎉
You're talking about the tear at the end.
So you missed the tears at 1:12 - 1:14?
You have to look real good to see it trickle down her cheek but it's definitely there
😂😂 definitely not a falsetto that was a high power belt basically she is belting...great reaction
And yes, Patti attended the Beulah Baptist church and yes, she was known for crying back then for many reasons
First - I am in love with it’s this young man. What a phenomenal gift he has. He took me there! I felt everything he was feeling. Second, that is straight up 100% Patti!!!!!
Gotta check the one where she rolled on the floor.
(Isn't It A Shame)-the song she was singing.
YES!!
I Luv young folks' reactions to some of our legends of all times.
IKR I was able to see Patti a few years ago in NYC. I flew all the way from the Philippines just to watch her and let me tell you it was an experience. I too wish that I was able to see live performances such as this but unfortunately I wasn’t born yet lol.
I was seeing Patti in the 80s. She was a total BEAST!! She has gotten older now but still has enough to give a good to great show at 79. Long live The GODMOTHER of SOUL!!
Can you react to live aid 1985 we are the world.
If you reacted to this performance you might as well react to another performance of hers along with Joe cocker from this same special- you are so beautiful.
She's wearing a red sequined dress with the same hairstyle.
❤ OMG your reaction to Ms. Patti is priceless! This is her iconic performance! It’s actually soprano! And she’s effortless with it, ain’t she!!!! You are officially my favorite react commentator now! Excellent!!!! 😊
@MAJ Patti didn't do much falsetto then as she does now. The first note wasnt falsetto.
5 cans of aqua net hair spray.
🙏🤘
You’re reactions are super funny! 😂 love Ms. Patti!
Glad you like them!
That’s Al Green, Mavis Staples and Little Richard. That’s not a wig it’s her hair they used a flat ironing and lot of hair spray to get that look.
Man, ain't she somethin'!!
The other guy is AL Green
Can you react to Patti LaBelle singing without a microphone?
And back in the 80s especially, she tore it up!
It's not fauceto, it's her singing in her full range. Fauceto is a head voice that one goes to because they can't hit whatever note in their normal full range. Patti is a first Soprano , therefore that note she could hit effortless.
I would say she probably had tears. She had lost her sister to cancer around this time. She says in her book that she was thinking about her sister that night at the Apollo celebration.
Norma Gordon Harris made the hair styles.
The thing on her head is actually a hat that she's wearing underneath her hair. Just want to clarify.
Thats right give the Queen her flowers 💐
Little Richard, Mavis staples and Al Greene
AL Green, Mavis Staples & Lil Richard
That was not a falsetto, probably a high chest note D5.
B5 at the end.
That's Little Richard, Mavis Staples (from The Staple Singers) and Al Greene. That is not a wig, that is hair pieces her real hair and a lot of hair spray.
It's not a wig.
It's tracks.
Her hair dresser, Norma Harris Gordon, sculptured all these unique hair designs.
She would aqua net the tracks, freeze them in a freezer, then sew them on Patti's head.
Patti says the hair pieces are now in a suit case put away.
This particular design is called,
Glamorize Mohawk.
Her own hair you can see blended into the tracks from the profile view.
...Patti just recently said Norma would use egg whites too along with the Aqua Net....
You would get more clicks if you didn’t talk so much
You and Kelontae Gavin can be brothers
I love our Queen Patti LaBelle but you make me think of my friend Eddie from New York I mean you guys sound just like you kind of look alike I miss him a lot.😢
He appreciates Patti LaBelle the night I became a fan. Motown returns to the Apollo.
@@MrBjorn6 we all together, that's when I became a fan also.
@@patgorden5002 Now I had heard lady Marmalade, before but that night I was completely blown away by her. My father was very impressed by George Michael especially singing love in need with Stevie Wonder 😍
@@MrBjorn6 I have heard of Lady Marmalade myself but I just didn't put the face with the song I was finding out that she had quite a few songs before I discover who she really is that night, I didn't know she song if only you knew until I started reading about her and finally saw her before that song later on in her career.
@@MrBjorn6 Back then we didn't have Google.lol
Little Richard
I never get through this without 🥲🎤 this would make a atheist start believing 😂.
I might need to do another Patti Labelle reaction lol I’m in need for some on stage crying
