Just purchased one of these units, and then I found your tutorial. Yes, I know I did it backwards. I must say your tutorial is EXCELLENT! Very informative. Thank-you for a job very well done.
Thank you very much...means a ton to me to hear that my videos have helped others
@@1Cast1Fish Does the transducer really work through the plastic of the Kayak ??
video of 2017 still helping people from day to day! thank you!
Glad it helped! Thanks
It’s helping me rn!!😂😂
I’m saving up for my first kayak . Once I get it I’d love to get a fish finder installed . I love your setup
Good luck, and hope you get it soon
That's the exact kayak I have (mine is green, white, and black)!!! I'm also getting the same fish finder in the video!
Thats awesome, I love the Jackson Coosa HD's
I knew I could count on you to find out how to install my transducer. Thank you so much.
Definitely best way without a doubt.
1Cast 1Fish appreciate it man. I’m waiting on a couple things then the install will hopefully be the end of next week.
Very helpful - I really appreciate the simplicity.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you
Awesome vid man I didn't think a transducer would be able to shoot threw the hull🤙🏾
Yep if you leave no gaps it works great
Does it wotk through rubber too?
Just mounted mine going to test tomorrow and do some better fishing!!!!
Good Luck
Very helpful video. Do you not have to put water under the transducer in between the duct seal?
Nope...just make sure there is no air gaps
Just bought mines today & find your tutorial helpful 👍🔥
Thats awesome, congrats....any questions let me know
Very helpful video but do you need to add water between the duct seal and the transducer
If done correctly, you do not
Thats what i call a bad ass kayak! Color and everything 🔥🔥🔥
I love this Yak for sure...it has been absolutely amazing
How much was it if you dont mind sharing the price
It was like 1800, I got it a bit cheaper since it was 10% off....ended up like 1700 out the door with taxes
Need to purchase me one like that soon i hope they carry it here in texas
You won't regret it...it is a great fishing Kayak and well built
Thanks a lot my friend, you just made my day.
Glad to hear that! :)
Just got my striker 4 for kayaks and have been looking for ways to install it going to try your duck seal first alot cheeper than the other ways thanks for the great idea
Also will the 1 pound block do 2 kayaks or will I need 2 1pound blocks
Definitely is cheaper, plus its 100% protected. Just make sure to leave no air gaps. Press the duct seal into the hull firmly, then put the transducer into the duct seal and seat it firmly. Make like a 1/2 to 1" bed of duct seal
1 pound should be perfect for 2 kayaks. I split the 1lb in half for mine...perfect amount
1Cast 1Fish thanks for the advice
Be sure to hit the sub button, and let me know how it works out for you or any other questions
Sounds like you watch 1rod 1reel 😂 real creative name
LOL, I got it from my time in the military 1 Shot 1Kill slogan, but yeah I never even knew who 1Rod 1Reel was until someone mentioned it years ago :)
2024 and you saved me a huge headache thank you
Glad this helped
Awesome video man! Just bought my Striker 4 today!
Congrats on the new fish finder...you will be very happy with it...good luck on the water
Epic video! Do you think this could be used as a portable setup? I work as a spearfishing guide in very remote areas and am constantly switching boats. I’m looking for a sonar/fish finding setup I can use on small inflatable dinghies, fibre boats or pongas with a single outboard engine while being able to easily move it from boat to boat. Cheers and thanks for the help!
Yes, absolutely
Brilliant, trying to tomorrow.
Awesome...good luck
1Cast 1Fish worked great!
asd asd awesome
Awesome video. I have an older cruise ans want to do this same setup. How's that battery hold up and how do you charge it (I'm new to all this electronic stuff)
I have had the same battery for years now without issue...just plugs right into the wall. Battery I use in down in the description...(not trying to sound like a ad, but the Nocqua has done great for me)
wow... well that's amazing... Doesn't need to be on the outside. Would the be the same for the OldTown 120 Outback. is the OldTown too heavy?(thick).
Should be good to go, mines a Jackson Cossa HD
Great idea! Saved me so much time thank you dude!!!
Awesome...glad this helped
Just to make sure I understood correctly, the transducer works perfectly going through the plastic hull instead of underwater? This would make things so much easier.
