  • Today, we are going to compare the Ring Floodlight Cam PRO to the Nest Cam with floodlight. We will compare their video and audio quality day and night and run our usual tests and see which one would be a good option for your home. We will also talk about some issues that I noticed on both cameras which hopefully Ring and Nest will be able to address in the near future.

  • @TOM-rj4fc
    @TOM-rj4fc Год назад +2

    This is a great comparison because it speaks to field of view really well, If you don't need the super wide field of view, the Nest clearly shows more detail at distance, if you need the wider field of view the trade off becomes 2 nest cameras or 1 Ring camera but with reduced detail. I feel like often people go for the widest field of view even if they don't need it, but then you give up detail in the videos. The real downside for consumers is with most cameras operating off subscriptions for services, once you are invested in a brand, it's painful to switch brands because you are either locked into paying 2 subscriptions or replacing all your cameras.

    Wow, as a Ring camera and alarm owner I think a 100% increase for the annual monitoring plan is ridiculous. Nest’s cool-off is also ridiculous and personally, I would not buy a camera without an alarm. Twice I’ve chased a couple of late-night car snoopers away from a neighbor’s car with my siren. All of the systems I’ve looked into have their issues. I haven’t found anything that will take me away from Ring, yet. Love your reviews!

    Having a separate Ring camera when I’m already heavily invested into Nest is not really an option for me. Despite its flaws, the Nest is still adequate for my needs and I don’t need to change or add to my plan price. It would be hopefully resolved in future updates. Good thing I’m patient on future purchases after my initial three cameras; lessons learned. Thanks for sharing your review.

    Soma applications may benefit from the high sensitivity of the Ring Pro. Installation at the second storey over a rear yard with minimal or no traffic would be ideal which is what I purchased mine for.

    It's Not that the Ring floodlight (Light) is sensitive now. The separate light settings, light motion zones/distance set on minimum distance has been disabled even though the light distance setting is still on the app. They changed it so now the Light is 100% operated and triggered by the separate cameras motion zones. If the cameras motion zones sense motion and start recording video it now triggers the light on no matter how far away the motion is. The camera motion zones settings and separate light settings used to work independently and now they don't. The floodlight camera and lights used to work perfect and now it's a light show every single night. Disgusted with the change to the floodlight I bought and so are the neighbors. Thank you for the video.

  • @pklemm1
    @pklemm1 2 года назад +3

    Someone spoke with ring support and said the light issue was better with the pro camera. They said a manager upgrade them to the camera free of charge since they were complaining about the lights going off on all motion. Supposedly the 3D motion was supposed to help. Doesn’t look like it. Idk if I can keep my ring floodlight camera with this new lighting software update. Looks like I’ll be looking for a new floodlight.

    Great test. I'd really like to say that the nest would be my purchase due to the good audio/video quality, but the cool off delay is troublesome. The inability to control the lights on the live view is inconvenient. I'm hopeful Nest can address this

    • @Tanquen
      @Tanquen Год назад +2

      Is this were it tells you there is an event and then you can not look at the recording for 5-10 minutes? Yes, that is bad. The Nest app was better. I was shocked to see that my new Nest flood light had less and worse features then all my other Nest cams. You can not use your new Nest cam with your Nest app, what the heck were they thinking? 10 days of recordings and if it misses anything there is no way to save the video, even if you manage to find it? What the heck man!?

    hey LF, any updates on the wyze cam floodlights? i plan on getting one this week , i’m not the biggest fan of the v3 but for $100 and an additional v3 added it will be the perfect floodlight cam to cover my driveway . i have a long driveway so the 2 camera will cover both ends . it’s $100 so you can’t beat that . the v3 is a good camera for $35 but i noticed a lot of defects ; for example the delayed notifications, you get them about 15-20 seconds too late , false alerts , bad AI, . i know it’s only $35 but they have some things they can fix that will make this the best budget friendly camera on the market

  • @abc123fhdi

    I don't notice any difference in my older Ring Floodlight Camera as far as sensitivity. Only if the car or person gets pretty close does it trigger. sometimes my neighbor might trigger it which isn't that big of a deal. It was like this before. I set it to trigger when objects are closer, not sure if I can make the zone even smaller than it is but it's fine for me. I think the pro floodlight has better sound quality than the older one.

    Did you set up the zone alert for the motion detection on the Nest Floodlight. In your video when you are toggling the motion detection on in the Google Home app at the very top is the motion alert field. You can customize the field you want to the motion to be decided l detected. I work for ADT and we have recently started selling the Google Nest Battery Doorbell. Setting a motion detection field really helps with the notifications

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 года назад

      I usually don’t set motion zones during my testing so that I can gauge the max detection distance it has etc…nests person detection is pretty spot on anyways so motion zoning is not that important unless you want to prevent notifications from people walking in your sidewalk and cars passing by in your street.

  • @Tanquen
    @Tanquen Год назад +3

    It's kinda cool how they don't include memory card options so you can, you know, watch what your camera (that you paid for, power and maintain, pay internet for) records. Why is it ok for them to insert themselves between you and your pictures/video and charge a bunch of money. If their AI detection and service was good enough people would pay for it. The new home app that you are forced to use is not as good as the Nest app and misses events. The MISSED events can not be saved, even if you dig through hours of video to find them. It should be illegal for them to block the use of other cloud or even home network data storage. What if Google decided you needed to pay them to access the picture you just took on your phone?

    I have issues with Nest Google cameras. With the present second generation of their cameras, you can't make tailored videos to the real vital events, you only have access to the event clips that the software decides, and you thus miss vital information. Also, you don't have a timeline of events which is vital information for law enforcement officers. Even though I currently have five cameras of Nest at my place, I am instead considering buying the Ring camera for my girlfriend's house.

    The ring camera has one extremely bad design flaw in that there is a plastic cover for the camera lens. And this can FALL OFF. It’s held in with only a tiny amount of glue it’s not even friction fit. If it falls off you won’t notice it until the lens gets damaged. It’s a really bad design flaw
