This quest...I swear, it broke my heart, I did not expect it to be way too centered toward discrimination and racism....well atleast the ending is heart warming....

Honestly, the decision to not include trial combat for Neuvilette, or even any combat for that matter, was such a great one.
It just reinforced the theme of the entire quest. Up to now Neuvilette was always trapped by the past, believing that he was an outsider and that there was always some underlying scheming being done against him or those he represents.
But there was no scheme, no conflict to be had. Just by virtue of diligently carrying out his duties for all those centuries, he has already cemented himself as an irreplaceable part of Fontaine and gained many people willing to support him without being told.
And also during the trial you can feel the Neuvillette broken heart when he said “ Vautrin, My friend”
Hits harder when you realize Vautrin might've been one of the only friends Neuvillette had, and although it was an act, Neuvillette must've felt so lonely for centuries when he thought Vautrin hated him

This has got be my favorite story quest ever now. Neuvillette's miserable tone of voice when giving out Vautrin's sentence broke my heart; this story quest making me feel unbelievable amounts of depression.

What a sweet story and it has a great lesson and this is the first story quest that we didn’t use the character to fight a enemy.

Nuevillette is the water dragon, it rains when the water dragon is sad thus the sky cries when he cries.
Love the dynamic between Neuvillette and Wriothesley. Both run different parts of Fontaine, both have extremely long names, but have completely different ways to run things around.
This was a lovely mission and having a sincere voiceline from the traveler made it even better but it actually surprised me. I’m glad they really do seem to be letting them really talk a bit more often.
I'm trying to remember all 5 stars characters story quest since launched, but I think this may be the first one that we don't get a sneak peak of a 5 stars character (Neuvillette) fight using his character as part of the trial inside the character story quest. Just so people aren't confused what I'm saying, not the character trial under "Test Run," but the fighting you get to do with the involving character in their story quest. Good character story quest though.
iirc Albedo's SQ also has no character trial and Yoimiya's SQ2 has no combat
3:50 hearing this… it broke my heart. I felt awful for Carole… this… I’ve never expected Genshin to cover the topic of discrimination or racism- but I’m glad they covered it.
They were slowing building to it with the history of Lawrence Clan with Eula and slavery, Itto as an Oni being discriminated against and desert people from Sumeru not being treated equally to people in the forest area

A bit of an easter egg: if you do Wriothesley's quest first THEN neuvillette's, the beret society is mentioned by the other society members when you go talk to the leader with the "medal of honor."
I found this out by accident when i decided to wait to do the archon quest then wriothesley came out. After doing the archon quest i did Wriothesley's first the Neuvi's.

The real issue is that the fact that they can see 'evidence' left by the criminals, the criminals were afraid of getting arrested. If we were in real life, the same would have happened because of those a hole

Seeing the past of 400 years ago broke my heart, seeing the people of Fontaine now protecting the Melusines with no hesitations really touched my heart

In my eyes, the people of Fontaine were manipulated by the Old Regime. But once Vautrin dealt with the remaining members, the people of Fontaine realized what happened and sees new possibilities with Neuvillette's title now secured. They even tried to bail Vautrin out during the trial.
although it takes 400~500 years for Human to change and accept the Melusines, but at least they change in the end, they stand up for them 😭
I think a large part of what caused the racism was because the sheer destruction caused by Elynas was still relatively fresh in everyone's mind, and the Melusines were essentially Elynas' legacy.
Fast forward several centuries, and I think it was only natural the Melusines would be accepted once everyone saw how helpful they were, and Elynas faded from everyone's minds.