Yes it will, if done properly
So the duct seal allows the transducer to work without touching the water? I want to try that in my wilderness 115. Does it mess up the quality of the signal? Thanks for the great video
Should be good to go, I have had no issues and neither have many others
What mount did you use? I have the ram 2 inch ball with the adapter but I'm not surr which one fits well with striker 4..great video by the way
Here is my whole set up ruclips.net/video/Vir8gm-meQ4/видео.html
Hey boss, great video! Quick question, do you have to have the transducer in water? Or wet?
Nope, mine is dry...no issues
You’re the man, thanks!
This is from Garmin manufacture .
A normal 500w or less transducer should not have any issues when running out of the water. A higher powered transducer, 1kw or larger, may have the potential of having issues as they normally use water to help cool them down when operating for long periods of time. Without the water, the transducer could burn out and have issues if left running for an extended period of time out of the water.
I have the Striker Plus ice bundle so my transducer is the cone. If I want to mount my striker on my kayak this summer, will I need the standard transducer??? I was thinking of mounting the transducer off the side with a Scotty arm. Would love to hear your input.
Honestly I would call Garmin on that one...I would think it may still work, but honestly I am not sure....don't want to steer you wrong
Have you had any problems with the digital depth read out blinking when mounting the transducer like this? It how's the sonar and all but the depth is blinking the same depth and not changing or staying constant.
Nope none at all, If you are having these issues it sounds like 2 possible problems. 1 could be that a pin in the connector is loose or not seating correctly. The other may be that you have some form of airgap between the transducer and the hull. Whatever you use to mount the transducer in the hull with it must have no air gaps between the transducer, duct seal, and the hull.
So you just need to stick it in there and no holes? Does it read just as well? I read something about wetting it down do you have to do that?
Watch this ruclips.net/video/Vir8gm-meQ4/видео.html and no water required. On high powered transducers yes they must be wet for cooling...this is not that high powered so no issues.
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful as I mounting the Striker 4 in a very similar way on my Kayak. I have run into one issue with the sonar...it seems to read great at depths over 9' but pretty poorly in depths less than 9'. Any idea why or hacks to fix that?
Jay Arnold what is your sensitivity set to?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I haven't changed the sensitivity so it should be at whatever the factory default is.
Jay Arnold check out my video on the Striker 4 sonar @ 1:53 or so I discuss the gain...which is how sensitive and amplified the returns are ...check this number out and turn it down a bit in shallow water. Let me know if this helps
Dope setup man.
Yeah it works great, was cheap, and is pretty versatile
Awesome video. I've been wanting to mount one in my yak but was not a fan of the idea of drilling into it. Quick question, does the duct seal harden and keep the transducer there or does it stay like a putty?
Great question...This is the best part about the duct seal...it stays pliable like putty. I am always taking mine out of the kayak and swapping it into other yaks and even a small boat. Now it will get stiff if left in freezing temps.
@@1Cast1Fish nice. That's perfect. Thank you for the info. I look forqard to installing mine and seeing more of your videos.
@@juliorivera27 awesome man
How do you know which track fits with your fish finder? Ram mount?
These were for the standard sized rails that are pretty normal on kayaks. I used 1" size for my Ram Mount
Mantap😊👏👏👏✌👍
Thanks
it looks like that would get in the way of your normal paddling stoke? I have one, but I have yet to find a good place for it. I'm trying to mount mine inside my center hatch. That will probably have its own issues?
This was on a Jackson Coosa HD, so it was far enough forward not to cause a issue. Mounting can be tricky though and definitely your paddle stroke is something to think about...along with ease of acess to change settings.
@@1Cast1Fish roger that. Thanks for the advice.
I just bought everything to do this install! Thanks for the video. Quick question, is the water temp reading still accurate with this install?
No it will not be
Nice set up! How do you like the striker so far?
Love it so far, wish I had the Plus model, but hope to upgrade this summer.
1Cast 1Fish you mean the striker plus?
Yes the Striker Plus 4
I also just made a video comparing the 3 Striker 4 models not to long ago.
1Cast 1Fish what’s the difference between them?
Hey hammer cant really tell are you mounting the transducer right in the middle of hull ? So this way giving you great readings ? Thanks
Yes it is in the middle and level...it needs to be level for the best images
Which way do you face the transducer? The illustration in the instructions show it mounted on a trolling motor in a backward L position while your vid shows it in a forward L..thanks for all the info..
I get this question every now and then...but since I use it in my kayak, I mount it so that the cable can be out of the way from tangles...that is why it is "backwards" , Also think of a transducer mounted on the trolling motor, when fishing how often is the trolling motor facing directly forward?...It's not and the images are still great without issue. Hope this clears it up a bit.
@@1Cast1Fish thanks!.
So that seal will hold it in place? It stays soft or dries hard?
It gets a bit hard in the winter and a bit soft in the summer, but no issues or extremes. Easy to remove and reinstall any season so far.
You can used a velcro patches work good too 👍
Could you put it inside of a livewell? Especially if you aren’t using it?
I would say No, since most livewells are insulated or sit above the bottom of the hull...all of these issues will create an air gap which will cause the transducer to not read.
Great video...just got a Garmin Striker 4 for my SG130....what size Nocqua battery did you get? How long does it last typically?
I use the 10 Ah Battery....I did a video on it and it lasted about 36 hours of continuous run. I use mine a few outings then recharge normally, but I use it for my fish finder and a power supply for my GoPro as well.
How does it effect your water temp readings? Did you do comparisons? This could be a deal breaker for me but I like the idea.
Monte Graham water temp reading is not accurate
nice. good idea. thank you for ur show... ACE
Thanks for watching!
I am a free diving spear-fisher instead of a fishing, I am going to use your method to rig my kayak and use it at sea, would you think that is sufficient? thank you!
Don't see why not, should work just fine IMO
Thanks a lot easy and very effective
Happy to help...thanks
The transducer will work right through the kayak?
@@AdamJones-e3r if mounted correctly…yrs
was there an issue with it not being directly in the water? Seeing as this was a few years ago you might have other ideas or its working great still.
Still works great ...best way for sure
@@1Cast1Fish roger that, thank you for the response! Ill be installing on a H10 from bass pro
@@chrisstewart4932 Awesome...any questions just ask
I wish I saw this last summer! What a great hack! I never would have thought of duct seal. Thanks! #subbed
Eric Bullock Thanks glad you enjoyed...give it a try
So the transducer shoots through the duck seal and the kayak hull? Does this inhibit performance of the unit at all vs mounting it outside the hull?
If done right...no issues at all
I'm slowly learning about fish finders...so the transducer does not have to be in the water??
With this install method it does not...just no air gaps between it and the water.
I have a Stryker4 also and was looking to mounting tips. Does the transducer work inside or on the kayak. I thought that it has to be in the water. How accurate is it with this technique? Thanks for the Great Video!
The only thing that will not work correctly is the water temp. Also no side imaging (if you have that)
Are you able to take the transducer out and put it back in? I want to take it out to ice fish in the winter.
Yes, I take mine out and reinstall it all the time without issue
Do you know If you can do this with other garmin units? Can you do this with any transducer?
Any transducer will work, but no side imaging and down imaging can be a bit iffy sometimes.
Very nice! I just got this same fish finder. Ya like it?
Oh yeah...love it for my kayak...I have a few good video son the features of it and how to use them. Plus a new upload on the frequency settings will be coming this week.
Awesome! I will check the others out. Thanks!
So the transducer doesn't have to be attached in the water? Thanks
In many cases with proper setup, no it does not
Looking to outfit my inflatable Sea Eagle 385 FTA with a fish finder like this. The transducer would lay under the inflatable rubber deck, right on top of the rubber hull. Do you think there would be any transmission issues with rubber? Great video!
I do think you will have issues if I understand you right. The issue is that you can not have any gap of air between the transducer and the water...and the tubes are full of air. Plus transmission get worse the thicker the material you have to shoot through.
Is it okay if the transducer is out of the water? Please help, and thank you in advance.
No problem at all as long as there are no air gaps, and the transducer is still below the water line.
This is very interesting. I want to add a FF to. my OT Predator and I am considering the Garmin Striker 4cv or maybe going for a bigger 7cv. I kinda like the compact nature of the 4, mounting it up close to my seat. Not sure if a bigger screen further along or even closer gives you a better reading. I wonder will the clear view functionality work through the duct seal? and what about the GPS functionality? thats important. Great idea and I may well alter direction and follow you. I was going to insert a section of plumbing pipe down the scupper hole with the TD on the end and feed back to the FF. The Predator has a recess space available. But with this in-hull installation, you get to keep the TD out of harms way and its kinda neat. In theory I suppose the only loss is water temp accuracy, but you got to wonder if you loose clarity of sonar return because you are going through the denser medium of Duct Seal/hull. Very interesting video, thanks for posting.