Hearing of the threat letter sent to a Melusine brought back a past experience from Neuvillette that happened when he and the Melusine first stepped foot on Fontaine when he and the Melusine were outsiders. Back then, it was when he first became Chief Justice and changed the previous justice system of Fontaine incorporating Melusine's eye sight to improving efficiency of solving cases. This however at the time lead to racial discrimination and falsehoods against the Melusine which extended to Neuvillette whom made enemies of previous powerful factions who sought to dismantle him to the point where they targeted the Melusine and exploited the people's mistrust of them for their gain. It eventually got to the point where Neuvillette's close friend Carole took her own life due to a violent riot leading to his friend Vautrin taking revenge on Carole by killing the people responsible for her suicide believing he failed to protect her from the horrors that is the real world. Neuvillette much to his dismay sent his friend to prison. That moment was a tragedy that had lived on in Neuvillette for centuries and he feared as if that tragedy is about to repeat itself. That fear of course was unfounded as much had changed since then where the people of Fontaine has high regards for Neuvillette and that includes deep compassion and friendship towards the Melusines who have since then became an integral part of Fontaine's protection system. Not only that, Neuvillette got way more help than he ever expected to have to find the person responsible for said letter. The person responsible was just a former criminal involved in a smuggling case that was just angry at the Melusine who took his possessions and has no clue of his clients either.
Neuvillette was worried about the surfacing of a secret organization that is plotting against him like one from 400 years ago only for Wriothesley to straight up tell him his worry is beyond unwarranted as much has changed since then that he had not noticed and his friend Vautrin who supposedly resented him when he was charged guilty for his actions was only putting on a show for the audience to send them a message to elevate Neuvillette and later worked on reforming prisoners during his time as an inmate. As Neuvillette contemplates on all that had transpired under the rain of his own making, he goes through the passage of time seeing the feelings of everyone he has met leading to Carole and Vautrin speaking of bright days ahead as if saying to him he can be relieved that their dream had long came true and he will continue moving ahead.
BTW, there was a reply on Neuvillette's note from Furina whom replies to him with something that is much like something the previous Archon had told him though Neuvillette having known what Furina is like just can't seem to wrap his head around the brief moments of wisdom she can have.
istg his story quest was literally better then both act 3 and most of act 4 of the archon quest

@nikoskonstantinidis4069 As much as I empathise with Vautrin, his trial was unfortunately a pivotal point in Fontaine's history.
If Neuvillete had passed a light sentence to Vautrin, then he would prove himself corruptible and show to the humans that he is willing to bend the law to suit his agenda. The supporters of the dead hardliners would use the judgement as pretext that Neuvillete was not an impartial judge and was unworthy of the position of Chief Justice. Instead, they could easily say that Neuvillete was abusing his powers. Then Melusine and human relations would be irreparably damaged.
In addition, it might encourage even more feats of vigilante justice among Fontainians, which is not ideal for an orderly society.
As much as Vautrin may have won in the court of public opinion, the court of law is not the court of public opinion. Neuvillete had to do his job as Chief Justice and pass judgement impartially on his friend, or worse could have come.

@paulyoung7551 not to mention, Vautrin never held any grudge against Neuvillette when sentenced guilty. He knew what was coming and needed to act the part to make sure his example can heavily influence to Fontainians that Neuvillette will stick to the law and never bend it.

What is crazy about this quest is that this is the only quest we're it does not involve any combat just straight to the dialogues and cutscenes
Did this quest AFTER doing wriothesley's story quest. Interviewing the people from the Mutual aid network actually has different dialogues and was being compared to the beret society.
That cutscene at the ending is crazy, my tears unexpectedly running down by themselves T_T

I can't click on anything, I can't move, the story stops going and I can't even leave the quest. I tried everything and nothings going on, it just stopped my whole genshin, what do I do??

I never usually comment nor watch about Story Quest. But this one, while like a Visual Novel, hits way too real given the current in real life events that sometimes I want to stop playing all together.
It doesn't need to show Neuvilette's Gameplay, but they also show he is better than what he was back then. That cutscene showed he did changed not only Fontaine, but also himself. He took action, not only as a Iudex, but also dispel some doubts about him and the Oratrice as well. He didn't falter during the trial, he proved people his Conviction.

Is perhaps Elynas the previous Hydro dragon and Neuvilette's mother? Melusines are also her creations and it could also be her saying the line at the end.
Elynas is a separate being (do the Ancient Colors WQ, Elynas' consciousness will appear and speaks to the traveler and explain his origin).
the woman's voice in the end is actually Furina's.
Elynas was a dragon created by Gold, similar to Durin. I believed that was explained in the melusine's world quest. Also, I believe Elynas was actually a male tho. Vaguely recalled it being said somewhere that he was the only male melusine, thus father of all melusines. And yeah, the voice at the end is actually Furina's, not his.