No issues with the down imaging on my Vivid mounted this way
@@1Cast1Fish Good to know. I picked up a hardly used Garmin 5dv for a great price and a 3D computer printed clamp to fit the TD through the scupper in the space below the hole, so I will go with the direct connection method. I have made notes on what you showed us here for future reference in case I ever want to do an in hull install. Thanks again.
Will the transducer still read water temperatures when mounted inside like that?
No it will not, the temp you see will be the temp inside your hull
How well does your transducer work being in hull?
No issues, except you will not have water temp readings.
Wow. I did not know you could install a transducer inside. I am just getting into kayak fishing so I bought an inexpensive kayak. A BKC pk13 with the trolling motor for less than $1500 delivered. Only problem is not place underneath for a transducer like the more expensive. I really don’t want a hang over the edge kind of
I use in hull mounting on mine without issue. It is extremely easy and keeps the transducer safe.
Thank you. That’s my choice as the kayak I have order doe not have a through hull place for a transducer
Does putting the transducer on the plastic at all interfere with it?
No issues to report
will that be able to scan through an aluminium tinnie?
You would have to test it, really depends on the construction. Aluminum can be tricky with this type of install
Would this work with a sit on top or is it too high above the waterline?
All you have to do is ensure the transducer is mounted below the water line within the kayak
Will this also work with the ice transducer??
Never tried the ice transducer in hull, so I can not say100%
Readings accurate like this? What about temp readings
Works great, temp is the only reading that will not be accurate
will this work on fiberglass skiff? trying to figure the easiest way to mount transducer on rental skiff, any suggestions?
Yes it will the sonar might not be 100%, but pretty darn close. This is how I have my in hull transducer mounted in my fiberglass bass boat without issue. Just make sure its level and no air gaps
hello friend, sorry for my comment but this is something new for me, it is not necessary that the transducer is directly in the water? the transducer readings are the same if it is inside the kayak?? Thank you
This transducer will work fine as long as there is no air gap. The only reading that will not work is Temp
@@1Cast1Fish Thank you friend, my kayak (Hobie Pro Angler) has a place where the water enters from the bottom so I hope it is enough for you to give me the water temperature levels, which is special to install the transducers only that it is more for big screen translator so I installed it there with what you recommend, I hope it works well 😀, sorry if my writing is not good but I speak little English
Hope it works well for you, good luck
When you push the transducer down in the putty does it have to be pushed right down to the kayak or is it okay if theres putty in between the transducer and the kayak. Also if it doesn't work right is it hard to get that stuff off the transducer? Thanks for the help.
Yes you want the putty to fill the gap between the transducer and the bottom of the yak...any air gap between them with ruin your image. Just mold the putty into the bottom of the yak, and press the transducer right into it. If it did not work, you probably have air somewhere ....and yes it is super easy to pull up and off and try again.
The transducer can also read through the duct seal?
Yes
Very nice! Looking forward seeing how it works on the water, tight lines...
Glad you enjoyed...good luck on the water to you as well.
Will any transducer work through the hull
In general yes...but I would only use low powered transducers , since higher power transducers will create more heat and then you could have issues. Also depending on boat material and thickness they may or may not work.
Great video, I purchased a Ascend 10t last year June and over the winter I purchased the Garmin Sea Striker 4 but haven't installed it yet. I'm definitely going to try and install it now. Thanks again. Oh sorry how much duct seal do you use?
Awesome on the new Yak...get that thing mounted ASAP....you will love it. I just bought a brick of the duct seal and cut it in half.
1Cast 1Fish thank you sir for your help, I'll keep you posted.
Eric Madbusop Champion awesome...let me know if u have any issues...be sure to hit the sub button.
Just found your video, thanks for the tutorial. Quick question… is the transducer you are using the original it came with or did you have to buy a different transducer for thru hull/ in hull use…
Original
@@1Cast1Fish thank you for the quick reply. I was worried that I would have to buy a different transducer so it can sonar thru my kayak correctly. But now I know I don’t need to.
It reads fine through the duck seal and boat bottom?
Yep...no issues as long as there is no gap between anything
Got it. Thank you again.
No problem...any issues or questions feel free to ask
@@1Cast1Fish Thank you and I will take advantage of your generous wisdom. I had assumed that the pointy end of the transducer would face toward the bow though that shape may be just an aerodynamic design for placing in a scupper on the outside bottom of the boat. I noticed that you placed the flat end of the transducer toward the bow as it doesn't make any difference which way it faces? Also, I write a weekly sportsman's article for our Melbourne Times (Arkansas) and they want me to write a review of all the modifications and on the water results. I will be adding the name of your RUclips channel if that's ok? I'll also be making a RUclips video of my mods and will credit and link your channel.
Hi master , can I use Putty or Clay to replace dual seal ? We can’t get dual seal in Australia .
I have never tried it, but the principle should be the same
@@1Cast1Fish Thanks
Great job 👍 old lady angler sent me this link. Love the video. Thank you for the details.
Thank you to you both...plenty more fish finder videos here
Would the duck seal work inside of a seadoo spark haul??
Never tried it, but would assume it should with no issues
I have done a shoot through the hull with another depth finder with bad luck, having to pull the glue off every couple of years. will the Duck seal hold? I haul my yak bottom side up on the top of my Xterra.
You have to ensure there is no gaps for it to work 100%, and yes the duct seal will be much better than glue...and easier to move
1Cast 1Fish Thanks, I may give this a try. Should I support the duck seal with anything?
Nope...just press everything together real good...it’s pretty sticky
So, you don’t have to put the transducer on the outside? You can just put in the well?
That is correct
@@1Cast1Fish assuming there’s no interference? Sorry I only watched this one and another video of you talking about it so idk if you’ve talked about the cons.
No real cons, just have to ensure proper mounting and no air gap...this should help

What did you use to mount the graph on the tracks???
The 1" ball mount and a RAM Mount....all linked in the description
Won't that mess with the sonar ping? You will have the duct seal, plus the plastic from the kayak? I don't know anything about these things... just asking?
These sonars use sound waves...so as long as there is no air gap between the hull and seal and the seal and transducer then the waves will go out and return without issue....any gap with air as a buffer and it will not work.
@@1Cast1Fish Oh, Okay, great. Some other guys said with the duct seal they were having issues with air bubbles... have you ever had that happen to you? Thanks
@@OfficeofthePacific I have not...but I was very careful to ensure no bubbles. I kept the duct seal block almost whole and pressed everything together to keep air out. I get that question alot...probably should do a video on it at some point.

With the thru-hull transducer installation, have you noticed any effect on water temp accuracy? Thanks for the great videos. 👍🏻
The water temp will not function correctly with this install option

You can buy a digital fish tank aquarium thermometer for less than $10 on Amazon. They have about a 3ft cord. Take it on the kayak or bank fishing. Cheap and easy.
how long will a 4,4 ah battery last while using the garmin striker 4?
My 10 ah lasts a few days, so I would guess at least a day or 2 on the water.
Is there no need for putting water in between the transducer and the hull?
Not for these low powered transducers...no issues
I want to mount a Garmin Striker Plus 4 to the front of my Heritage Redfish 12 Angler Kayak. The Mount will be on a diagonal slope just below where my Scotty Rod Holder is located.
Is the Garmin Striker Plus 4 adjustable up and down?
How much can you adjust it up and down?
What Scotty or Ram Mount would you suggest I use?
It has a lot of adjustment...I would recommend the one I linked in the description...it will give you even more adjustment...just don't forget the additional 1" ball mount you will need as well if mounting it to a rail...it is also linked in the description. Hope this helps and other questions let me know.
Great video! Any update on how well the transducer works from inside the hull?
It's been great with no issues...I have mounted it and removed it probably 10 times since this video and still great.
Add a video of how it looks on the Garmin
Yeah how would that work through the hull? Won't it dampen some of the pings?
Hey where did you get the attachment to go on the rail of your kayak?

Hi, i used plumbers putty, we dont have duct seal in Australia, but its not reading anything. Just says it’s always a meter deep at all times. Any ideas?
Make sure there is no air gap...this is common when a gap is present...the transducer can read through solids, but not air.
What type of boat or kayak?
I bought the Ram light duty mount you posted but the mount holes do not match up with the base of the garmin striker 4? How did you attach that mount to your striker 4?
Weird....should fit without issue. Have you tried moving the plastic base around...there are a lot of holes on the mount, and you gotta get it just right with the right holes/
how is the transducer working through the plastic?
Sound waves, there just can not be an air gap
